I'm sorry but my family and I are just devistated. I just received a letter from my cousin today and he's been transferred to Wasco from CSP-Solano. In the letter he writes, "when I thought I got away from going out of state they came and got me. I'm here in Wasco down south. They made a spot simply for the people out of state in Wasco here (like a reception center). Supposively we leave in another week or so. There's about 40 of us that were moved from Solano. Out of the 40 of us they are only sending 2 people to Arizona and the rest of us to Oaklahoma."
We can't believe they would send my cousin out of state because he only has 8 months left until he comes home. Can someone please answer some questions we have.
1. Can he take any of his property with him out of state?
2. How do we apply to visit him out of state?
3. What can we send to him out of state?
Any other information that you think would be useful is very much appreciated. Sorry but this news has just devistated us all. :(

I'm so sorry to hear about yourself and family being so devistated. I found a link with some phone numbers to facilities in other states maybe that will help if you call one of them.

I remember reading some time ago that Moderator Jonathan was starting a thread or something like that on out of state transfers if I'm not mistaken.

California inmates being housed out of state can have quarterly packages and Canteen, so you will be able to place money on his books and send him packages. You'll have to find out which facility he is going to and then apply to them for visiting approval.
It's amazing that they are sending someone who is 8 months to the gate to an out of state facility. I'm sorry you are all so upset and hope the next 8 months go by quickly for you.

Thank you both for your help. Yes this is devistating for us all but we will definitely be on the first flight out as soon as he calls us. I'm with ya (aliferzwife) I can't believe they'd waste their time and money on sending someone who only has 8 months left.

I really do feel badly for you and your family AND for your cousin. The bright side is that most guys say the out of state facilities are much better than our prisons, so I guess you can at least know he will be comfortable and probably happier generally there.
Still sucks though. :(

My question is, Is why are they sending inmates from Cali out of state? I thought it was an option....My husband has 7 yrs left on his term and we are hoping and praying this doesnt happen. He gets formally sentenced on The 8th of MAY

Everything I have heard about out of state transfers has been positive. They are treated far better and have better digs. Try not to be too upset. 8 months will fly by. However it makes NO sense in any way to move someone with such a short time. Hang in there. Do they know which 2 are going to Arizona. It would make much more sense for him to go to Arizona just because of the short time.

:new: :new: Hello everyone, just wanted to come by and give you all an update. My cousin was sent out of state last weekend and arrived in Arizona last Friday. He called me as soon as he got there and again yesterday. As of yesterday he still has not received his personal property. He says the food there is better than in the CA prisons. He can also use the phone whenever he wants for up to 30 minutes per call. He says that it is very very hot out there.
Overall, I just hope these next 8 months fly by so he can come back home. We miss him dearly! :(

Hi Bob-bi,
I don't think you'll have to re-apply for visits, I know that the approved list has followed my man. Once he's settled, just have him check with his counselor to make sure his list is up to date.
My husband was sent out of state to Mississippi and from what I've heard, there are inmates that have transferred with as little as six months of time left to do. It doesn't make any sense.
