I heard in Hawaii, ex-cons are protected class--is that true? JJT 04-26-2008, 05:53 PM Wow. That would be interesting if it were true. I wonder how one would find out? My gut feeling is that most employers stick to a basic standard no matter where they are located, and several are controlled by governmental standards. I also think there would be a flood of ex-cons moving to Hawaii if it were true. JJT MsAloha1018 12-08-2008, 12:32 AM Not true, especially if a job has a policy that states that for whatever reasons they will not hire people with certain criminal backgrounds. Where I work at, as a part of the hiring process they do background checks as part of the pre-hire screening. If someone's background has a conviction for whatever crimes that they have on what I like to call their "hot list", that person will not be hired. I even seen that places like Best Buy, Consoldated Theaters, even restaurants will do not only criminal background checks but will also request drug screening as part of the conditions for hire. I know that the military also does their own security checks. It happened to someone who I know who was working through another company. Tried to get hired in fulltime on their own and the military sent them a letter saying that due to a background check their access to the military base was denied. No access to the base, no getting in to work. |
