Bullies Girl 04-16-2008, 04:12 PM I saw all the forums on the different ca state prison but not anything on CRC in Norco does anyone no anything about that prison??? Gryphon 04-16-2008, 04:57 PM CRC 101: CRC is the State prison run drug rehab. Although it looks like a prison, smells like a prison, and tastes like a prison, it is not a prison. It is a program. Technically, it is a civil and not a criminal commitment. (This means that going to CRC doesn't add a 1 year prior prison term enhancement if the inamte is later sent to state prison on a different crime.) If a sentenced defendant is deemed to be an addict or in danger of becoming an addict (by stipulation or medical finding) and the defendant is otherwise qualified, a sentencing judge can send an inmate to CRC instead of a prison term. Participants are there for around 12 mos. (never less than 10 mos. as far as I can tell.) Participants stay until they are deemed done, so it can sometimes be longer than 12 mos. Conduct credits doen't apply to CRC. To get in, the sentence can't be over 6 years and the participant can't have admitted a strike enhancement or be on parole. Violent offenders get excluded. Both the court and CRC have to decide that the rap sheet and/or crime doesn't demonstrate "excessive criminality". If the judge says CRC, but CRC declines on the basis of excessive criminality or any other exclusion, then teh inmate is excluded. The inmate gets stuck in CRC for around 120 days before they get shipped back to be sentenced to prison (the term has already been selected when the inamte was sentenced). The defendant only gets day for day credit for the time at CRC (no conduct credit.) The up sides of CRC include it's a half-baked drug rehab, participants stay out of trouble so they aren't there longer than around a year, there is little or no gang stuff going on, and there are no violent offenders. Depending on the sentence, a year is a heck of a lot less time than up to 3 actual years (less county credits) had they gone to prison; so participants might be on teh street much sooner depending on their sentence. Down sides are plentiful. CRC parole can last for up to 6 years, and is much stricter than regular parole. Any violations cause teh participant to re-do teh program all over again. CRC time is day-for-day (no conduct credits) if eventually a participant is excluded because of a failure to comply. The effect is that a participant can sometimes serve a sentence almost day-for-day. This results in a much longer time off the street than what a prison sentence would have been if the participant had gone to prison instead of CRC. As a program, it is bad news when compared most "street" rehabs. (It figures. The government treats addicts just about as effectively as it raises children.) Addicts tend to come out in about the same condition as they went in (although they'll have a running start on sobriety, they've done little to actually address the reason for the addiction.) California Sunshine 04-16-2008, 08:14 PM Hi there here are two threads relating to Norco http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202919 http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=301050 exployer 04-18-2008, 09:00 AM Bullies Girl, I think that some of this information is old and outdated. There are no women. There are some incarcerated that don't have a problem with drugs. Not everyone is in SAP. And....we do have a thread for CRC. It is a sticky at the top of the page. For information relating to CRC, go there. sozeee 04-24-2008, 10:39 AM Not everyone there is for a drug program. The majority are but not everyone. My son was there for 3 years and not in the drug program. It is an ugly old building, but I was not in fear for his life as all are level 2 inmates. Some violence but not on the scale of some of the other prisons. He was housed in a dorm situation - about 100 inmates to a block. They did have lock downs and same as other prisons but not as often. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter. The schedule to visit is usually twice a month, depending on the last 2 digits of his CDC number. The web site is ok but to call is a nightmare. After 3 years, I have had the phone answered exactly one time. The dress code seems to change weekly as I'm sure others do also. I found wearing black worked about the best. No gray, no green, no blue jean stuff as that is what the guys wear. $50 in dollars and change and 10 pics are allowed at visit. The visiting room is ok. Never have had a problem there. For the most part, the CO's weren't too bad in the 3 years we went up there. If you plan on spending the night, I would suggest staying in Corona as the 2 inns in Norco suck. We stayed at Ames East most of the time if needed. Bout $98 a night. Let me know if you have any other questions I might be able to answer. He just got out yesterday so things are pretty fresh in my mind. cybrlid1 04-27-2008, 12:36 AM Congrat sozee  Hope all goes well with your loved one. My fiance will be tranferring to CRC from Pleasant Valley. You mentioned about visiting twice a month according to his CDC#.
