Hello im new to the website and forum...its so wonderful to have a place like this to post and meet people who are going through the same thing that you are. But my b/f is currently at Staton; he previously was at Kilby. I haven't seen him for a while now though b/c i moved to atlanta, ga and I don't drive. I wanted to know how far Elmore was from Birmingham and/or Montgomery. I used to stay in B'ham but dont know the state too well. Also any buses or hotels that could be beneficial? Also does anyone know the closest Greyhound bus line thats near Elmore? And if anyone is traveling soon please get in contact with me I am willing to pay to get a ride down there to Elmore.

I doubt if you can get a bus. It is about 20 miles from Montgomery, 2 1/2 hours from Atlanta not too hard to find. I live in Virginia, so I don't go very often, 4 or so times a year.

i am new to this site. i am also new to the idea of my husband being in prison. we have a 2yr old son and we miss him very much. don't know any of the rules and reguations of staton. hoping that everything will be ok when me and my son go to visit. trying to find out visitation times and all that. i dont think it will be a good idea to bring our son every visit. its not like prisons have somewhere for your child to play. or do they? i need some info. anything is helpful.

There are usually a good number of children there. Visitation is in a smallish gathering room with chairs in rows. You can also sit outside on picnic benches at tables. Check out my dress code suggestions. They can be strict. Last time they told me not to wear sandles again. (Leather ones with heels, I teach high school English and wear them to work.)I wrote down everything I could think of at the top of the Staton page. If you have any questions, I will try to answer if I can.
