Well, just when I thought they were doing ok giving Frank his Antidepressant, Celexa, I get a letter that says they will be stopping the med on the 15th! It is bad enough that he is in there, but now they are taking away something he needs. Who makes these decisions? Do the inmates see a doctor before this happens? He has been fighting depression long before all this stuff started and this cannot be a good thing!! What can he/I do?

Yes, they do have a doctor assigned to them. My husbands doctor does anything he asks, even if it's not the best thing for him. David decided he wanted off his celexa too, so they took him off. Most of these doctors couldn't even put a face with a name if they had to. They really suck!!

The thing is though is that Frank doesn't want to be taken off Celexa. He knows that it helps him alot. When he went into County jail in July they really screwed around with it and he had a tough time. He lost it with me on the phone. I could tell after he started taking it regularly again. I guess I will see about our paharmacy transferring both drugs down there.

See if he can talk to his counselor about this, his counselor should be able to help him, and then they can talk to the Dr. and see what they say. I have never heard of such a thing no matter what prisoners have rights. Let me see if I can find some info in this for you. Your state is Minnesota, I will look for you. Give me a couple of days.

i'm not all too familiar with the healthcare system in the DOC, but from what i've seen so far, i'm not too overly impressed. i work as a paramedic for a few years now and, even though that definately does not make me a doctor, i've learned a thing or 2. crushing chest pain is bad, passing out is bad, a heartrate of 30 or so is bad. so how come my hunny, who has all these problems, has to deal with an MD whose specialty is obstetrics? i'm not sure, but i don't think an obstetritian is really necessary in a mens prison. but i'm not the professional! very frustrating.

kmeg,
Did the letter state why they would be taking him off this medication? Taking someone off their antidepressant medication can sometimes cause some serious side effects. If I was you I would definitely try to get in touch with his counselor.

I hear you 100%. He called today and said that he has to kite (sp?) the psych doctor for an appointment. Lord knows how long that could take! Meanwhile tomorrow is his last day of celexa:mad: . He also said that the doc told him that Naprosyn was a pain killer - i could have sworn that ot was an anti-inflamitory. They have given him that and Flexaril now prn. What a load of BS. No luck so far with his meds. I have to take our son in to the doc soon, so I will ask him to contact the CRC to see if that helps too. onward CHARGE. Before all this I would kind of sit back and take the bs from people. Now I just get pissed. :argh

Tonygirl-
It was stated in a letter from Frank (hubby). They have given him no specific reason. When he went into county he took in a 60+ day supply of celexa. Do you think they will send that back-hahaha. By that he should of had enough till mid sept. So its not that the script ran out. He said he wasn't aware that he had a counselor.
Kvinct,
forgot to add I also work in EMS. I am a volunteer EMT for our towns service
