I had a horrible first visit. First of all, they denied me!
1) They said they denied me because he couldn't have a "lady friend" as well as a wife on his visit list. Well, it just so happens that his "lady friend" was his aunt and it was clear that she was his aunt because "Aunt" was written in the box where it says "relationship to inmate".
2) My father-in-law who is disabled was very nice to them. Since I couldn't get in, I handed him the baby and told him to take her in there with him so she could see her daddy. The lady CO at the front desk said no sir you can't do that. I said, "Well, can I sign the piece of paper giving him permission to take MY baby in?" and she ignored me. She told him that he couldn't take her because she was my baby and i wasn't allowed in there. HELLO! the whole point of signing that piece of paper is to give someone ELSE permission to handle the baby and I knew the rules.
3) I went back to the car (keep in mind, it was rainy, I had the baby, and I would have to sit in the car with an already very irritated baby) and my father-in-law had to walk me back because "i couldn't go by myself" said the COs.
4) He goes back. He handed her his wallet and she said no sir you can't have that wallet, take it back to your car. (our car was about 100 yards away and they didn't have handicapped parking spaces) So finally, he gets in to get searched. He pulls out 6 dollar bills and the male CO says Sir you can't have those dollars when nowhere did it say that the $30 had to be in quarters, dimes, nickles, etc. We figured since the money was for a vending machine, that it would take dollars bills. So the COs make him walk all the way back to the car to put it up (he has lupus and has had 11 back surgeries and keep in mind, all the COs seemed to really enjoy this). THEN, he goes back into the place and lo and behold, he has a pack of cigarettes. They tell him, sir you have to take that back to the car (why they don't have a trash can I don't know)
5) I swear I could see steam coming out of his ears!
6) Once Tommy (my FIL) got in to see my hubby, i had already been in the car for at least 30 minutes. So he told my hubby that we were sorry, but we can't see him that day so they both get up to leave and my FIL is tellin my hubby what happened and that he had never been so disrespected in his life. The sergeant asked him what happened and he proceeded to say that he had just never been so disrespected in his life.
7) One of the lady COs went off on him saying that he had disrespected her and her staff by telling the sergeant that and blah blah...
8) My hubby wrote me a letter saying that after we left, he started getting treated like crap which is the opposite of what we wanted to happen. So, my FIL talked to the commissioner and the assistant commissioner and told them what happened and all and the fact that one of the guards had been hitting thomas and that we could get a lawyer involved if we had to. So she cleared it up really quick.
You know what, we are not racist people by any means. However, that day, all the white people that went in there mysteriously got "denied." There was a black woman in there that also had an aunt on her hubby's visit list and she was denied in the computer, but the CO told her to wait a minute and she would fix it (THAT WOMAN GOT TO GO IN!) Is it me, or do they just not like white people? I hold nothing against the black people that got to go in and see their loved ones. I don't know if the COs just decided to "have some fun" that day or what. I don't understand. It's just putting insult to injury. I don't understand how someone could be so cold-hearted that they would do that to a person that was very friendly to them..
I didn't go in there to cause any trouble.
