View Full Version : Customizable Profiles - Step by Step how to
Jonathan 04-07-2008, 06:48 AM Many of you may have noticed you have the option now to customize your own profile, to see an example you may view mine: http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/member.php?u=29412
To do this you first will need to find a background that suits you and your personality.
I found mine on a myspace layouts page: www.glitter-graphics.com (http://www.glitter-graphics.com)
I found the background I liked, the downloaded and saved to my computer.
Then you will need to go into your profile and click on Show All Albums under your photo albums to the right on your profile then click on add album.
You will see several choices here:
Public
Private - Only visible to contacts and moderators
Profile - Pictures used to modify your profile style
You need to choose Profile
Then you need to name this album (I named my profile) then you can upload.
When uploading it is quicker and easier to do a smaller graphic that fits within the upload requirements:
Maximum File Size per Picture97.7 KBMaximum Picture Dimensions600 by 600 Pixels
Pictures will be automatically resized to fit within these constraints if possible. However, you may receive better results by doing it manually.
After uploading it go back into your profile and click on CUSTOMIZE PROFILE: http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/profile.php?do=customize
Here you will see under main heading a place to upload your background image and next to that an option that says repeat. I chose Both so my image is horizontial and vertical.
From there you can choose background colors and font colors simply by clicking on the box and choosing your color.
Everytime you click preview you will see a small box showing what all the different options are effecting, and can customize your look around that.
Then when all is said and done go to the bottom and save your work.
If you MAJORLY screw up don't get scared, you can reset all fields at the bottom of this page and start back from scratch!
If I can help any please let me know
Thumper81 04-07-2008, 08:06 AM will we do the same thing to post graphic comments or will we not be able to do that. Like on myspace???
Jonathan 04-07-2008, 08:10 AM I don't think you can unless you post them using the imbedded codes already, or upload them onto photobucket and then post them. I haven't tried!
Thumper81 04-07-2008, 08:12 AM Thanks sorry didn't mean to stump you lol.
flamered 04-07-2008, 08:58 AM Ok, either its way too early for me or the graphics gal is finally stuck on something.
I cannot seem to find the photo album in my profile.
Is it possible to post a screen shot so i can figure it out when i get back home?
Thanks!
flamered 04-07-2008, 11:47 AM I'm not seeing anything about photo albums.
How do i add them?
Thumper81 04-07-2008, 12:16 PM its on the right side of the page
flamered 04-07-2008, 12:26 PM Where?
I took a screenshot.
Am i blind or does it not exist on my profile?
Thanks
Thumper81 04-07-2008, 12:45 PM I didn't see it it's suppose to be under your friends and above the groups.
Mine looks like yours flamer.

Just_Be 04-07-2008, 04:35 PM Ahhhh! Thanks for the cheat sheet Jonathon! :-D
Thumper81 04-07-2008, 04:41 PM Hey alot of peoples looks like flammers. Is it just a bug in the system. Mine doesnt but a few are.
AndILoveHim 04-07-2008, 09:31 PM I uploaded the images to my album. I copied the URL of the background that I want (from my Prison Talk Album) but it keeps giving me an error: Main (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/profile.php?do=docustomize#usercss_main) has invalid properties: Background Image (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/profile.php?do=docustomize#main_background_image) --- why, why, why? lol
Jonathan 04-07-2008, 11:06 PM You made the album a private album instead of a PROFILE album. I have fixed this, try it again.

Waitin_4_J 04-08-2008, 12:21 AM Thanks for the instructions Jonathan! I had a ton of fun designing my first ever profile.
SummerRae 04-08-2008, 07:54 PM Ok, I'm stumped, I know how to do myspace coding, but once I found a code I liked, not sure how to save to my computer....
Please give me idiot proof instructions.
I have a code, but not sure where to put it or how to save. I have no options to save pic.
Jonathan 04-08-2008, 08:01 PM You cannot use Code.
You have to find a simple small picture that you like. Save it to your computer. Upload that to your profile photo album. And then use that picture for your background.
Idiot proof instructions are at post #1
LovinMyPrisoner 04-08-2008, 08:10 PM Neat!!! Now I just need some friends to add!:p
SummerRae 04-09-2008, 12:40 PM Idiot proof instructions are at post #1
Gee, thanks.
Obviously not idiot proof enough for me. I'll try and figure it out.

Yeah, I'm more of a hands on learner myself. So when I was directed to myspace layouts page and told to pick a background, that equates in my idiot head to the backgrounds on myspace... layouts... codes....
But had they said just pic any image and right click and save to wherever you save your pictures/ background, that would've made more sense.
No clue how to resize a picture manually.
And even when I got as far as saving my background and uploading it and customizing my profile, it still didn't work. So I give up.
And far too many steps to pesonalize a profile page. I'll stick to the purpose of the site and PTO support, I'm not too concerned about personalizing a page that not too many will frequent anyhow.
I'd prefer to read the threads in forums than check out everyone's profile. That's what I go to myspace for... LOL:p
When you aren't working with computers and coding on a regular basis, sometimes the basics don't sound as easy as they were explained.
Just a thought.
light at end 04-27-2008, 06:47 PM Can anyone help me with my aviator? It's too small and I don't know how to make it bigger.
Pnellwife3 06-08-2008, 02:47 PM hEY HOW DO U DOWNLOAD A PROFILE PAGE. I KEEP GETTING COPY THE CODE. HELP PLEASE. LOL
Thumper81 06-08-2008, 03:22 PM You can't change the size of your avatar.
You don't down load profile pages you copy a picture to your computer and then you add it to your profile albums. All you have to do is follow the steps provided by Jonathan.
NoAirMan 06-09-2008, 08:42 AM Did I do this one right? I cant seem to get anymore photos in the albums. ...

distressedangel 06-09-2008, 07:41 PM thanks jonathan, i think i got it. i just followed your instructions and figured it out..the only thing i had problems with was i forgot to click the little background to get it into the correct field, but finally figured it out.

I just tried this and I don't have the option to resize it. What I do is resize it using Microsoft Picture It. We can also resize it on PhotoBucket.
LoDucafan67 06-26-2008, 10:46 AM Ok! I followed the directions and it won't show up???? :banghead:
What am I doing wrong?
Tazz'Girl 06-26-2008, 06:53 PM Ok! I followed the directions and it won't show up???? :banghead:
What am I doing wrong?Did you upload your background to "Profile" album and did you save it when you went to "Customize Profile"?
thinkink 06-28-2008, 01:15 PM I too had a bit of trouble but figured out what I was doing wrong.
Jonathan, I know it took some time to write this up for us and thank you for that, but I hope you do not mind if I use what you gave (in black font) and insert a bit of what solved my problem (in red font). Some of us are less familiar with the process.
To do this you first will need to find a background that suits you and your personality.
I found mine at ; http://www.pyzam.com/myspacelayouts/details/neon-shards but I still only needed the background. Pyzam gives you the option of getting just the background. (Look to the right of the layout preview and you should see this option).
I then clicked on "Get the Background Only".
Which took me to this page; http://www.pyzam.com/backgrounds/code/703 but I still only needed the image. Ignore the code they provide.
Right click on the image then choose the option "Save picture as" and click "save" (remember where on your computer it is being saved to).
After you have uploaded the picture and saved it you should see a page that says "profile (profile album). You need to click on the picture and that will take you to a page that will have the picture url. Copy the url by right clicking on it. Then go to your user cp panel, choose customize profile option http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/pro...p?do=customize
Once there you will find a box that says "Background Image" this is where you insert the url of your picture, and next to that an option that says repeat. I chose Both so my image is horizontial and vertical. Click the save button in that area also.
Again, thank you!
NoAirMan 06-28-2008, 05:48 PM you just confused the heck out of me. lol! ... And I think I know what your saying. But one thing, pics on your comp, graphics, received files, what ever, if your on the page to do your page, you will see the browse thing, and click on the pic or what ever, do I need to go to your house? ...
thinkink 06-28-2008, 10:51 PM you just confused the heck out of me. lol! ... And I think I know what your saying. Did not mean to confuse anyone and apologize if I have done so.
(I only added the bit about how to get a background image for those that see a "layout" but don't know how to get just that part).
But to answer your question;
When you upload a picture into your pto album -
yes click the brouse button,
highlight the picture file,
click open, (you should then see the file name in that little window),
then click upload.
After you have uploaded the picture and saved it you should see a page that says "profile (profile album).
(This was the part that that I had trouble with but figured out)
You need to click on the picture and that will take you to a page that will have the picture url.
Copy the url by right clicking on it.
Then go to your user cp panel, choose customize profile option http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/pro...p?do=customize (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/pro...p?do=customize)
Once there you will find a box that says "Background Image" this is where you insert the url of your picture, and next to that an option that says repeat. I chose Both so my image is horizontial and vertical. Click the save button in that area also.
*MrsMcFatridge* 08-11-2008, 12:10 AM where it says registered user under my screeen name how do i change that to something else, like others say so and so forever and stuff like that?? :) oh and put a pic as a main pic ive tried it wont work for me lol
ntshadow1 08-11-2008, 12:23 AM Go to User CP, then click on Edit Your Options, go to second section where is says "Custom User Title" and type what you want in the box and then save changes.
where it says registered user under my screeen name how do i change that to something else, like others say so and so forever and stuff like that?? :) oh and put a pic as a main pic ive tried it wont work for me lol
*MrsMcFatridge* 08-11-2008, 12:36 AM it doesnt say custom user title....
Dale'sforever 08-11-2008, 01:10 AM Hi there, go to usercp, then edit your details, then you'll see the custom user title to change it...:)
thinkink 08-11-2008, 10:28 AM go to "user cp".
click on "edit your details".
when that page loads you should see an area (middle of the page) that shows this sentence, "Optional Information", this is the section that has the "custom user tittle". Enter your text into the box, scroll down to the bottom of the page and "save your changes".
To answer your question about the pic. If you are referring to the images that are shown next to someones user name, this is called "avatar".
this is also done from your "user cp".
click on "edit avatar".
when that page loads, click on "Use Custom Avatar".
if it is an image that has a url use option 1.
if it is an image stored on your pc use option 2, click on "browse",
"highlight the file", click "open", then "save your changes".
With an avatar; Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 64 by 64 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller). You may have to resize your pic, pm me if you need help with that.
If you don't see your changes try refreshing your page.
If you are talking about a pic down at the bottom of your posts (like the pic of my brother at the bottom of this post),
this is done by going to your "user cp".
click on "edit signature", in the middle of the page look for the section that says "Signature Picture ". This is done the same way that the avatar is done. Click "upload", and "save changes".
*MrsMcFatridge* 08-11-2008, 07:49 PM You guys are awesome thanx a bunch :)
penwife 08-22-2008, 10:19 PM I don't have access to my photo album either! Can I change this myself or will i need a blue to do it?
thinkink 08-22-2008, 10:45 PM My guess would be that if you can't acess your photo albums through your cp panel (in the networking section that reads "pictures and albums") you might have to have a blue do it.
When I went to look on your profile page, albums are not showing up. Is it possible you set it to private?
I'll be interested in learning the answer...smile.
penwife 08-24-2008, 12:00 PM I'm pretty sure I never set my album to private and if I had, why wouldn't I have the option to change it back? I can't wait to figure this out either!
