Domestic violence law extended

TALLAHASSEE - As the parents of murdered Ocala student Tiffany Barwick watched, the Florida House unanimously approved a bill Wednesday that would extend domestic violence laws to dating relationships as well.


Barwick, 19, was murdered near the University of Central Florida campus in Seminole County in September. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged with the crime. Barwick had requested protection by law enforcement agencies, but was told there was no law allowing intervention based on the type of harassment and threats she reported.

House Bill 313, approved 113-0 on Wednesday, would allow law enforcement officers to act on threats of violence in dating situations as long as the relationship has existed for six months or longer and met certain standards that transcend mere friendship. READ THIS IMPORTANT NEWS ARTICLE:
