Can anybody please explain the new passport rules. I know there is the website but it is still kinda confusing. I really want to go on a cruise for my honeymoon this august. The problem is he gets out in july so that we probably won't have enough time to get a passport. I was wondering do you need a passport for a "nowhere" cruise or do you need one if you going to u.s territories like puerto rico and the bahamas.
Thank you guys and i really need help trying to find a nice place to go for a honeymoon. He gets out july26, we get married on august 8 so it's down to crunch time!

A nowhere cruise does not require a passport, and neither do any of the US territories such as Puerto Rico (PR is very, very nice for a honeymoon btw).
There is an expedited (and expensive) process for getting a passport, but it will take 2 weeks. You do this by going to your REGIONAL passport office (mine is in Houston) and applying directly there.
You also need to look into felon entry into whatever country you will be visiting. Many do not allow certain crimes (such as dealing drugs) and even if he had a passport, he still may not be allowed entry. And they do check criminal backgrounds on all international travelers.
You can always go down to your local post office and ask any them any questions you are not sure of. Each post office also takes passport applications.

^^^Thanks so much for responding. I went to the website and it said that if you are traveling by land or sea that all you need is a driver's license and a birth certificate...it's just so confusing...where did you go when you took your vacation to puerto rico
My favorite hotel in Puerto Rico was in San Juan, the Hotel El Convento. It is in the historical part of San Juan. Just beautiful.

Youre best bet is to talk to a travel agent. When I went on my cruise in April of 07 you were not forced to have a passport yet ... but as of Jan 1, 08 ~ its my understanding that you've got to have one before gettin on the boat. Our travel agent told us the same thing. I would double check just to be on the safe side!! :)

. This is not true. You only have to worry about this if you are applying for a visa. Most countried do not require visas for US visitors.
