I want to find out how many of us here have loved ones in prison because of drugs. Not just drug charges, any charges, but because of a drug problem?
Robert's first crime that sent him to prison to begin with was not a drug charge, but it WAS because of his addiction to drugs.
I bet the numbers here are going to be pretty high.

my husband is in jail becuse of a drug charge and what help does that do him. These guys shouldn't be in jail they should be in a rehab center, because to tell you the truth being in jail is just making him feel terrible.

My brother got 15 yrs for drugs...selling, using alittle bit of everything you could say. One night we were all sleeping my moms, me and my children then someone drives by shooting at our house...thank god none of us were killed...when my brother came home the next day he said he got into it with another dealer. So hopefully these 15 years will help him change his ways.

My boyfriend is in prison because of drugs also. He let them rule his life. When he was sentenced he was supposed to go to long term treatment but then they went back a few months later and deleted that from his sentence. I had no idea they could do that but I guess they can. I hope and pray everyday that he will be strong enough and has learned his lesson and can stay clean.

My husband is there because of drugs. He was letting them lead the way he lived. He needed money to buy so he decided to try and take someones money. (I left before this)
I was pregant at the time and really knew nothing about drugs and I gave him a choice drugs or me? He chose drugs and I left. I didnt want to be around that with a baby coming into the picture.
Now he says that if I would have been stronger and made him change about the drugs and our son he would of stopped or maybe changed. I told him there was really no choice in the matter. And if he loved me he would of chose us and not the drugs. And I am not one to force a child on another and have since pounded some sense into his head.(I pray)
Men are sometime so egotistical.

Jeni my guys story sounds kinda like yours. He robbed a little motel in a small town because the motel owner owed him drug money. He got 10-15 years for the robbery charge. Was out on parole for about 8 months and went back on parole revok. with a new charge of drug possesion.

Well mine got basically life for drugs. 20 years. He's never done drugs or even drinks, but me on the other hand, I was an addict and did time for it. My mom, at 70 is still an alcoholic / addict. I've been straight for 14 years, but grew up in prisons and jails. Started shooting at 14. Then there is the whole, where the money's at thing...

Eddy's in on 1st Degree Drug charges - manufacturing meth. Heavy duty stuff here, he got a max 13 year sentence, out in 8 1/2 with good time.

He's also been convicted in the past of 3 counts of sales (2 weed, 1 meth, all 3 very small quantities but that doesn't apparently matter) and once got a felony possession charge in Arizona...they don't mess around down there...a few pot seeds can and does land you a felony.

My son is a crack addict. All of his crimes are related to getting money for his habit. He is back down now for the sixth time and hopefully the last time!

my fiance is in for drug related crime also.
he has had a problem with heroin since his son died in 1996, he thought that was the only way he could cope with the pain. like so many others who can't get the help they so desperately need, he stole from me, from his family, & from the public before being caught. i too, was desperate to get him help. i informed the police of his whereabouts, got him arrested. i felt guilty for months afterwards, but now i feel relieved. he's serving a 4 yr sentence, and he's clean!!! i just hope that he remains this way on his release next year. what are the chances of this happening?

Jeni

85%-charges due to drugs (directly or indirectly)
15%-other charges
I know you can all read this in the poll, but the percentages are just what we thought. It's true-the public will be amazed- most of the people locked up are not the "evil monsters" they thought they were. They are people who got caught up in drugs and started doing things they normally wouldn't do.
Wow-something we can be proud of.
Yea, right.

My husband is in for drug charges he recieved 10 years for dealing meth Never had a drug charge before and was rehabilatated when they sentenced him. He was charged in 2000 arrrested in 2001 quit drugs in 2001 and went to prison in 2003. What is up with this system ? These people only need a chance to change rehab i think instead of prison. 89%of inmates return to prison .. what is this telliing us? We had a bad drug problem and checked in to rehab and became clean but still continued intensive outpatient therapy and they gave him 20 years do 10 .. Our kids will be raised by then :( i am so sad

My bf is not in jail because of drug charges. He has had no drug charges in 10+ years (thank god!). He is in jail because of another crime which he would not have done had he not been doing the drugs which caused him not to be thinking clearly.

My man is in for drug charges--he was charged with trafficing.I live in south dakota and he was charged in texas. His offense has caused him to miss out on his childrens first everythings he's never met our youngest. I pray that the time he serves makes him realize its just not worth all that.

Hi my name is Ashley I am 23 yrs old and I am not married but have 2 children with my fiancee Jeremy. Yes he is in prison for drugs! He has an addiction to drugs and It has torn our family apart. I have been there for him through all of the pain and suffering and even did drugs to make myself fill more apart of him. But they didnt do the same for me as they did for him. Jeremy is serving a 8 year sentence and has only been in since dec 12 of 2006. I pray he does not do all it!

I agree with you. I think that they cant grow in jail to become a better person they get in there with people who dont care about life and that makes things alot more difficult on those who do.

How long has he been in prison and actually given time served? My fiancee has been sentenced to 8 years and has only served 1 year and 2 months. He told me that he was given 10 do 2 type of sentence....i'm alittle confused with how that all works.

I agree. My man was on drugs at time he committed his crimes, however its still not an excuse. He made the wrong choice to use the drug in the first place and thats a consequence he has to live and learn by. Everyone has a choice to choose right or wrong.

honestly he should take the plea b/c if he doesnt they have no choice but to give him atleast 15 yrs if convicted and theres a good chance he will get convicted cause they dont play and chances are the judge will give him less time my plea was for 18-24 mons and i got house arrest for 6 mons but they violated me for talkin to another felon and gave me 6 mons in jail and another yr of house arrest, so be careful they arent playin games

plea bargains are very trick thats one thing i learned about them but also they can help...btu sometimes they hit you with the plea just so you can surrender...sometimes they hit you with it and screw you over and you end up getting more time than intentioned...then sometimes you were actually given a brake....but in your case the deision is totally up to him but i say take it....60 months beats the hell out of 15 years....good luck with everything

My man is in for attempted sale (bullcrap charge!) and conspiracy.

He was seen in the background of surveillance "letting" the drug sale happen. They wanted him to snitch on someone else because a lot of arrests they had made had mentioned his name and the other guy. He wouldn't snitch and they tried everything to take the other man down. He's still free and my man's been in for almost 2 years.

He had a drug habit and would tag along with these sellers - they would give him drugs and he would drive them around...and stay in the car while the sales were made. So yes he was involved with the stuff but I think he should have been sent to a treatment program for a little while at least. How exactly is 3 years locked up going to "solve" the addiction he's had for 20 years??

Yup...hubby's locked up this time b/c of drugs. Not actually a drug charge...but he was involved in some ish TO GET drugs. As someone else said...that doesn't excuse his actions...he was plain old stupid FOR REAL! They didn't catch them in the action...but someone wrote a statement against them about what they did. Anyways...yea, b/c of his drug habit:(

Yep my hubby took a plea bargin on a possession for sale, mind you he has a perscrirption for weed from a doctor and they still sent him. He has 2 feliones that are 20 years old and they frist tryed to give him 25, then 3 years and then the final deal at a year, not bad considering what he could have gotten!!

My man is in for running a major drug ring with a friend. They got him on no sales and found nothing when they raided the house. However, all of his boys that were caught on tape gave him up. His partner even wrote a statement and the partners wife testified against him. He was facing 45 yrs and took a plea that gave him 84 months with credit for time served. He ended up going in on a 55 month bid. He was able to obtain a para-legal degree while awaiting sentencing and helped out alot with his case. HE is now working the law library and trying to get out early. Fingers crossed that parole gets reinstated during the next session infront of congress. HE would get one year knocked off for entering the drug program but since he had a gun in the house they say he may not be able to do the drug program.

I found this site through pogo.com a friend I play with posted here. Glad I found it. I have been locked up 3 times for cocaine and meth. I really like to smoke meth. My teeth are rotting out now and I have a record I can not clear my name. I regret it and caused my family and me a lot of greif. I feel for anyone dealing with this and I know your loved ones who may have done the terrible things I have done regret it to. May god be with you all.

My father is serving 56 years on a 1st offense, non-violent drug crime..... What he did when he was outside was wrong, but he shouldn't have to die in prison for it.

It's not fair for him. It's not fair for our family.

My husband is in basically for manufacturing and possesion of meth, he also absconded so thats where we are right now. Luckily this charge was from 2002 because if he would have gotten popped now the sentence would have been muchmore severe. We are both recovering.

JCurry: Girl we love you and thanx for sharing that your BOTH in recovery. That's important so that both of you get the help you need and even when you're clean and have been for some months, DON'T STOP going to meetings.. .it's SO important even tho they seem stupid and boring and "been there, done that" but I guarantee they will help in the long run. My baby was addicted to heroin terribly. He didn't shootup but snorted it like it was regular air to breathe. By the Grace of God he has been clean for almost 24 months now and I pray every day that he will continue to grow in the Lord and keep himself straight. He hit rock bottom one day and that was it. However, he had this old charge to take care of for poss. w/ intent to distribute in a school zone... so he had to go back and take care of that. He "absconded" and we got pulled over in Baltimore - NJ came an extradited him and I haven't seen him in almost 4 months now. You guys just stay strong and work towards keeping yourselves together even though it seems like it's hard, it will get better!!!

We love u girl~~ PTO...

My best friend got 7 years for selling two hits of LSD to a minor. The kid took the acid and was running around his front yard naked. His parents took him to the hospital and told the cops everything b/c he was scared. Don't sell drugs to kids.

My husband had a possession of crack (less than one tenth of one ounce)charge 5 years ago and got probation. At the time he wasn't ready to change and when we moved he let probation slide which lead to them losing him for two and a half years even though we moved back into a house where he had been under intensive probation and he should have been easily found. They issued a warrant Jan 2006 (his probation would have been completed in March of 2006) and just found him this May. Now his probation was revoked (although his time was long ago up, and he has had no more charges or trouble since that charge) and he has to serve his original suspended sentence of 6 to 8 months. In NC that means he will definitely serve 6 but can work down from the 8. Meanwhile since he was Mr. Mom while I teach school, I suddenly have to find childcare when school starts back for our 3 1/2 year old. It sucks but I feel lucky compared to you guys that have much more time till your loved ones come home!

My daughter is a heroin addict. What a horrible drug it is! All drugs are horrible but this one takes the cake. She is in a drug abuse prison now with five more months to go. She broke into someone's house to steal stuff to pawn in order to buy drugs. I sure hope this works. If not, I will probably wind up burying my daughter. That is a horrible thought but my biggest fear in this world. Keeps me up at night when she is out and I am sleeping at night now knowing that she is safe. It is a sick life both for her and me.
