My brother is in High Desrt Prison in Susanville, CA. He was brutally assaulted and stabbed on Nov 3rd. His family was not contacted because he only had his "girlfriend " listed as an emergency contact. She was not contacted because she is not "related". Nonetheless, we have found out what happened from a anonymous call and upon contacting the prison was given very minimal info regarding what happened and am told we can not see him or have contact with him unless he is dying. Thank God he is not dying , but from what I have found out he is "lucky to be alive."
Does any body have any experience with this type of situation? Do we , as his family , have any rights? I was able to discover on my own where he is at, but the hospital will give me no information, other than the fact that he is going to pull through.
Please, anybody with advice, let me know what I can do.
By the way, supposedly, he was assaulted because he vouched for a prisoner released in Sept who owed $200 and has not paid yet.

Wow, that is a really scary story. I'm really sorry about what happened, I know you must be dying to see and talk to your brother. Can you send cards maybe? I;m sure he is also going through a hard time being alone through this. I don't have any advice for you, but maybe someone will come along with some. You came to the right place for support. Hugs!

I just wanted to say my husband was at high desert for four years, we are now at ccc and thank god everyday. When he was there he saw many people get killed and the guards didn't look twice. What I know and what my husband has told me is that the inmates are property of the calif. prison system and they do not have to call unless you're family member passes away. Just something for you to think about. I hope all goes well with your brother, tell him to stay strong and try and get out of there

upon entry into the CDC all inmates fill out a form for emergency notification (CDC form #127) Due to the rules of confidentiality, if your not listed on the from, CDC will not call you. Per policy only immedeate family are notified in an emergency. If someone listed a girlfriend on the emergency notification, they would only be called in case of death as they are not an immedeate family member. They would only be notifed as the from asked the inmate who they want their possession released to.
im sorry about that and to tell you the thruth im very worried because my husband is know in HDSP. i didnt even know about this insident. what yard is your brother in?

High Desert has been a living nightmare since it opened up. My guy was there back in 1997 and it was a hellhole already back then. Alley Cat Boy if you write your brother they will forward the mail to him even at the hospital, at least they did back in '97 because my guy's celly was attacked and seriously hurt, flown out by helicopter to a hospital and he got my mail right away while he was in the hospital. Of course that could have been a streak of luck because it is hard to believe they would forward mail to the hospital. Anyway I hope your brother is OK.

How is your brother? Is he still at HDSP Cali? I noticed that this is an old message.
