View Full Version : What is the LONGEST it could take from sentencing before they do anything?
GiaElise09 03-27-2008, 02:23 PM This is getting redicules!!!! Seven weeks since his sentencing and the paperwork is just sitting in the judge's office...I can't rouse anyone to tell me anything!! So he's sitting in county waiting every morning to be yanked out of bed. Could this mean there is some problem with the sentencing? The judge has to sign off on his Journal Entry paperwork with the details of his sentence...how could it take longer then three weeks for him to get that done? (The judge's office has had it for three weeks before that it was shuttled from the pros. office to his public defender back to the pros. office and now to the judge.) Could they just keep him in county for the remainder of his sentence? Are they trying to run time down so they can do something? I'm grasping at straws here!!!
 ANY SUGGESTIONS?? Help!! GiaElise
jeffsue1999 03-29-2008, 01:21 AM No suggestions, but was just wondering if he is in a large county? My son was in a small county.
GiaElise09 03-31-2008, 09:25 PM This morning I finally got ahold of someone who gave me some real answers. Turns out his paperwork was finished a week ago today (March 24th), he has been--on paper anyway--transferred to Kansas DOC so now it's just yet another waiting game till he's transported to RDU. Now I'm praying he isn't transferred tomorrow AM because then I can load up the phone account tomorrow and we can talk a few times before he goes (probably later this week...I'm rather shocked he didn't go late last week).
Progress is always slow when dealing with DOC and the courts! I'll never get used to it though!!!!
GiaElise09 04-01-2008, 09:39 PM Well, today was the day! Unfortunately!!!! After seven weeks (over seven weeks) of waiting since his sentencing on Feb 7th they transported him 1 HOUR before he could have called me--for the first time in over two and a half weeks since we used up our pre-paid phone minutes last month.
I woke up at 6AM and when he didn't show up in Kasper I put a bunch of money on our account and then sat around waiting for him to call. Finally around 7:30 I couldn't stand it anymore and called the jail (all the times are Pacific since I'm in WA state) and they said he'd just been transferred one hour before!! UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH!!!!!
But at least that period of waiting is over and now I can begin waiting for him to get OUT of RDU in one piece so we can have our first contact visit in over eight months!!!
How long has it been taking to get them into Kasper--anybody know? He's not in Kasper yet. I'll hunt around, I think someone already answered this.
GiaElise09 04-01-2008, 09:44 PM to how long it takes to update in Kasper. So no need for more answers...thanks!
jeffsue1999 04-03-2008, 01:06 AM Ok so you found out about the update in the KASPER, I waited up til 4AM the day Daniel got transferred and they posted at 4:40 AM go figure!!! So in about 4 or 5 days they will have his charges listed, then it takes about a total of 3 to 3 1/2 weeks in RDU before they post the custody level. Then about few days to a week and they are outta there. My son said he would rather have medium low instead of minimum, something about minimum being in dorms and not cells he would rather be in a cell. Oh, it took me 5 days to get a letter from him. You can go ahead and write your man NOW and send him the list of addresses and phone numbers of who will call that will hurry things along. I did not do this fast enough :blah: .If you will be visiting him then they will need you name, address, DOB and Social security number. Get those two list to him ASAP (my son's words). OK to write him send it to:
Inmate name DOC # (this is on KASPER)
El Dorado Correctional Facility
PO BOX 311
El Dorado, Kansas 67042
He will be soooo happy to get a letter maybe even before he can send you one. :yay: They cannot call until they get that list from you so send it soon. My son has been at RDU since the 20th and has not been able to call yet. Oh, my son said he is fine and busy, busy, busy on the weekdays. If I can help you anymore just ask. :)
GiaElise09 04-03-2008, 11:37 AM Yeah, I sent him a letter off yesterday. Do you know if they have a page limit or a letter length limit? Mine was 9 pages typed so I put two stamps on it--I'm pretty sure it was more than 1 oz. The sheet re mailing letters mentioned that articles etc. could be sent as long as they were less then 1 oz so I am hoping they don't have the same limitation on letters.
A guy going through the jail gave him an RDU packet about three weeks ago so we already got all our info together for the visit/phone lists so he'll have that with him--I'm thinking--but I'll resend the list just in case it takes awhile for him to get his stuff transfered to him from county.
I'm really hoping to come out to visit him Memorial Day weekend--hopefully he'll have time to request special visit for us for that weekend since I'll be coming so far. Of course that is all dependant on him getting somewhere by then...
His earliest release date was on Kasper this morning...two weeks longer then I'd calculated but thats not to big a difference.

MLamars 04-03-2008, 07:15 PM Well I will tell you that it is 4 typed sheets of paper for each stamp. FOund that out the hard way. Just tell him to shred your letters unless he needs them for some reason. When he gets his placement it is a good thing to send crosswords printed off of the computor and other puzzles. It gives them something to take up the time. RDU is just his assesment and he will be evaluated and placed where he will be going. Good luck to you. Mom
jeffsue1999 04-04-2008, 12:18 PM Gia my son did not get to take anything from county with him. The jail called me when they got back from transporting him to go to the jail and pick up his items. I just got a letter this morning and he said that he has used his last stamped envelope that they provide, if I counted right that makes 4 between me and my parents. Oh he has been there since the 20th and has not gotten the money put on his books yet that was at the county jail. So why shred the letters M? Then he can't re-read them.
MLamars 04-04-2008, 03:36 PM Well that sucks that he is out of stamps, when he goes to the facility that he will go to he will get the money that he had on his books. But I don't think he gets it till then. Just keep sending him letters. At least he can read stuff form you anyway. I forget alot of the little stuff it has been so lnog.since my son left. I will do all I can to help you if you need anything. Let me know. Mom
GiaElise09 04-05-2008, 12:34 AM Got a letter from my hubby and a 1 minute free phone call today!! (So weird but at least we got to say "I love you" a dozen times!! I uploaded money to my phone account with Embarq tonight so he can call the next time he's allowed access to a phone) YEA!
I'd sent him all the info for the phone list before he was transferred so my number is already approved he says. Also, the money does take awhile to transfer but I've already sent him more via the deposit coupon he sent me.
And as to shredding the letters...I think she's referring to the fact that they can only keep 10 letters with them and 50 photos with them through RDU. My hubby had his stuff from county the same day he was transported with nothing missing he said. Not sure why your son wouldn't have been allowed to take stuff...I know that my hubby's personal items that he had on him when he was arrested weren't transferred and I've got to make arrangements (special situation) to have them mailed to me somehow since I'm in WA state.
In case your son hasn't told you much detail here is what my hubby said about RDU. It's 3 times better then when he was locked down for awhile in county jail. The cell is larger, he's got a desk, a garbage can, shelves for storing his stuff and even a pillow. He is very excited about having salt and pepper, butter on his veggies and more food again (after seven months without those things). So far everyone has treated him rather well and even though he's on lockdown it's still better then the county jail. I guess they have to be up at 4 am and the mail goes out at 10PM. That's all he said in this letter...I'll let you know anything else I learn.

jeffsue1999 04-05-2008, 06:23 PM Thanks Gia and mom, I am still waiting for my phone call. He said he would Call this weekend, so I am afraid to shower for fear of missing the call.
Nice to know about the cell, he did tell me that he got transfered to another area where he has a cellmate, got moved at 2 AM, I guess they must have needed the single cell. He also said he has seen some of the guys he had met at county.
Yeah they do starve them at Miami county, but Allen county has good food, my son did not even need to buy snacks there. I guess that is why they are all skinny when they get to RDU. My niece did some internship during college at Lansing and she said they eat good there.
