View Full Version : The YOGA Laughter Club
MDF1965 03-24-2008, 09:54 PM There's a whole 'nother culture out there who are contortionists and stretch freaks! They manipulate their bodies, feet, arms, legs, and feet into places that defy any anatomy classes I had in college. The magazine "YOGA" has the picture of a lovely young woman on the cover that boggles my mind. I didn't know you could touch your feet by lifting your leg that far from the ground.
Well......I'm going to do cyber yogo. Yoga looks so graceful and it looks like it probably does a person very well to begin this.......when they're 24 hours old. I'm almost certain that's the last time my knees could touch my chin(s). And if I were 15 again, and thin, and limber, I would DEFINITELY begin by taking yoga classes.... but since I'm 60, fat, and riddled with arthritis and degenerative disc disease, I can only watch yoga on tv and do it mentally.
So I was wondering if any of you'd care to join me doing cyber yoga. We can "mmmmmmmm" and we can describe the poses that we like best. (Go to www.yogabasics.com (http://www.yogabasics.com) for more information!) I think it's a hoot! The names of the poses are a laugh as well: crane bakasana looks like a good one for reducing stress  or changing the tires on the SUV! (do they get hemorroids from doing yoga??)
Laughter is the best medicine. Yoga's gotta be up there with the morphine! :ha:
Well.......it's a change of pace for us in any case! March can be a bit drab. My Easter snowmen looked so cute! Not!!!!
So, anybody wanna have a little fun? Beverages will be served .... natch!
reggie42 03-25-2008, 10:05 AM Ok, this made me laugh! Out loud!!!! Mary you are such a God send, an Angel, thank you. I'm going to check out that link in a bit, and cyber yoga is about the only kind I can do too. What a hoot! :)
tigrldy 03-25-2008, 10:13 AM Mary, I have a book that I bought with Yoga moves. They are a series of stretches etc, but one of my favorites is the esophagus cleanse. You take a clean long rag and start swallowing it (now that assumes the gag mechanism doen't kick in so that you can swallow a rag without throwing up everywhere). After you get a portion of it down, you pull it back out - cleansing the debris as you bring it forth. Oh yeah - just what I wanted to clean out today.
MDF1965 03-25-2008, 10:48 AM Tigr! OMG!!!! That's is ... umm..... err.....astonishing? No.... it's really, really weird!
:::stretched to put socks from lotus position:::: (or was it float-us?)
wendy tyler 03-25-2008, 11:41 AM I'm way ahead of the game, I'm doing cyber jogging and cyber weight lifting 12 oz at a time.
Tigr, I had a gym teacher in high school that actually did the rag swallowing. I had a huge crush on him until I learned that!

jancy 03-25-2008, 12:09 PM I am doing the part of my last Yogo class that I love best. never let this pose go, forgot all the others:
lay flat on the floor, arms wide out in a cross shape. close eyes. dream of your fav location, picture yourself walking on the beach, hair flowing, filmy gauze over that bikini...lol old high school boyfriend holding your hand.
Merryb22 03-25-2008, 02:34 PM OK.......I have my leg stuck behind my head, Now what? How bout a strong drink...that way I won't feel the pain when I bend it back...ouch.. :slap: LOL
MotherJ 03-25-2008, 03:14 PM OK Ladies! I've been lurking and think if I'm to join you, I'm gonna need a good stiff drink. About 40 years and 50 pounds ago I seriously was into this stuff. Never did the esophagus cleanse though. :yuck:
tigrldy 03-25-2008, 03:28 PM Jancy I like your pose but scrap the old high school boyfriend. He's probably got a major case of dunlap disease. I want George Clooney instead.
MotherJ 03-25-2008, 03:37 PM Amen to that, tigr.
justadeb 03-25-2008, 05:28 PM when i can't sleep i tune the tv on to that dude that dose yoga...while i lay in bed..i get so relaxed just watching...:D
wendy tyler 03-25-2008, 08:46 PM MotherJ, isn't it amazing how limber you get after having one of those good stiff drinks! There's not a yoga position I think I can't get into, or a dance move I think I can't do.
Wendy
perque 03-26-2008, 01:13 AM Well, now that we are laughing and doing yoga, did you know there is a laughing yoga http://www.yogacards.com/laughing-yoga.html and click on the Laughing Yoga Clip link. This goes especially well with a stiff drink
MDF1965 03-26-2008, 08:53 AM Wow! Laughing yoga! I'd be lucky to breathe doing yoga, but I'm sure I'd be laughing my a** off trying to get into a pretzel position. And I like Jancy's yoga position! And I watch that guy on tv, too, Deb! I'm also enjoying the yogo clothing -- spandex, no doubt! I love spandex!!!
Hey! you guys in the back of the room! QUIT LAUGHING so hard! I'm meditating.
reggie42 03-26-2008, 12:21 PM This one is easy, been doing for years every time I put my jeans on! :)

myboysmom 03-26-2008, 01:02 PM Thanks for the thread, as I am sitting here my first day out of hospital from ankle surgery, I am feeling very motivated for my recovery. In the recovery room I met a wonderful nurse who has bounced back from diabetes, high blood pressure. She is 55, at the age of 53, she bought a bicycle, she has been riding for 2 years, and started yoga last year, no more medicine as of this year. I am going to try this.
jancy 03-26-2008, 01:24 PM seriously I took Yoga and made my friend take it with me. it was her BD one night so we went before Yoga to happy hour at applebees, they had half price snax and frozen margaritas.
We giggled all thru yoga and when they had us stand on one leg, I nearly fell.
the old high school Bf looked me up after my divorce 6 yrs ago and flew up from FLA to see me. he stayed at his sister's and we went someplace during the days.
he was no longer gorgeous. he was cynical and opinionated. no longer handsome and was jaded. ugh.
end of story.
jancy 03-26-2008, 03:09 PM ...he was also 60 pds heavier, used spray on hair color and wrinkle cream daily, was narcissistic..
jancy 03-26-2008, 03:11 PM ...and hated kids, never had any...bragged he had been with a 100 women..and I found out after he left...he was living with his GF of seven yrs, was engaged and went home and married her.
now, end of story!
I'm His Mom 03-26-2008, 03:41 PM Yes, think I'll stick to my stretch pants and sweats.[quote by reggie42]
Glad I found great jeans that stretch! And when they are hard to zip then I exercise for about 3 days and give up my favorites potatoes, pasta, and my dessert menu for 3 days. Haven't tried yoga yet, but then I've never been a big fan of pretzels, and I'd have to call the Fire Dept up the road to untangle me.
wendy tyler 03-26-2008, 05:09 PM Jancy, narcissistic is kind. He sounds like an aging Vegas lounge lizard.

Well, here I am in my pose..... and I found having a huge butt helps in maintaining this position. Naturally, I recall my elementary school teachers (who were old, mean nuns) admonishing me for showing my unnerwear on the swings! How else was I supposed to show it???
Have a great day! Oh, did you hear about dogs have ADHDD, Attention Deficite Hyperactive Dog Disorder? I think my Coton may have this! She turns into a wild child when the UPS guy drives by! Yup, they're giving them drugs to help with restless tail syndrome, too. You ever been whomped by a lab's tail??? Ouch! :hmm:
::::taking a pain pill now from leg cramps::::
