I searched and searched the Internet trying to get specific directions to Ventress in Clayton, AL. Never could find any. I printed some general directions for Clayton for our visit today and thought there has got to be some folks out there that can make use of my directions. So, here goes - hope this helps someone to ease some anxiety.
Remember, the main focus is the intersection of Hwy 239 and 51. If you get to this point from Eufaula, west, north or south of Clayton, no problem. It might help to print a MAPQUEST map of the general area to take with you.
FROM EUFAULA:
1. As you go south on U.S. 431 and enter Eufaula you are looking for
state road 30. This turn-off is after you cross over a couple of the
bridges that span Lake Eufaula and pass through town as you continue
on 431S.
2. State Road 30 is on the RIGHT, so you will travel WEST on this road
for exactly 19.0 miles. Do not veer off this road, stay on it. As you
approach Clayton begin looking for State Road 51 as you near the 19.0
mark.
3. Take a RIGHT onto 51 and go exactly 1.0 mile. You will cross over
W. Louisville Road. At the 1.0 mile mark is Hwy 239.
4. Take a LEFT going WEST on 239 and continue for exactly 1.9 miles.
You will pass the Barbour County Jail on the left so begin slowing
down because the entrance to Ventress is on the RIGHT with a sign
out front.
FROM THE WEST, NORTH, OR SOUTH OF CLAYTON:
Remember, you will most likely be coming toward Clayton either on Hwy 239 or Hwy 51. Either way be aware the entrance to Ventress is 1.9 miles WEST of the intersection of 239 and 51 in Clayton.
By the way, get there by 7:30am, Central, because you will have to wait in your car until visitation begins at 8:00am, then park. Also, you no longer need your tag number when you get processed for visitation. But you will need your social security card, NOT just your number but your card itself. Know or bring the AIS# of your loved one too. Each person can bring $20 in quarters in a clear plastic ziplock baggie. Take advantage of that, the concessions are somewhat expensive. It will get quite noisy with all the folks in the same room, but who cares, you're 5 hours with your loved one is really ALL that matters.
God Bless.
