Well, we got to the reception center when we were told to to get the paper work filled out. Seems there was a slight problem. The moron that I spoke with on Sunday about visiting my hubby failed to mention that there was a 7 day waiting period before visitation!!!He knew that Frank had just gotten transferred there on th first. So we were told to come back after the 7th. I was livid! Moron also told me that there was no special consideratin because we live 12 hours away. WRONG we can call and arrange any two consecutive days @ a time, whenever we can make it. He told me nope Tuesdays only. Sure, they didn't lose 2 days pay or spend all the money to come down only to have to go right back. Our kids were sooo bummed, they have been so excited to see Daddy! our 7 yo daughter bolted from the building. We are going to try for next weekend so I don't lose so much time @ work. From now on I will be sure to write down every name I deal with. I can't believe this guy did not have a clue! I have never seen so much disorganization as I have in Ohio!

kmeg....
I empathize with your frustration... definitely a good idea to get things in writing and document who you get information from!!! I hope you don't ever have to go through such a thing again... once is more than enough!!

How heart-breaking - all that time and distance and no visit! I am so sorry!

I totally empathize with you. When John was still on Riker's Island he was in the same facility for at least a year. Well one day I go to visit (which by the way the process to get into to visit takes longer than the actual visit which is only an hour) only to be told he was transferred to another facility on Riker's Island. So I have to start all over again with the processing another 2 hours and then was told oh no Mrs. Stewart he was sent to Brooklyn House of Detention. I didn't even know where that was!! By the time I got there it was 5 p.m., mind you the day started at 7:30 and I got to see him for about 15 minutes. I was in hysterics. That's why I always call now and get names. Sorry you had to go through this sweetie but next weekend will be better

kmeg, as danielle said, how heartbreaking for both of you! hang in there, sweetie, and make that trip when you KNOW you'll be able to visit your husband ~ trust me, it will make up for the $hitty experience you had this go round!

Keep your name record but also for important information that I needed I found I needed to call and talk to at least 4 different people to get ALL the correct information. The idiots that answer the phone don't know or the like to give out false and incomplete information. MORONS!

Who ever I have on the phone line I keep asking them, "ANYTHING ELSE?" "ARE YOU SURE THIS ALL I NEED?" over and over. THe person on the line finally gets fed up with me and answers "the prisoner knows the rules or information."

Another answer that drives me crazy.......Passing the buck. That is great the prisoner knows but I NEED TO KNOW.

If they don't know the information then they shouldn't waste my time and money by answering the phone.

also if your institution publishes it's visitation ordinances on the web, as oregon does here, it's helpful to take a printout of those rules and regulations. (sometimes they are quite lenghthy) then when confronted with an issue that contradicts the rules, you can just pull them out and ask to speak to a supervisory person.

I hate to hear that happened to you. You would think that those people would let you know the rules and regulations when you call.

I feel for you. 12 hours is an enormously long trip to take. I hope the next time you go that everything works out more smoothly with you.
