Greetings all. Just found this forum and it is a big relief. My roommate is in Del Valle (TCCC) and no one can give any answers on rules about mail, visitation schedule, etc. She called me a little while ago to say they aren't letting her have her meds and are telling her all kinds of stuff that I know is not right. But then again they just make up the rules as they go it seems. Can't even get a straight answer on if time is 2 for 1 or 3 for 1

She will prolly be there for 9 mos to a year since she has a couple of pending charges to clear. Any advice and rules appreciated.

Thanks to all.

Does she have a regular doctor who can show what meds she was on? You can call the jail and they will tell you when you can visit (once you are on the visit list). You can visit a max of twice a week (if i remember its for 20 min each time). they are not as bad as some county jails. Thankfully she is not in Williamson county.

Thanks. Her dr. wrote a letter that her lawyer sent with her when she was booked and she took her prescriptions with her. Didn't seem to help though. Any idea on the rules about sending books or magazines? I heard that they have to be sent directly from a vendor, not from her friends.

Hi - Welcome to PTO, its a great place!:) . First, you can send pictures, books, mags and paper must come from a vendor www.rosiesgraphics (http://www.rosiesgraphics) is very helpful, amazon.com has sources for good, cheap used books.
Medications and healthcare is a huge problem in this system. Check out the Tx General info forum, under Attrocities, Txred posted an all too common issue. When Larry was in Lubbock(very poor conditions), he went in with four filled prescriptions and Dr's orders. He didn't recieve any meds for 2 weeks. Two out the Four prescrptions cannot be stopped abruptly. He was physicaly ill from this, but did not get any medical attention. I and his family called the head nurse numerous times and were given all kinds of excuses, meds were missing, didn't have orders, etc:mad: . It was stressful, frustrating and dangerous. In tdcj it isn't much better. He has weaned himself off the two medications for depression and feels much better, but the blood pressure and cholesterol medications are hit and miss for consistency. CALL OFTEN!! The squeaky wheel.......

I'm in Austin too, and used to visit out at TCCC. Visits were one night a week (depending on their last name I believe) and either Saturday or Sunday, each time for 20 minutes (call ahead to see when it is, because if you show up at the wrong time, they won't let you in to see them!). Make sure you get there plenty early, because it does fill up fast!!!
As far as books/magazines, yes, they must be sent from a vendor. Barnes and Noble is who I sent from when my ex was there. They have a sheet of paper you can pick up at the sign in desk on how to send money to them. It's pretty specific.
About the meds, I'm not sure, because my ex wasn't on any.

Good luck-let me know if I can help any. Like TxRed said, be glad she's not in Wilco!!!
