My son did something really stupid and lost his retirement just when he finished his 20 years. He is now in Norfolk brig, but they will move him to charleston. He was told he had a good chance of getting out after 6 months (August) if his wife can put together a plan, which would include employment for him. Now, how can he do that? he has been military for 20 years and he will be an ex-felon. I am so worried about this and welcome any suggestions. All family is either here in California and cant help with jobs there or here. I welcome any suggestions. Yes, he made a stupid, stupid mistake and it cost him dearly (and his family)...please help us. I love my son. he is a good man who did a stupid thing! thanks.

Dee,
Been there, done that! (My husband has the same scenario.) Actually, my husband was in Norfolk, then moved to Charleston and they told him the same thing: he needed to have a plan of action, etc. My husband was given clemency and released after 5 1/2 months of a one year sentence. We didn't do anything over and above, and he certainly did not have a job when he left Charleston. I don't know if they saw that he and I were collaborating and getting a resume together or not, but that's about all we did. I made a resume, was able to e-mail or fax it to someone to give to him, he called me back with feedback, etc.
Good luck! I will tell you it will be okay, though. It's never easy when all you know is the military, but your brother will be fine if he puts his mind to it.
