HI, Kathy, Welcome to PTO!

Are you speaking about the legislation introduced last year to reduce mandatory time served to 65% vice 85% of the sentence?

Hi, I read about one that could give you 50% if you had an excellent behavior record and took courses or ged classes. It had 3 different catagories for early release according to what you have done while incarcerated.I read it on a virginia government website. I don't know if it has been passed or not. But it sounds good.

I can't vote there because I am a District of Columbia resident. This on going war might make them crash and burn. I just don't know...........

Especially now I feel like I'm the prisoner my mom has until feb of 2005. she has her first hearing this week i hope they release her on a medical parole or something. I just wish for every family that has a member in the system that they wouldnt have to feel like they are the criminal...

Thank you Kathy C,
You know that is how I feel my mom and i never really had a close releationship until now. she says god put her there for a reason. she says that reason is the cancer because she would have never gotten the operations nor the chemo/radiation. So thank you for all of your prayers lord knows i really need them, and i'm sure that she appreciates it as well.

Tazzy,

I would lose my head if it were not attached. Anyway, I will try to find the info the Senator McDonald's office gave me.

I just cannot seem to lay my hands on it tonight. If I can't find it I will call his office again. I've worked with his aid in the past, and should not have a problem getting the info again. Did make some calls as of the last date of my last post here. But cannot find the info tonight.

Patti: Last year this rumor about shortening the 85% to 65% was running rampant. I contacted Mr. Traylor the Public Information Officer for the Doc and he told me this rumor starts every year and that there was nothing to it. I have emailed him once again and asked if in fact there is any bill in the Congress as of this writing. I will advise this forum when I receive a reply.

Linda,

Thank You.

I had heard that last year as well. I have a call into Sen. McDonald's office. But, with the holidays, I will have to call them again week after next.

I doubt if we will ever see a reduction in time, not in VA. I dispise the state, when I can move, back to CA we go. But, these days in the justice system things are not much better in other state.

It is a pity that the politicians can dupe the people into some of these laws. Makes me wonder where the true criminals really are - the prisons or the state houses, I think the state houses!
