Have you guys ever read the ingredients of Nyquil. Unless they've changed it I think it is just foul tasting homebrew. At one point it was 19% alcohol. Not much different than taking a toddy.

Reggie, truer words have never been spoken - GA, SC as well and the bugs. The darn things are big enough to carry you away and anyone working outside in construction usually had an orange colored underwear from the reddish dirt.

I have t o vent just a little here girls. My darn monitor that I just bought the end of October by the way has all these wavie lines going through it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr So now I am going to take it back to walmart and see if I can exchange it. There is a 3 yr warrenty on the darn thing but when I called Acer they said I have to send it to them, I have to pay for shipping, then it will take 10 or so days and they will ship it back to me. I'm like um what do I do while you have my monitor? Oh well we don't have replacements. So I had bought extended warranty from Walmart on it and they said that if it were under their warrenty that I would just take it back to the store and they would replace it. So that's what I'm going to try and do take it back and get a new one. I just can't believe that I have had 2 monitors go in about 3 months times. Isn't that rediculious? LOL Ok now I've vented on that I am good to goooooooooooooo! :)

I had a club meeting tonight at my brothers bike club. They do all kinds of wonderful things for the community so when I moved home I joined. I am doing their website. That is partly what I do is website design if anyone every needs a web site designer ;) I'm the one. LOL :)
It was nice to get out. I always love being with my brother and SIL but was home by 9 pm. So here I am with all of you again. :)

I loved stuffed cabbage rolls but no one else in may family does. I was at a family reunion several years ago at the house of a 2nd cousin of my dads. It was informal with people wandering in and out. She had some turtle on the table and was pulling this huge roaster pan of stuffed cabbage out of the over. I had just told her how much I loved stuffed cabbage so she gave me a very healthy helping. I took a bite and they were the most discusting things I had ever eaten. It was like the meat was mush. I wondered afterwards if she was using soy replacement, but what do you do when you have this huge plate of food and you have told someone that you loved the dish. Fortunately for me I found myself in a hallway from the kitchen to the outside with a trash can and no one around. That stuff took a dive and I avoided 2nds. The turtle was good.

I've spent the day listening to our phone ringing and it's picking up calls. Presidential Hopefuls calling one after another with special messages for us today.

Why don't they call me during the year and tell me what's up?

One sounded monotone maximus el reading from a paper in front of him voice. Like, Mr so and so, read this and talk into this recorder quickly! It's February 5th! One sounded like President Bush in tone of voice. That was scary! I even got a call from a Sheriff from another state calling us to tell us how he endorses so and so for president. The lastest was one of the same guys calling back with recorded messages of other candidates messages saying this and that. Yow!

Not one word of what I wished to have heard. Something, Anything, anything at all, no crumb or snibble or bit about our current conditions of our Prison System. Hmph!

You too huh? I've been sick since new years eve (a little before) and just can't shake it. I've coughed so much I injured myself.. been to the er twice because of the pain in my chest. I have an appointment with my oncologist in the morning to see if I'm still in remission (fingers,toes and everything else crossed!) I hate going though.. I already cancelled once because of this illness and I don't know how long I'll have it. I don't want to expose the other patients though.. I'll just stay as far away as I can and not touch anything.

You can always go back and edit the second post Wendy. Click on "edit" than just "backspace" and erase the double post, but I think you can only edit for 1 hour.

It's always 5'oclock down here. There's been a 2 day fiesta going on for Lord knows what. I asked my hubby's employee what it was for and he answered "el cinco de febrero" He didn't even know! I had problems last night, but it was weather related not PTO. We had pretty heavy winds. It knocked out my phone lines and my dsl. They never stayed off very long at a time - just long enough to knock me off the puter. They were also strong enough to blow the back door open - which freaked out the animal life at my house. Glad that's over. It did straighen up long enough for me to get a phone call from my son - YEA.

Finally got back on here. Been trying but just wasn't working. Had to drink alone. (sigh)

It is so frightening when they suddenly disappear....it almost is liking loosing another child.

Keep your hopes that he'll come back or another will find him and take care of him. Could even end up be a few blocks away from you being taken care of.

My mums dog (teacup poodle) disapeared in a blink of an eye miles and miles away from home. Some years later my father saw it up the street being taken care of by a family. They must have found her as she was making her way back home. So it ended well after 10 years or more.

Thank you, for the warm thoughts about Rex, He was only four pounds one of those taco bell dogs I can't spell it but a minature one of those. I'm sure some has him, it was a total accident that he got out. I do hope he is well taken care of. I'll still hope, I will find him.

Wow! That's alot of ciggies per day. I hope he quits too. I tried a patch on Sunday and after all these years of being afraid to try one. It worked really great and it was the weakest one. So Im hopeful.

The hospital will give them to him I think? Hope so anyways. Does he have somebody to tend to him for awhile at home?

Yes you have a good heart. I'm sorry that upset you so much. I can understand it. We're on the outside and we can't seem to change a thing. Our kids and loved ones are in there and the courts took them away from us. Praise God we have this sanctuary for eachother.

My son said he is working in the kitchen, 34 cents a day. He's taking a computer course and was reclassified again, nothing changed. I guess his two cellmates are moving to different security levels so he gets reclassified with them as he has to get a new cellmate. He said there is a possibility of getting his own cell when they increase the closed security units because the people with the most time get the first pick.

He also addressed the visitation issue with them as the approvals are supposed to work in the whole state doc system, now they say it takes longer after you are moved. Right.

approvals to visit are slow here in PA as well. been trying to get my grandson in to see his dad since Christmas. they have not seen one another in 4 months almost.

the papers are to transfer here as well, but so far they havent and we keep filling in new ones with no luck. March is my magic target for my grandson to see his dad.

My form went in the week before Christmas so I would imagine that is where the first slowdown occurred.

My extras aren't for side affects. Well, I guess in a way they are. Like one depletes my calcium so I have to take calcium to keep the levels up. Told me it would be better if I ate and drank stuff with calcium. Do you know what it takes to get 1500 mg of calcium a day?

Hola! I haven't been on in ages, hubby got home Monday night, and was still as sick as a dawg. He's been home ever since, so my puter time is niltch. I did try to get on earlier, and thought I'd freak when I saw there was a glitch. Had to try back one more time and check on my girls, can't stay on. After being gone for 2 weeks and home sick, well you all know the rest of the story. Don't forget me, I'll be back God willing and PTO permitting, as soon as I can. HOLA, again. I've been going nuts not getting on here. Hubby has been home sick all week. He's not used to being around the house except on weekends and every time I leave the room he wants to know where I'm going. Never seen him be such a big baby. We finally went to the doc's on Thurs. and he's on the mend. Still at home, but not quite as clingy, misery loves company. I hear ya....I've had good times in between the drama of the unit my son is in. Thank goodness my hubby is so loving and understanding.... he's my Angel. :) Hope yours is feeling better, you are always in my thoughts and prayers....we miss you, though we understand....it just AIN'T the same without our Wendy!!!!!!

Thank God and Greyhound, he's just walked out the door. Still weak, but mobile. He's always been my supportive, loving angel too, but not having my girls most of the week left a void I couldn't fill.

I'm glad to hear you were able to have some good times while hubby has been on leave. When I'm at my worst moments, I feel sorry for mine. He's used to coming home to a happy place and is so glad to get here. This prison ride has rocked his world too. Bless your hubby, it can't be easy for him, either to see you suffering the way you are right now. I wish there was something I could say or do to ease your worrying, but I know only too well, it will take good news from your son's unit to do that.

It's 4 o'clock and it's hittin' time. I'm only having aa couple, I swear. Don't want to ruin a good thing. Got all my domestic chores done, great meal going, I even baked a sugar free pumpkin pie! Oh, and I did windows. When we downsized houses, I let my maid go, Lordy do I miss her. I decided the money I paid her, I could send to my son. We moved in July, I got notice of my son's predic. the same month, and she just got notice. Hated it, but we aren't the Trumps.

So, I kicked out all the windows years ago, I killed the pumkin patch, and the furniture has learned to blend in with the dust quite well. It's the "Making Housework Simpler" method. There's a manual on ebay. Oh no need to order it. I just splained it all. ha! Oh if you have any other rooms than the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, you nail all the doors shut and ignore them. (remove all lifeform from them first)

That's what I did all week Bless'um. I have off white tile floors though, and there's no slamming doors on that. It's up in ya' face. I just made housework simpler, by simply doing it, finally. This house is very unforgiving, I can't let the floors go more than 1 day without mopping, or it looks like it should be condemned. The bouganvillia leaves blow in. They are so beautiful on the outside, but what a pain when they blow inside. House is spotless, not a maid in sight. I usually keep it that way, but with a living corpse on the couch for a week, things got baaaaad!

Oh Wendy that meal sounds absolutely delicious!!!

Picturing Reggie running all over in the kitchen gathering ingredients fast as she can, looking over her shoulder to read the screen on this monitor and finding a big pot, filling it water, balancing that across the room to the stove and reaching for pasta sauce cans with the other hand and uses her foot to open the bottom cabinet to find the lid to the pot. Flips the lid up in the air and catches it with her head. Her other foot grabs the can opener and swiftly opens the can. The water boils while she mixes up the sauce in another bowl and stirs that into another pan while cutting up some garlic and onions. Then over to the fridge to search for an avacado, peels and and slaps the skins onto her face.

OH the visual! haha!

mmmm Reg. that salad sounds absolutely scrumptious. would go w/ the chicken soup my hubby made in the crockpot. i am making some corn muffins from scratch too ! snowed some last nite, may again tonite. we'll see.

my son was called into the counselor's office to sign some tax forms. that was good. what was bad was the CO who took him to the office. the counselor told him to sit, the CO demanded he stand. my son stood so as not to P.O. the CO. why they play these power games I do not know. my son always obeys the COs and does not need to be treated like a dog.
so some days you just want to take a hike and forget it all.

I am saying Peb is on a hike. she is happily painting her house. she is taking a break.

Have you guys ever read the ingredients of Nyquil. Unless they've changed it I think it is just foul tasting homebrew. At one point it was 19% alcohol. Not much different than taking a toddy.


Hello, I was just reading around on the forum, and found this....I have to say YES to you question....about 8 years ago, I worked at the Ritz Union at the UF or maybe its been longer...but anyways, we had this janitor who kept asking me to borrow 5 bucks and going to the restroom (being a supervisor) or couse I would let him go and he was really an old man and I loved him to death he did no harm.....he would buy at the store below...a whole bottle of that nyquil....and would drink it in the rest-room....and ya know he still did his job. I thought it was funny, but students had to say this and that...ole well...that was a long time ago...I quess he had his own problems.....but he was a good fellow...again that was a long time ago....your message just brought up memories....

Hey O, I see we're in for some more nasty weather....from FL all along the coast to NY..... me no like these scury storms!

It only rained here for about an hour. Of course it was when everyone was coming home from work. Wasn't to bad. Hopefully we are done now.

Yea, didn't get what they said here either. That means tomorrow when we think the coast is clear (no pun intended, heehee) it will pour down all at once! :)

Update: I am still helping my cousin in Philadelphia with her hubby. He's home from the hospital now and the doctors made a house call today to check on him and were very pleased with the care he receives at home. He's a quadraplegic, vent-dependent at night, aphasic, has had several strokes and is a shell of the mad-man he used to be! LOL He was a wild and crazy guy!!! A fall from a ladder and a foolish doctor who sent him to a chiropractor for adjustments to his neck for an unsteady gait (walk) only to find he had a broken neck months after the fall -- resp arrest -- etc., etc., and here he is. Life is very fragile. If I've learned anything from all of this it's to be persistent with physicians when you continue to have problems and the docs brush you off --- and to have patience and kindness 24/7. My cousin is an inspiration to me. I've never witnessed such devotion and compassion and professionalism. She's not a nurse, but she deserves an honorary R.N. for what she has learned about caring for him. Who knows how long he'll survive, but a man going through half as much as he has would have given up long ago, but not this guy! Nope! He's a survivor!

Nathan calls me once a week. He said they have a new zealous warden at his Camp (Kitwen) and the new warden is making it a little rough on them. I suggested he keep his head down and his mouth shut and let the warden get tired and worn out and maybe things would get better. He needs to get a job, but they're hard to come by.

I'll go home in 2 weeks and that will be good. The winter will be behind me and I'll have lots to look forward to - like visiting our son, opening our pool, blah blah blah. ;)

Hello Mary! How we miss you! Awe, YOUR my inspiration! What a Blessing you are! :) Of course cousin's hubby is doing so well, he's got the 2 best nurses in Philly! My hubby is a medic and works in a clinic, he says the same thing you do. Be persistent and ask questions. Oh and Nathan, good advice to him. The new Warden will calm down once he proves what ever he thinks he is, LOL. Hey once it warms up, we're hopping on Jancy's bus and hanging out at your place pool side! Awe, I can see it now.....feet hanging over the side, sipping on a fruity (potent) drink, snacking of course...oh yea, and NO swim suit for me! well, so yesterday morning on way to work, the 'check engine' light came on (again). wasn't happy w/ the way it was running. usually the light comes on every so often w/ no reason no probs. but decided to call dealer and take car in on way home from work. so I am sitting there in the waiting room.. crotcheting and the gal comes and says they want me in the garage. so I go out there and low and behold. .. .. a rodent nest on the engine.!!!!!! :eek:
car all better will pick it up tonite. took a pic because I knew hubby would be skeptical of it. what a trip. heard about that but never imagined in my own vehicle.

:faint: Oh my goodness D'Gal! EEEEEEEWWWWWWWW and all that time your riding along with it, (shivers), I've gotten to where I can't stand a bug anymore. Course GA has the BIGGEST darned bugs I ever saw, and I came from Tx, so those are some big bugs! :eek: Thank goodness it was not a major repair though!

My sister got them in her camper engine. She had winterized it and when she got it out in spring they had quite a nice little home. Unfortunately they had also chewed up a bunch of wiring and stuff so it was very costly for her. She was thankful they didn't get inside the camper too.

we live in a 5th wheel and I usually don't mind (too much) regular ol spiders, but we have one called the "wolf spider" UGH hate them. and they always get in trailer and always seem to come right for me. not hubs, me. hate them things w/ a passion. sometimes they get in the car too. I will be driving to work and one will come up from the vent @ windshield and run across dashboard. hubby flips @ my responses - says "if you dont control this you are gonna have an accident." can't help it - they freak me out.

we get the racoons on roof every nite. even one sounds like a herd of elephants ! one time hubby left cat food on screened porch. woke up to a bunch of noise. there were like 4 or 5 of them trying to get in the porch to the food. hubby had to go out & shoosh them and bring cf in.

we have javelina too.
and the coyotes for a while were getting so brave they would come into the park in broad daylight. one day a few were right by our 5th wheel and hubby took a slingshot and winged one. they haven't come back in park.

Nope, around here they come up to the house to eat the dog food. Course the squirrels do that too. Haven't been doing it as much lately. The puppy isn't as lazy as the older dogs.

I know what those wolf spiders are, I would wreck for sure or jump out of the car, moving or not! EEEWWW! Hate spiders too. My son lost his whole finger tip, (nail and all) from a brown recluse (sp) bite. :no: NO NO NO don't like ANY spiders! We live by a marsh and surrounded by big beautiful trees but my goodness all the critters and bugs and spiders! :eek:

Spiders, yuck! Have spiders everywhere here. In the house it's a daily thing to knock down the webs. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Don't usually get the spiders in the car, just once in a while. Get the stupid lizards in the car. They just scare the hay outta ya when they suddenly run across your lap. Ugh.

OMG I have a HUGE lizard problem in my apartment! Can't stand them either, and there is hole up on the roof we keep complaining about because the lizards are getting in and landing on the skylight upstairs. But so are the wasps now, and somehow, both are making their way down stairs to my kitchen light. ??? They can't get out, but I don't appreciate sitting here with wasps flying around in there, like the one now as we speak. HMPH!

A lizard in the car ! how the heck do they get in ? I can understand a yucky pider in the car. once had a grasshopper get in and was on my leg. i was driving & let out a yelp. hubby about freaked on me.

I get these silly wrens that insist on making their nests in the oddest places. Got one that made it's nest on the ledge right inside the door of the shed. Now everytime I go in the shed I get attacked.

Oh my ladies, you all need to move to Mexico, there isn't anything that doesn't get eaten by one thing or another. We have spiders, but they don't bother me. When we were in San Miguel, we had scorpions which freaked out my 6'2" hunk of a husband, and he always sent me after them! He would holler "Honey Honey look!" and I'd be all over it without even thinking. He took a lot of teasing afterward, to which he said "you are the killer in the family." It's true, if I see it and it's not paying the bills, it's gone!

I like the spanish moss on the trees, and the pine trees. I grew up in Colorado transplanted to TX in 89, so I love all the green around me again. Texas....not so pretty. :shake: heeheehee

I grew up in the Bahamas Reg, and had a horse boarded at a stable. The roaches that are already like O described, used to get into the sweet feed and became robo roaches. One day, when it got cold enough to put the blanket on my horse, I pulled it down from the rafter in the tack room. The inside was lined with roaches trying to stay warm, they were all over me. It was like one of those horror movies, I couldn't get them off. I think that's the only time in my life I have ever screamed like that, and I had a dozen people there in a heartbeat thinking someone was dying! I was only 14 or 15 at the time, but I'll never live long enough to forget that. I still shudder at the thought!

one more thing about lizards,I live on a farm,here in ga,there is NOTHING i havnt seen,some of the biggest rattle snakes ever,and possums,you name it,but im not anywhere near as scured{reg],OF ANY OF THAT ,AS I AM OF A D---- LIZARD,and that is bad,cause we have alot,the garden and alll,,,,uhhh

goodness gracious! the big thing I am scared of here is centipedes and they are never more than about two inches long. I have heard of reaaaly big ones.

Talk about insects, It was nearing Holloween, I had just bought the cutest pumpkin pattern to make for my son, a bee flew in the car window, I picked up the package with the pattern inside to shoo the bee out, instead I threw the pattern right out the window:eek: .

So we moved to Tucson, Arizona from Michigan - like going to a different planet for me! I immediately enrolled in college there and since we had one car and no bus stop nearby, hubby would drop me off at 7:30am and pick me up about 5pm. Needless to say, I had a 4.0 GPA that first semester there, but I was ."always exhausted when I got home. Like any other day, I quick ran for the bathroom with the snail mail and was sitting on 'the throne' and there's a knock at the bathroom door -- one of my sons (age 12) who quietly says: "Ummm.....Mom??....one of our snakes is missing from the aquarium." Me: :eek: :eek: :eek: What? Calmly I jumped off the throne and quickly checked to see if anything 'wrong' was in the commode......or on the floor........or in the tub.......and screamed: What do you mean 'it's missing'?????:eek: :confused: :fb: :argh: :shake: :faint: Find that snake and don't stop until you do!!!!!!!!! and come and tell me when you've found it. I'll be in here reading."

Well....an hour or so passes......and what do you know? It had indeed crawled into a dark, damp, and smelly place: son's sneaker!!! Phew! From then on, we had a rule about what they could bring home besides 'spinys, spiders, snakes, insects.' Then one day our son brought home a new find. He caught it out in the desert and brought it home in a paper box on the bar of his bike: A gila monster. Oy!!

I couldn't wait to move back to Michigan (or any where in the midwest) that only had skeeters the size of crows. LOL

Oh not the snakes Mary! I lived in a condo in CA. and my son had a pet snake. It went missing and we couldn't find it anywhere. About 3 days later I heard a gut wrenching scream from not directly under me, but next door to that. She had run outside, and before she had a chance to say anything, I knew she had found the snake. She was a friend and I ran out there begging her to be quiet, and had to drag her back in her house. I didn't want anyone else knowing it was our snake, and that it was loose. I collected my sons snake, but the next time it got loose, it turned on me when I went to get it bit me. Do I even need to finish this. I told my son to take it down to the lake, that we lived over, and set it free or I will........... and flush it. It was the son that is locked up and he loved that snake, I feel badly now. I told him then, the minute you bite the hand that feeds you, you are out. He was greatful I let it live, but sad to let it go. Good Lord that brought back some memories Mary. I'm not sure whether to say thanks alot, or alot o' thanks for that!

we too lived in the desert of California where my son and nephews always seemed to find something to bring home. but the best was, one of our cats one night brought in a LIVE bat. it was so funny. my hubby is 6'4" and the house we lived in was lower than the norm. so he props open the front door, hunches over and is trying to shoosh this bat out of the house. well kitty jumps up and nails that bat w/ all 4 feet. on her way down, hubby grabs her & tosses both out. bat flew away.

Hysterical D'gal! I pictured that, what a way to clean house! I have no bat stories, thank goodness. They are flying rodents and Wendy don't do rodents. Oh I would have died!

oh my cat was always getting baby bunnies...so one day i see it in the woods with something looks like a Bunnie...so i go out there to save the little critter...cat lets go and dang thing runs up my leg!!!!!!!!!!!! then in my jacket you know they type with the elastic cuff. i'm doing the dizzy blond dance trying to shake this thing......not a rabbit they do not climb!!!!!! omg what is it critter out...it flys out...now mind you there are tress all over ..and the thing runs at me again!!!!!!!!!! it's got huge eyes i run it hits a tree runs up then flyyyyyyysssssss to next one...it was a flying squirrel

ok i grew up in north west tip of nj... we had a huge black bear population... this one big guy loved to hang around...there were horses up the street and it would steal the sweet feed.. any ways here i am minding my own business...scooping poop tossing in the wooded area ....fling... next thing i know i hear my husband voice from the back bedroom window..wow would you look at the size of that bear!!!!!!!!!!!!! there i stood almost nose to nose ..with my only defense a tin scooper with wooden handles. and dog poop inside.. i froze ...the thing just wandered slowly along on it's little ol way...guess where the husband stayed...you guessed it in the house...

yikes. several yrs ago, when my hubby, youngest daughter & I headed up to N Calif for one of my sons graduation, we camped over night @ Yosemite. there have been some probs w/ bears. well, my hubby had borrowed a gun from a friend before trip and had that in tent under his pillow. sometime after we 'sleeping' (as if) my daughter whispers "mom r u asleep ? No, why ,,, she says... you wanna go sleep in the van. OK. so my hubby wakes up in the morning & we aren't there. He says why are you in the van ? duh

;) ;) bears do not bother me much...now snakes.....and things i can't see in the water and tall grass stuff....:eek:

:faint: I would def faint if I saw a bear like that! And that scooper would come in handy too! :D D'Gal, I went camping up in the Mountains in CO with my friend and her family, I too ended up in the van! :p

ok,one more if you can stand it,when i was about ten or so,my mother left my father and we went down to jesup ga to stay with grn&pa scott,well i really didnt like my mother for that as i was and still am a daddys girl,well every chance i got to pee off my mother i took it,my cousin and i had been playing in the woods,we found a green snake,she held it captive and i ran back to the house and found a big coffie can ,we put that snake in that can and went back to the house ,i went inside to show moma,she was on the toilet,i lifted the plastic lid and all hell broke loose after that,granny and pa both got me then,and need i say more,thats where the word whuppin came from,they made it up.that was a fun summer though.

Hubby and I were in our mid-30s and belonged to a Newcomer's Club. There were many different groups with common interests, but the best times were when we'd all get together in a rented hall, hire a DJ, and dance (and drink) and dance some more. At one of the more festive functions, I wore a navy and white flowered, floor-length quiana dress (sp? but it was like a silk, but did not wrinkle) But it was very form fitting in the bodice and flared beautifully from the hips to the floor, so I stuffed myself into one of those one-piece girdle jobs with the slit crotch for peeing, right??? Biiiiiiig mistake. Well, I went into the bathroom stall and was holding up all the dress and slip and trying to hold the split open to pee and I think: "How come I don't HEAR the pee hitting the water?" OHHHH NOOOO.....the dress was in the commode!!! I'm cussin' a little and the gal friends are asking me 'what's wrong???'.....I said, "oh you don't wanna know." So I backed myself up to the bathroom sink and washed the dress out and being that the fabric was so beautiful, I knew it would air dry quickly after a few dances.....and because it was navy and white, it wouldn't show that it was wet.

I return to the dance floor and begin to dance and twirl (yup, back then, I could twirl) and one of the other men began dancing with me and when the song was over, he took my hand and pulled me to his table and was going to sit me on his lap. My g'ness!!! What do I do??? I said, "yanno, Bob, that might not be such a good idea right now...." but before I said anything more, he pulled me on his lap and he was wearing khaki trousers. I didn't say a word. His eyes got really big! I mean, really wide open bigggggg........and I said, "...I tried to warn you...." and I stood up to see his lap all wet. "Ummm....sorry, Bob." And what does Bob say? "That's what I like. A woman who responds to you!" His wife looked at his lap and looked at me and I was redder than Snow White's apple! I just walked away and pretended like nothing happened and it wasn't me! ROFL

Oh boy --- those were the good ole' days. When life seemed so easy and friends were the first to laugh with you and at you and you didn't care! Ahhhhhh....... what a night that was.

OMG your not kidding! Our complex is on a huge beautiful piece of land. Anyway so our apt is way to the back, surrounded by trees. (which I love, minus all the *pollen) So the other day this guy is out there staring, hm, go out, see what's going on, since we're the last apt. he's basically in our front yard. He says that tree fell and the tree in front of it is holding it up. EEEK! Had the other tree not caught it, straight into my upstairs window!

Hey Mary, still going through the paces today. My hubby would be unable to grip this and have several people on the phone. That never helps down here, like you said, get over it. The good thing is, with all the work they are doing, they are turning this place into an absolute paradise. The last city I lived in was all old colonial, cobble stone streets, and this one so Miami Vice, and only 30 miles apart. The architecture is unbelievalby modern, and I can wait out the inconviences for the cause. They are beautifying the area, and I'm pretty good with that.

I think this is a great organization. I've read where they are the ones to thank for literally proving innocent men were wrongfully convicted and on D.R., and thanks to the innocent project, they have since been exonerated. God Bless these people who give so much time, resources, and their own money to save these lives.

Hello everyone, I have missed ya'll!!!! Well it's been so much fun these last 24 hours, :shake: tornado's, thunderstorms, oh and a black out.....lost power around 9:30 last night, didn't come back up til about 10 a.m. this morning. Hubby was on staff duty, but thank goodness, here, he gets to stay at home, (not having to stay on post) but with a pager for the clinic he works at. :banghead: That thing went off so many times for the alarms going off at the clinic, and at one point hubby had to go up there. Don't you know as soon as he does, they sound the sirens for the tornado in our area, literally. :eek: I'm in my pantry, which is under the staircase, sipping (ok, so guzzling cause I'm so scared) rum and coke, with a flash light, and just praying my hubby is alright driving out there. So, he makes it back, stupid pager still going off, the tornado turns about 3 miles away and goes off to the ocean, :clap: hubby finally stops getting paged, and we finally get to sleep around 2 a.m. :bow: :sleepy: I'm a happy camper........6 a.m. PAGED AGAIN! :slap: And the fun starts all over.... :rolleyes: All is well now, whew, and hubby turned the fun over to the next staff duty victim at 10 a.m., he's snoring as we speak. I should wake him. :D :p :hee:

duchgirl...i used to love the winter skiing n all..but 8 years in the south has changed my idea of cold . the old bones just feel the chill easier not that i am getting old ;) just my bones are ageing faster then my mind

age. boy I hear that. I love being in the sun and soaking up the heat in these old bones. helps the arthritis. it is hard sitting in air condition office too. makes me hurt ... I oft times even use little heater under desk... winter & summer.

I said my hubby likes the cold.... get this.... he works at rv park where we live, he drives an open golf cart.... in winter/ snow, he is always in shorts. !!! :eek:

I love the sun too. IT helps my old bones too. ;) I have fibro and it really helps to soak up that sun. I like the tanning booths in the winter but where I'm at now it's to far to get to one with gas prices the way they are so I really miss that light in my bones. :)

D'gal, women wear skirts or dresses during snow and some of them can be very short. I guess if you look at it that way what is the difference in skirts or shorts? I have been known to wear sandals or flip flops in the snow. If it's deep enough and they act as snow scoops then I dig out diff shoes.

several yrs ago, hubby and I and 2 friends went to disneyland. not our 1st time by any means, but my gf - she was very gullible and her 1st time on ride..Pirates of the Carribean. so we go on this ride and in the beginning is this 'old man sitting in rocker on the bijou smoking his pipe and a bunch of twinkle lights representing fire flys. so I tell my gf that those are trained fireflys. "really ? wow.. how do they get them to stay & not fly away".. I give her this line about tying real thin delicate thread to their tiny legs . "oh wow" this goes on for most of the ride. finally she hears a stiffled laugh and turns around to where our hubbys are behind us & both are hanging out trying to hold in this laughter. not to mention all the other people. she looks at me and says "uh uh" . I could not believe how well I tricked her. now when I try to tell her something, she will say "oh yeah like trained fireflys".

she isn't as gullible as back then. but she is fun.

They do have a kick that is for sure...but they are so yummy. Butterscotch schnapps is one of my favorites. Hubby and I ski and it is in our flask a lot. Not just for sipping on the lift but also for putting in the coffee or hot chocolate when we take a break.

Butterscotch schnapps does sound good. Something else to flavor the coffee with too. Does it work over ice cream?

Shuttle just landed. Sonic booms startled me so much my puter fell off my lap and the dogs scattered every which way.

We used to live in an area where the airforce and navy would do flyovers because the terrain was a lot like vietnam. Lots of sonic booms then. We lived in a log cabin and they would knock the chinking out of the walls. My Dad who was living with us at the time always said he was going to send Washington a bill to get it fixed LOL

perque.. yeah my mom used to live in S calif near a base, and right in the landing pattern at that. and she lived in a Mobile Home. first time I went to visit there, all her pictures were crooked and I thought gee mom.. later at another time I spent the night there,,, about fell off the couch !! :eek:

O... several years ago, larry and I were camping and hiking here at one of our 'mountains' . as we were just getting back from a walk, I heard this loud noise like a plane in trouble. THERE IT IS it flew over us, barely over the treetops... I kept thinking why does it look so funny... oh my... it was the shuttle piggyback. what a trip. the only time I ever 'saw' it in person. other than tv. sure wish i had had camera in hand.

I have sneaked back in while they are talking cars, it's amazing how glamorous the vehicle names can sound in Spanish. Hubby wants to buy a new Nitro, don't freaking ask me who makes it, he's told me a thousand times, but I'm not a car person. Anyway, tonight it is pronounced "neetro" roll the "r". My whole life I wanted to learn another language. At 38 I learned Spanish, now I'm fluent, but when it's almost the only thing you speak, it goes back to that old saying of "be careful of what you ask for" I'm so bored of it. I have to do all the translating for my friends for doctors appointments, etc., but mostly doctors appts.! It's not what I had in mind. That's my beef today, since I've been on the phone most of the day on behalf of friends that never learned Spanish! I'm still waiting for a call back from a chiropractor, to relay. Yeah, life is good.

O, the closest thing I get to the shuttle flying over, which must be exciting to say the least, is the earthquakes in Mexico City! I'm just not myself tonight, I'm bored and I want one of perques drinks, I don't care which one.

D'gal, that is hysterical! I have seen movies that show apartments or houses right next to an overhead railroad track, or "el" that remind me of what you just described. When we first moved to San Miguel, we ended up renting this house that I thought was such a good deal. It was enormous and very impressive. It had 2 indoor atriums, a built in bar, everything you could ever want in a house, including a guest house. Exclusive neighborhood, but at the bottom. We figured out the first night we were there, why it hadn't sold, and why the owner jumped on my offer of a $100 a month less than what he was asking! Not only did the windows rattle in the wee hours. The trains started blowing their horn for a half mile before and after our area, to scare off any cattle that were on the tracks! I felt like Scarlett O'Hara moving in there! I was a hag in about 3 days! We did get used to it, except when the glass felt like it was going to pile in on us, but our company never slept a wink!

We each have to do what's best for ourselves - I really believe that. If we don't save our energy, or keep some of it in reserve, we get washed out, we get burned out - and then we're not our best for anyone! and we're especially not best for ourselves. (I always wonder: Who saves the lifeguards?)

Take all the time you need. The only gardening I could do would follow shoveling the snow off the flower beds and I don't do that...... So tonight we are going to daughter's to celebrate my oldest grandson's 20th birthday. I can't believe he's 20!!! What a great kid he is -- err..... MAN, he is. I saw him born and gave him his very first kiss. What an exciting night that was! He's given so much joy to the family. I think we'll get him a batch of lottery tickets and hope he wins something big to sock away. And tomorrow I'm taking gr/d to the movies to see the Dr. Zeuss movie w/ Jim Carrey. And I plan on eating popcorn! yup! lots of popcorn!

BF and I have been together 5 yrs. He was the man who paid off my sons fines and got him out of jail two yrs ago. he then employed him at his business and made him work it off, after that he helped him in every way a real father should. he visits him in prison and continues to father him.

two yrs ago BF and I started living together in two seperate houses. I am terrified of marriage. I had been married at 18 to my first real BF, and spent nearly 32 yrs in a long horrid trap with him. he was verbally abusive to me and my sons, hit walls, kicked cars, threatened to burn the house down, oh I could go on and on about the terror he caused.

I stayed because I am catholic and thought I should. in time I went to a retreat at a monastery to help sort out things. I came home and threw out my son who was deep into drugs. I told my husb counseling or out. thru a series of psychological appts, my then husb was finally DX as schizophrenic, passive aggressive and chronic depression with anorexia. he refused meds or help and I divorced. I sat and cried two yrs while I processed my annulment. meanwhile my ex was committed to a mental hosp and went on psych disability as he starved himself nearly to death. he has rare contact with my sons now.

at a Christian singles grp I met BF> he had been in a 24 yr marriage to his childhood sweetheart. she left for a lawyer..go figure.

three yrs later we decided to move in together but we each own homes. he decided to sell his and then the market went sour. it finally sold!! he is moving here but really wants to build a log cabin home one day.

ok so that was the long version but I felt I needed to 'splain living together without being married. sigh. I have a phobia of marriage now. after I had filed for divorce my ex stalked, threatened folks around me, and I had a Protection from Abuse order, even so he violated that. he made me know I cannot fully commit by marriage, I want to know I can be free if I so choose.

I have always been intrigued by log homes. I know only 2 people who have them and they are gorgeous!

I saw a joke circulating in email about what we're looking for in a man at different ages and stages of our lives...... and thought the one about a woman in her 70s looking for a man who can find the toilet and hit it square on as a great FIND, well I can well imagine that's how I'll be!

We were with some friends a few years ago at a lake cabin their family had. They fixed his wife and I a drink they called PJ's. All I can remember about them was it had fruit coctail and a 190 proof alcohol along the lines of Everclear. The fruit soaked up the alcohol. Drinking them was like drinking a really yummy fruit juice and when you hit the fruit OMG that drink hit like a bomb. We were sitting on the floor peeling potato's thinking we were doing such a good job. The peelings were about an inch thick. We probably wasted more of the potato than we saved. About 15 minutes after the bottom of that drink the bed was calling my name big time.

Ladies, it has been 95 degrees here all day, this is insane, we normally start getting cool weather in March, never got it and it is sweltering. We are used to pretty much spring time weather year round with a cool snap in March. This is just unheard of. I haven't closed my windows in over a week, and the last 3 nights we've had to sleep with a fan on. At 5 thirty, it is now 5 fifty, it was still 95 degrees. This is a strange year all the way around!

I had this happpen once over traffic, and wasn't able to be bailed because I lived in Mexico, and gave that address They shipped me around and I saw some of the finer sights of LA county's best. I was there 4 days, but on the upside. They knew I was really distressed worrying about deportation, I'm English, not American, and that's what they were trying to do was to deport me back to England! Well one of the guards brought me Mickey D's for breaksfast in hopes I would eat. I did my best to choke it down, just because someone cared enough to do it. I wasn't deported, I was allowed to come home to Mexico, and I rarely look back. Not good times justadeb, not good times.

no not good times at all.i was held in the booking area most of the time because they had just brought in 3 van loads of ill immigrants. ..sorry erased some of this because i am sure it would be recognized by someone who works at that facility if i gave full details

It's going to take you a while to get over this deb, it did me. I was a stay at home mom of five when this happened and I drove over the border to go and see my hubby for his birthday, he was doing a job in CA. I was shackled up with ladies coming from prison that had other court dates, some for murder. When it came time for us to get on the elevator, I hopped on like I was going to the white sale at Macy's. They knew the drill and faced the back, nose to wall. The most humiliating time of my life it's a birthday I'll never forget. They were so adament about deporting me. If that had happened, how was I going to get home? I had a home, and it wasn't CA, not even the US. This is bringing up some bad memories, even hubby and I don't talk about it.

WELL,this might just make you both feel like you are not the LONE RANGER,when my son went to prison the first time,i was locked up too,but not the same thing as him,it was hindering a wanted felon,hell yes im guilty,and i would do it again,my son had been shot at with over two dozen rounds,and he would have been shot if he had been caught in the heat of the moment,because those cops and det,were mad and they wanted blood

justadeb, I too have gone through somethings that I don't talk about, it is what has made me the open hearted Christian that I am today. We all go through things, some more terrible than others, but all the same terrible. I have grown from each and every obstacle that has come my way. Maybe it is better that you are older when this one comes. See, you know the system, make it work for you. When you do show up to court, make sure you are smartly dress, head clear and ready to address the judge on whatever charge you are facing, find out any program that you eligible for. You have such a wonderful support group right here at you fingertips.
I have been blessed with the sight of knowing when I being blessed, and know when I am blocking my blessing. So girl you use us for support, let us help you get through this, and then you can take care of your boy. God Bless you, and I'll be praying it works out for you.

afternoon folks,thank you for all your support.i have no idea how i am dealing. with this all..the effexor really works is all i can say. so far it looks like the DA. will drop the charges on me but i am still scared as all git up right now...i am glued to the local court web sight waiting for them to post the dropped closed or any other type thing that makes me feel safe to breath.....the pcs in court house were down yesterday i heard.. is that luck or what.

I guess yesterday (missed it) they were talking about the overloaded prison system. today, they were talking about how some prisons, don't remember where, but several states all the way to Calif. were thinking of just turning some people loose..if they have 20 or less months to go on their sentence. anyone here about any of this ?

Yes, but it's not necessarily as simple as that. They are discussing therapy programs for addictions etc as alternatives. It's not really due to prison overcrowding as much as it is economic issues and the cost of incarceration in a tough economy. CA was one I remember mentioned as having a real crunch (surprise) and KY was another.

ahh thank you tigrldy - I was only catching a little of what they were talking about. that helps. lets pray they decide to do some programs that will allow some to come home early.

I too had trouble with my sons' dad. for a time I thought he would kill me. I had to get a PFA. he stalked for four years after our divorce. he tortured my sons mentally.

then again...freedom does come in time. I am very free and happily so. you will once again feel safe, woman!

deb, did someone say domestic violence, girl I could write a book on it. I went to that forum once, I did not find the love that I have here. In fact I felt like I was cheating on the girls when I was there, so I just came on back home. When I tell you I know what you are going through, believe me, I have been there. I wrote a time line on on of the threads, I guess you have to find all post or threads started by me. I hope it all works out for you. I will keep you in my prayers.

I keep missing my sweet Bless'um! I can't seem to get here at the same time. I'm keeping a close watch on the CA situation too. I hop from one forum to the other trying to get updates. Everything was going so smoothly for a while! I don't know how long this will last at my boy's prison, there was a post from a LT. there, saying it may be awhile. In the mean time, they all go to chow at the same time, and all in yard at the same time, that's 2200 inmates at the same time. I'm sure they know what they are doing. In the mean time, no classes, and all is chaos, and aging this mom. How are things at your boy's facility? This is all so frightening. Maybe this time next year, we will be seasoned vets! It doesn't sound as though this is the first time, but it is for us. Keeping you and your boy in prayer Bless'um. Lord knows we all need it right now.

myboysmom, I had to laugh at the post, how you feel like you are cheating by going to another forum! Priceless! I know what you mean about not feeling the love in other forums. There seems to be a lot of "romanticism" going on, that doesn't apply to our boys and us. I can sure tell you though, I'm grateful for the ones pertaining to my boy's situation right now. The ladies are well informed, and I'm spending quite a bit of time there at present. I guess we all need a little cyber "schmorgasborg" every now and then!

Hey Deb & Jancy, enjoying your little gab session. :) With all the kids I've had through the years I've taught myself to cut hair, cornrow, etc. I bought so many hair supplies from Sallys Beauty Supplies that they though I was a beautician. I'm the one around here that always needs a haircut. Just don't have the nerve to cut my own.

I had the sweetest hair dresser. She was so cute and made you feel so special when she cut your hair. She was killed in a car accident about 2 years ago and I know I'll never find someone as caring as she to do my hair so I'm just letting it go.

motherj, I actually have cut my own hair for years and years and colored it as well. My hair went white soo soon! so I go 4 X a year to a male hairdresser and he yells at me for hacking it off. hey I cannot afford those pricey do's! I used to pull it on top of my head in a pony tail, and cut that off for a shag look.LOL

I love my hairdresser, he is very sweet, he makes my hair look great. last time I went in December, I promised him I would not cut it myself....LOL

You sound like my Kathy. I was glad she could give a terrific haircut, but more important was how she made me feel inside. She was so sweet to my foster daughters when they got their hair done for dances. She would make them feel like movie stars.

Jancy, Craig's List also has the cheapest airline tickets, we have booked through there the last few times. He has his fingers in alot of pies! I just got back from court and wanted to share this with ya'll

My annual visit to traffic court for speeding. As I am sitting there I noticed the Judge was very kind and pleasant. He had a case from jail via camera. The Judge asked the Mom to come up so she could see her son.

He asked the son do you want to say anything to your Mom, they both exchanged "I love yous". The Judge then said he wanted the son to see his mom and visa versa.

Well.... I am sitting there crying my eyes out. Don't you know I am next. I fumbled myself up there and started babbling how the Judge was such a kind man and how he blessed me. He laughed and said I am sorry I can't get you out of this. I plead guilty and continue saying how kind he was.

As I was leaving.... the Judge called me back and said,"Thank you your words meant a lot today", I have a pretty big case load. I just want to treat everyone as I would like to be treated.

I was blown away.... I so wanted to say Judge I am a Mother whose son is in prison. I know many many mothers like me who would have been blessed today by your kindness.

Maybe.... I will write a Letter to the Editor.... of course I better pay that speeding ticket off first.

last ticket i had was a set up!
ok another funny story, i went to dr. on my way home i noticed gas price went way up in a hr..so i notice one place that was low i drove past it turned around..now i never go to this place because it is horrid to get out into highway....i fill up. go to stop sign..two police cars are making a left into the same gas station i just left..i let them go and make a left turn... next thing i know...sirens lights..oh no what in the world!!!!!!!
i pull over to let the police go... nope he pulls in behind me... walks up to me tells me i took a illegal left hand turn... say what???????? why in the world would i do that in front of two police cars i tell him???? i said i am blond but i sure can read traffic signs and i didn't see a no left hand turn sign... ok he gives me a ticket.... i go back to gas station.. yup there it is.. the sign.. but let me tell you the only way you see it is if you drive straight down that road... not pull out of gas station it sits behind you... so i take pics..go to court... and you guessed it.. they dropped the charges.. but make me pay a fine..... it was a trap and they knew it.. if i exited from the gas station driveway i would be able to make a left ..but the other side nope no left.. they finally changed it after i ran my mouth off to the road department for months...now there's no mistake there's a concrete divider. in the middle with a no left turn sign. i guess my fine money paid for it.

Oh Reg, I didn't give up your secret when the one I was talking about was "too cute" I guess we see oursleves differently I guess. Thanks for the compliment, and soooo happy to see you here.

Well ladies, I swear this is true,,,,,,,,,,,, I'm on my way to take my foster child for a family visit. There are two teenagers, 2 middle school age kids and three in car seats in my car. I'm traveling down the highway when an armored truck passes me. I pick up my speed a bit when the state police pass me and the armored truck with blue lights flashing and siren screaming. He pulls both of us over, steps up to talk to the armored truck then walks back to my Explorer. He's acting all big and tough and tells me that the driver of the armored truck said that he was speeding because he thought I was following him with the intention of robbing him and he wanted to get to a safe place asap. I said "You've gotta be kidding. He passed me. What did he think, that I had my posse with me?" The cop was trying not to laugh but couldn't help himself.

A boss that I had a few years ago got notice from the court that his license was subject to be suspended for something related to a Cadillac. He had never owned a Cadillac in the whole time I knew him, did not live in the area of town that this supposedly occurred in and the name was wrong-close to his but middle initial wrong and some discrepance of 1st name (kind of like someone whos mom named them Tom but everyone else is Thomas. He is downtown by the traffic court and decides to stop in and see if he can get it straigtened out and sees the clerk. She looks at it, looks at him and kind of says well you already have a court date so tell it to the judge. I had no idea he was stopping in, but I get a phone call from the court clerk. She's telling me that my boss stopped by, what had transpired etc. She goes on to say, he was clearly upset but thanked her and left. She said I get people yelling and screaming at me all day long calling me every name you can think of. His attitude impressed her so much that she took his info to the judge, showed him what had happened. She ask for the fax number and faxed him a release saying everything was cleared up and signed by the judge.

Awe, see kindness and attitude go so far! Thank you for an uplifting story (and reminder) tirgldy!
