Hi! Welcome to PTO and the forum. I wish I could guess, and be right, about how long any legal process will take. Basically, the military will return him to his unit for any charges to be preferred and the case will eventually be resolved. I really can't tell you much about AWOL in particular, although someone else may have been through the same experience and have more insight. I am posting a link to the Manual for Courts-Martial 2008. It is an Adobe file you can save and have for future reference. The procedures for the legal process in the military are close to, but not exactly the same, as civilian criminal matters and the Manual explains pretty much everything you could want, or need, to know. Even if you read only the part that currently applies, it is helpful to know what to expect because no one from the military is going to be exactly "attentive" to your need for information. You could get lucky and your husband's Trial Defense Counsel will keep you informed. Some do, some don't. Ask your husband to ask his attorney to keep you informed of the status of his case. You can find out more about the specific charge of AWOL on the internet, or someone will answer your question here, I'm sure. Glad you found us and feel free to ask away! We're all here, going through this together, and try to help each other when we can. Good luck to you both! Keep the Faith!
~Lisa.

He is probably going to Fort Knox. They will probably not let him go, you should expect him to do time at a brig somewhere. Good Luck.

The laws can be different when we are at war. My best friends son just went AWOl from the Army this week so we are researching it on line.

I'm also trying to figure the whole AWOL sentence out...my boyfriend was picked up about 2 months after going AWOL but he was still in AIT on christmas break when he did this...he was in county for almost two months before they transferred him to another county but the M.P's have yet to come get him.
