View Full Version : Gov. Sebelius Seems To Think Prison Rape Is Funny

"TOPEKA, Kan. - The son of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is peddling a board game titled "Don't Drop the Soap," a prison-themed game he created as part of a class project at the Rhode Island School of Design.
John Sebelius, 23, has the backing of his mother and father, U.S. Magistrate Judge Gary Sebelius. The governor's spokeswoman, Nicole Corcoran, said both parents "are very proud of their son John's creativity and talent."
John Sebelius is selling the game on his Internet site for $34.99, plus packaging, shipping and handling. The contact information on the Web site lists the address of the governor's mansion. Corcoran said the address will change when John Sebelius moves. The game also goes on sale starting Jan. 31 at a shop called Hobbs in the college town of Lawrence."Fight your way through 6 different exciting locations in hopes of being granted parole," the site says. "Escape prison riots in The Yard, slip glass into a mob boss' lasagna in the Cafeteria, steal painkillers from the nurse's desk in the Infirmary."
The game includes five tokens representing a bag of cocaine, a handgun and three characters: wheelchair-using 'Wheelz," muscle-flexing "Anferny" and business suit-clad "Sal 'the Butcher.'"
Corcoran said John Sebelius sought legal advice to be sure he followed proper requirements, and he even took out a loan to pay for the production of his work.
"This game is intended for mature audiences — not children — and is simply intended for entertainment," Corcoran said."
Proud of her son's creativity and talent? Are you kidding me?
Feel free to contact Governor Sebelius and enlighten her to the fact that prison rape is definitely NOT entertainment.

adevilinherhat 01-28-2008, 03:14 PM And to think his website that is selling this game has the address of the governor's mansion listed as site owner...that means the Kansas taxpayers are technically selling this piece of crap. I'm furious and I don't even live in Kansas!
adevilinherhat 01-28-2008, 03:21 PM I sent her my comment...
Subject: Your Talented & Creative Son's New Game
Comment: I saw the article on MSNBC's website touting your son's new game "DON'T DROP THE SOAP". Are you kidding me? Is your lack of outrage a testimony to the fact that you think prison rape is a laughing matter meant to entertain the masses that might purchase your son's ridiculous game? If your son should ever end up wrongfully accused of a crime and sent to prison...make sure your parting words to him are "Don't drop the soap." You are an outrage ma'am...and I am ever so glad I do not reside in a state like Kansas that would market this crap from the Governor's mansion! Shame On you!

Lesliezack 01-28-2008, 07:45 PM OMG.... that board is so racist and disgusting...
ThatOneChick 01-28-2008, 08:34 PM That's disgusting. I cannot believe the governor would be proud of her son for creating that! That's sick. I'm going to send her a nice lil comment too.
reggie42 01-28-2008, 08:48 PM Just finished closing my jaw. Now I'm sending my email, and I don't even live in Kansas either! I'm not sure who is more pathetic in all of this, but anyone who actually buys that POS game better hope they never end up in prison. GGGGRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Darrick's Girl 01-28-2008, 09:00 PM Her son is just a rich little punk for creating such a stereotypically racist game. What is so creative about pandering hate? But she's the frigging Governor! It's such a disgusting display of stupidity and insensitivity from an elected official. Is it 1958 in Kansas? wtf? But, karma is a bitch. And, wouldn't it be funny if junior DID find himself calling Mummy collect at the Gov's mansion from some county jail.

tigrldy 01-28-2008, 09:31 PM I just sent my comments to the governors office. I'm actually speechless that she sees nothing wrong in that game. Now I'm off to the e-mail address for Gillius to send this little turd a comment. Oops supposed to be nice.
Darrick's Girl 01-28-2008, 09:33 PM I am saddened to read about your son's new business venture. I find "Don't Drop the Soap" to be offensive and disgusting. I fail to see what's creative about pandering stereotypical racist hate for personal profit. The fact that you say that you are "very proud of your son John's creativity and talent" is either a testament to your great insensitivity or great stupidity. Furthermore, the fact that this "game" is being peddled from the Governor's residence is just apalling.
Perhaps the children of inmates could use someone who has "creativity and talent" to create a boardgame to play while they visit their parents. Perhaps one that would help them cope with the pain of being away from a loved one. One would hope that a child of a public servant, who grew up priviledged and with positive role models, would have some sense of civil duty. But where's the quick buck in that?
Darrick's Girl 01-28-2008, 09:34 PM Sorry the post was so long, but I was FUMING..
Darrick's Girl 01-28-2008, 09:35 PM damn..i meant civic duty..i WAS fuming...lol
ViCharliesMom 01-28-2008, 10:13 PM OH this just makes me SICK!!! I just sent her my email and I have to tell you I hope she can sleep at night promoting this with her son and husband. She is discusting, sick pathetic women who doesn't have a clue what imates go through and what we as their families have to live with day to day worrying about our children. MAKES ME SO SICK!!!
feelinglost 01-28-2008, 10:35 PM I am from KS and deeply offended by this. I have sent my email as well and am letting others know. I did notice that the address is Lawrence, not Topeka. Maybe that was changed.
feelinglost 01-28-2008, 10:44 PM Here is mine
This is totally ridiculous. I completely understand supporting your children. This to me is the issue: Have you no respect for the human race? What if your child was an imate somewhere and they got raped? How would you feel then? Is all rape in the jails/prisons a joke to you and your family? I would think that a MOTHER if nothing else would see how this game is unfit. It says not for children. As you well know children see things all the time that they are not supposed to. Please tell me how to explain to some child what this game means when someone they love and care about is locked up. Please tell me.

Thank you for that quick link!
BlessTheInmates 01-29-2008, 11:12 AM Oh there's going to be some MAJOR reprocussions from this one.
haswtch 01-29-2008, 11:29 AM I am saddened, outraged, and disgusted by your son's "creative" endeavor. There is no humor in rape- anywhere, ever. That the tired old line about dropping the soap is even remotely acceptable as humor is a sign of just how barbaric and counterproductive our penal system and our society truly are. Your son may think it's cool and funny to stereotype and laugh about prisoners as he floats around the pool on his air mattress- I think he (and you) are profoundly in need of some consciousness raising. Read the hearings that led to the passage of the Prison Rape Elimination Act, for starters. Then realize that no such "elimination" has taken place.
I am not a Kansan, but I absolutely loved your response to President Bush last night. That such an evidently intelligent person could be so far off on this issue suggests that there's a lot you just don't know. God bless, and PLEASE try to learn it. And tell Junior to get his butt out of the pool and give up seeking to profit from the misfortunes of others.
Thanks,
Anne
Lesliezack 01-29-2008, 03:43 PM It was just brought to my attention by a friend who is also an attorney....Does he have a business license to sell these?? It doesn't say the money is going to charity? Hmmmmmm anyone know the law there??? Maybe the state of Kansas would know LOL

LMAO I didn't want to say anything..BUT creative...design school...HMMMMMMMMM
tigrldy 01-29-2008, 07:15 PM The article I read did say he researched and obtained the proper licensing.
Lesliezack 01-29-2008, 07:23 PM This interested me from the paper.
Nice cover story, but the facts don't mach up...
..."Corcoran said John Sebelius is meeting all legal requirements, rules and regulations, .
"He has contracted with a company called CCNOW, which is a secure online retailer, and they are responsible for collecting shipping, handling and sales tax,"
As stated on their website @:
http://www.ccnow.com/cgi-local/faq.cgi?home_item_70_9_70 (http://www.ccnow.com/cgi-local/faq.cgi?home_item_70_9_70)
"CCNow will automatically collect sales tax from the consumer for any order shipping to the US state of Minnesota."
They do not collect for any other state... he is not in compliance with state law reguarding the collection of sales tax.
More at the blog... raubinandmegan.com/blog
Since when did the governors mansion become zoned for retail sales? This is state property that is to be used by the governor as a part of their salary for the people of Kansas. When does it become proper, or legal for a 23 year old man, or any person to use any state property for retail sales, regardless if it is registered in the secretary of states office?
MLamars 02-12-2008, 05:08 PM I really cannot believe that we are all letting this just slide by without all of us raising cain. It is just really sad that the society today has come to think it is just alright let someone let alone our state governor's son get by with such a travesty. I will most assuradly write to her and maybe go above her head and let others know how we as parents of a loved one inncarcerated feel about this. Folks get this out to all of the news media and to everyone you know. Just a mom who loves her son and stands behind him.
