View Full Version : Light a Candle for PWCIP

BlessTheInmates
01-22-2008, 12:42 PM
I'm not even sure where I found this, you know, so many messages here on PTO. I'm grateful that they left a link. Here it is for anybody else to share. Light a Candle, leave a message and the Candle will burn for 48 hours. Not sure what happens after that though, maybe we can keep new candles burning endlessly together with our thoughts, hopes and prayers?

Our group of candles is called PWCIP. If you can't find this link page below with candles to light, You can do a search to find the page by using the search box. Search for: PWCIP

Thank you so much for the site. I use to light candles all the time in my church in the Bronx when I was a girl. I loved the sound the change made in the metal box and the long match thingie to light the candle.

I'm amazed at what a spiritual experience we can have by simply lighting a candle (or cyber-lighting it :) and praying for loved ones. It just feels good! Excellent site.

Oh look at this!! What beautiful hearts! Look at all the candles and messages on the candles. I'm in sheer awe.

I was thinking, it may look like its a group for PWCIP. But really...anybody who lights a candle is adding a blessing for every single person with every situation we're in. Brothers, Sisters, Friends, Girlfriends, Boyfriends, Children, Family, Grandparents, the works! I wish I could change the group name now.

Darricks Girl, thank you so much! I always wanted to know how it felt to light a candle at church like that. Long match thingie. hehe How cute!

Bless, this was a really cool idea. Thanks so much, I needed to ask for a blessing today. You all are great and just seem to be in tune with the other mother hearts that's a blessing, too. Mercedes

I went on to the site...great idea. But my question is, when all you ladies say you lit a candle, do you mean at home (a real candle)? I couldn't figure out how to light one on the site. Please answer....

MDF1965

Gypsy, when you go to the web site, just click your mouse on an ***UNLIT CANDLE*** and it will direct you to the next screen and you then can write a message if you wish to, and then you***CLICK ON THE WICK*** and Poof! There's your candle, burning in unison with the others!

Hope this helps you. Have a great day!

FYI I just found this on the Terms of Use page.

Light them up! I squeezed one right in beside D'Gal's candle. :) Couldn't resist. giggle. woops it's jumped over a space now. Maybe it starts randomizing?

Candle site will display up to 24 new candles per day per person and up to 100 new candles per person per week. While on occasion we may allow you to exceed these limits, the excess candles may or may not display publicly. Such excess candles will not be counted in group or country statistics.

Since I realized I could light more than one candle, I've lit one for all the parents with children in prison. Lighting that candle gave me a sense of peace and connection with all of us. Our page will be full in no time at all. I use to hate the internet, now I love it...so many ways to connect!

High Fivers Lavina! Keep on lighting them. Today we were down to 17. eeks! Doesn't it feel like time passes so slowlyyyy tick tick tick? And yet the candles burn out in 48 hours. And there's alot burned out. So that tells me time is actually passing and I'm not stuck in a jar of molasses. Praise God for the teeny HUGE things he's doing.

I've been lighting 2 candles every day (one from us and one from our grandson) and it really has helped in our "countdown" for our son's release (Feb. 12). It's a small gesture but somehow is very soothing to my soul. I've told my son about it and he'll be lighting some himself once he gets home. We have so much to be grateful for! We have all maintained our health, sanity and sense of humor through out this ordeal...that alone is fantastic! I pray and give thanks to God everyday...

Thank you BlessTheInmates, for the coming home thread. I had already found it; sometimes I find things randomly (or not so random) on this site. It's always helpful info...the more I read, the better I feel. And yes, my son will be home in 8 more days and we're all excited. He called last night and said these last days are the hardest because of all the emotions he's feeling (scared, happy, nervous, anxious) But I told him the hardest part is OVER...if he got through so far as well as he did, then these last days will soon pass.
I've mailed off his "dress out" clothes, I've cleaned out closets, rearranged rooms and it's helped to make me know that this is for real...he'll be home so soon. I continue to light candles on our PWCIP page daily. Thank you all for your input and support.:) :) :) :)

Oh your welcome! Isn't that great information! I'm so impressed by that. I told my husband about it, he is going to read that if I have to tape it on the front of his face. heheh!

I totally pictured you doing all those things preparing for your son to come home. How exciting!!!!!!!! I've heard the last days or month are the hardest. But I can't see it as anything less than Santa Clause Eve x 1 Billion anxious and happy and joy and planning and and and.

Gypsysoul ~ Thanks for the info and greeting

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and prayers.

I've been being strong, but today has been such a struggle. Tomorrow is my son Seth’s, yet an other, court hearing and he needs a miracle. Please pray for Seth and all the family. His sixteen year old son needs his father to come home.

Over six years ago Seth was an addict holding his and his dealers drugs. He was charged as if it was all his. Even his lawyer cried when he heard the guilty verdict. He has rededicated his life and believing God to release him so he can help others avoid the drug pitfalls and be the father he was intended to become.

I have been gathering scriptures to strengthen my faith and trying to give all my concerns to God in prayer. I am thankful for the promise of Job 22:30 "He will deliver one who is not innocent, and he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands." My other favorite is Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. “ I hope these give each of you strength for your loved ones.

God shook the earth to set Paul free. God needs to shake the earth to set all the families of the incarcerated free.

A Guiding Light For every darkened corner
There is a quiet light
That flickers on unselfishly
Against each raging night.
A faithful flame of tender love
That burns within each heart,
Enkindling a glow of hope
That never will depart.
No matter what the circumstance
Or storm that mars your sight,
Sweet Jesus with His constant flame
Of love will be your light.
So, let each dawn remind you
Of the One Whose Presence near
Will guide you on your journey
And lead you home from here.

Good Morning Willitbe, Reggie, DanialJohnsMom and Everybody. Today is Sunday. Thank you for the reminder to keep on lighting the candles.

If you're feeling the sparks, lite em on up! It's like a never ending matchstick in our hands :)

Here's the Candle Site information

Candle site will display up to 24 new candles per day per person and up to 100 new candles per person per week. While on occasion we may allow you to exceed these limits, the excess candles may or may not display publicly. Such excess candles will not be counted in group or country statistics.

For light does the darkness most fear...

Hands...Jewel...
If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
We are God's hands
We are God's hands

Hello Faith and Whitewolf. The candles are so beautiful. To know you and so many others are lighting candles shows an incredible amount of willingness to do everything we can for our loved ones, ourselves and eachother.

Thank you Bless for your individual commentary to my having lit a candle for PWCIP and my loved one that is incerated...but as a mother (parent) and Christian how could we 'not' agree in prayer for our loved ones that are imprisoned. In fact, our precious Lord tells us in Matt. 18:19-20 ...

v.19 "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

The Lit a Candle site is a mighty vehicle for us use to gather and pray for our loved ones. Thank you so much and God bless you dear sister Bless for linking to it to start this PWCIP group prayer.

I know God will answer us in His faithfulness to His Holy Word and that he is indeed present at the candles site and He will hear/has heard our pleas for mercy on our loved ones, in His time. In the meantime we, as His humble servants can only wait upon Him to do so, but it is such a great comfort to know we have each other in it until He does so.

When I go to light a candle, I click on the lit candles to read and pray. When I click on a lit candle and the pray comes up, there are links at the bottom, and one of them says Mini Candle. I click on it and it opens a small window with the lit candle in it. Then if I click on the mini candle it will show the pray that person wrote. I am thinking this is something we can use to watch our candles and meditate. Was just wondering, but not sure.

Not sure what you mean by shutting your system down. I know its recommended too....but I am afraid old dino here will not reboot. I only shut it completely off a couple times a week for cleaning purposes. But if you shut your puter off completely the candle should have disappeared :hmm:

I have not found out to delete the candle on my desk top. It is not so much that I do not want it there, I just like to be in a littel bit more control of what I am putting there, or feel like I am more in control at least

erm....it should have a close button on the window. Can you move it around on the screen? Sometimes my puter has a mind of its own and resizes the window....then I can't find the X button. Try resizing the window.

Let me know if its still there. I will rack my crazy brain to try to help.

Thanks again for the hugs in another thread :)

Many Blessings to you!

Thank you Gracie for the candles - I lit one for all of you wonderful women (hmmm men). I have never in my 39 (choke) years seen as many caring people in my life.

When stess would hit me my youngest would always know. One time I was really upset and we were talking - I said I don't have all the answers, I need some myself. He looked at me and said 'mom, who does everyone go to for answers, it's you'. (I'm talking the neighbors, milkman and the cats) Well that was sweet but it didn't answer my questions, fears or stress, but you ladies do. Opps, sorry there is a genteman here also. Thank you for being you.

Hugs Judeca! I feel the same way about you and everybody here. I've learned so much from each one of you. Compassion and Friendship. Thank you for lighting a candle.

I've leaned on you quite a bit for answers. Thank you so much for that. That's our Super Judeca! But time to lay your head on the shoulders here. I bet people wonder why we all walk around with permanant pillows attached to our collar bones now huh. haha! Oh the visuals crack me up.

OCMom, I'm guessing Orange County. Have you checked the site for your son's prison to see if they are on lockdown? That would be my first guess. I'm so sorry for your worry, my son is in a CA prison also and lockdowns are becomining a second nature to me now. If I don't here from him when I'm supposed to, I book it over to the site giving info. on his prison, an lo and behold, they are usually locked down.

Light a Candle, leave a message and the Candle will burn for 48 hours. Not sure what happens after that though, maybe we can keep new candles burning endlessly together with our thoughts, hopes and prayers?

It is a lovely site and idea, but I also could not see how to light the virtual candle.

However - we (partner and I) are actual candle makers here in Oregon. And of course we have candles going pretty much 24/7 in our house or shop (testing different styles, fragrances etc). So - you gave me the idea to have a candle going on a regular basis devoted especially for all the folks on PTO and their loved ones. I'll just add this ritual to my daily prayers....

I might even add it to my booth when I'm vending at events. I am so grateful for this entire site, I've been thinkiing how I can pass the word. Perhaps I will add the candle and a sign about PTO.....

Thanks for sharing

That is such a wonderful idea.. it may even help one more suffering parent to be able to get the much needed support they had been searching for.

I lit two candles. This time I found it easy to light the candle. The first time I just didn't get it. All one needs to do is click on a candle and follow instructions. Thank you again for sharing this site.

Sorry Elizabeth's Dad, I would never exclude any parent. In fact it makes my heart glad to know a Dad is involved as you are. I do believe you are a minority though. We could ask the question and see just how many great Dads we have with us. We are grateful for your involvement on this forum and hope you aren't offended when we take the easy way and just use the word Mom. Never hesitate to remind us that some of our inmates are lucky enough to have wonderful Dads as well as Moms as members of PWCIP.:)

I am not a PWCIP but have a bf..but I have read these posts and they really touch my heart to know that there are parents that do stand by their children..my bf's mom could care less about him and makes me sad..I read a post where the mother mentioned that the son has told other people that what makes him regretful was the pain he caused his mother..that touched my heart so much..but I give all of you props to stand by your children...

Thank you so much for reminding me of the forgotten inmate. So much of the time we focus on our own that we lose sight of those inmates who have no one to support them. Lighting the candles is a good reminder.
