Greetings all,

Wonderful News! FACTS has secured a 40 to 50 person bus to take "freedom riders" to the Candlelight Vigil in Colton sponsored by San Bernardino & Pomona/Ontario FACTS chapters.

The Vigil is being held on Saturday, August 10th between the hours of 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM at Fleming Park (corner of "F" St and No. La Cadena Dr. in Colton. The bus was provided courtesy of Councilman Nate Holden's Chief Deputy, Louis White.

The vigil takes place in recognition of close to 4,000 men and women serving indeterminate life sentences for petty offenses under California's Three Strikes Law.

In November, the US Supreme Court will hear arguments and be asked to rule on the constitutionality of the 3-strikes law. The August 10th Candlelight Vigil is our voice. It is our declaration that the imposition of a life sentence for a minor offense (the 3-Strikes Law) amounts to cruel and unusual punishment and is a violation of every law of humanity.

The bus will leave from R Ranch parking lot/shopping center at the corner of Washington Blvd and 10th Ave. at 4:30 - 5:00. You can park your car at that location courtesy of R Ranch Market.

Call or email to reserve a seat on the bus.

Here's the newspaper article from the San Bernardino Sun. We were also on the Channel 5 news at 10:00 PM and the Channel 13 news at 11:00 PM. There were more than 100 people there I think, although the article says about 100. It was a great success. As the MC, I asked if anyone was there from PTO, but no response from the crowd. I did mention PTO as a great place to get and share information on line though. I'm sure hoping in the future to get more Californians from PTO involved. There is power in numbers and the more people that show up for these types of things, the more we are heard!!

We will be engaging in a lot of other activities over the next few months that are related to prison reform, 3 strikes, the November Supreme Court hearing on Andrade & Brown among other things. I'll keep them posted in the California Forum so everyone knows what's going on. Hope to see some of you there!
