View Full Version : Anyone know about the Drug Release Program? Love4JW 10-30-2003, 12:43 PM Hi i was wondering if anyone was familiar with the Drug Release Program and what qualifications one must fit in order to be accepted? Searcher 10-30-2003, 05:50 PM Are you talking about someone in a county jail awaiting sentencing and the option of Drug Court has been offered? Of this I know plenty about, but not sure if that is what your asking. egs 10-30-2003, 07:48 PM In NJ, if one is sentenced for a felony they must complete their mandatory minimum sentence. There are no drug release programs, per se. There are several levels of drug programs--there are programs located right in some of the prisons [Southern State, Northern State, Riverfront, South Woods] and prisoners can enter those programs there. There is usually waiting lists. There are some Dept. of Correction community-based drug programs; again, higher demand then there are slots. The problem with going to a community based program is that if one leaves, it is considered an escape [no different than an escape from a prison] and usually results in new charges and more prison time...this happens more than you would think. There are also pre-release halfway houses where one is expected to seek and keep a job, pays rent to the halfway house, etc..... These slots are to be "reserved" for those who have less than 2 years left on their sentence. These are also part of the DOC. There are also drug programs connected w/parole which parole can mandate as a condition of parole. Hope this helps.... Love4JW 10-31-2003, 04:11 PM hey thanks alot guys for the feedback.. and to egs.. i kind of dont understand what you meant when you said that there are no drug release programs in NJ but later on you wrote that there are pre-release jobs for those that have less than 2 years on there sentence? what are pre-release halfway houses.. will i be able to see my bf if he gets accepted to his program? thanks so much egs for ur feedback.. it was helpful but still al little confused egs 10-31-2003, 06:37 PM Don't jump the gun at this point. If you are feeling confused you are in the right place! lol. There is a lot to learn about the prison system and how it works...and does not work! I'd like to suggest that you take one day at a time at this point. As you learn how the prison where your boyfriend will be housed works then you can take the next steps to learn more about programs, etc..... Let him and you settle in a bit and adjust to his current situation...and your's too! Just to clarify....when you said "release" programs, it sounded like you meant a program where one is released from prison to attend a drug program. A pre-release program means they are still a prisoner and still belong to the DOC!!!! Pami333 09-02-2007, 12:44 PM I am new to PTO. I am glad to have found this site. My guy is in Coffee Creek, Oregon waiting to be moved to a permanent facility. Does any one know how the AIP programs work. He was sentanced to 30 months, with having to do 13 months in prison before being eligiable for the programs. He is in for his 5th DUII. He really needs the programs. He is telling me because the prisons are so full he may have a chance to go directly to progams if there is a bed available. Does anyone know how this works jjsbabygirl 03-17-2008, 08:52 PM Hello, Im new to this stuff. I had my first visit with my husband today and hes getting into this class.
