My daughter was excited to see a real baked sweet potato last night.
It seems on the new menu they get some fresh veggies.
They were in shock and delighted.

What is the national menu program? Are they implementing it in other facilities? I googled, but couldn't find anything! Thanks!

BOP standardized the menus for prison meals a while back...it's being implemented s-l-o-w-l-y.
Anyway, it seems to have improved the food at Alderson.
At least that's what my daughter says.

I left Alderson Dec 19th...and at that time they were already implementing some changes...actually they started the changes in November. One change that was NOT good was...they took away the salads. They used to have salad at lunch and dinner....every day. Now they have it at lunch on M-W-F and at dinner only T-Th. No salad on weekends. Well for a lot of people...that was all they ate. The rest of the food they gave us was mostly carbs....and I hardly ever saw a vegetable (other than the lettuce they call a salad). Fruit was almost non-existent. I couldn't wait to get home to see a grape. Bananas once in a great while. Apples now and then....soft red ones. No other fruit. The food there (as well as everywhere else I am sure) is awful. That is one reason I managed to lose 70 pounds in the six months I was there.
God Bless
