I wanted to post an update on J. B. Evans, the men were transferred today, and arrived this evening.
The information I found out from speaking with the facility is, since changing to a men's facility some info has changed.
J. B. Evans Correctional
500 Routh St.
Newellton, La 71357
Phone # 1(318)4673355
The food seems to be better, the rules seem not to be as strict, and the visitation is different.
Visitation is based on dorm assignment, and not last name. It's 20 dollars per person that is allowed in one dollar bills or change, also it's Saturday and Sunday every other weekend from 1pm to 4pm. And also the color you can't wear at this facility is orange

You can send stamps any type of pens as long as they write blue or black, and any type of paper except sprial notebooks. If you need any more info, just let me know. I'm on the phone with them quite a bit

They can have stamps, magazines (no porn), 2 puzzle books per month (you can print them online), any kind of pens, loose leaf paper and envelopes. You can use manilla envelopes to send these things. Also, they are allowed unlimited books (paperbacks only) as long as they come from a company. I use amazon. I talk to the staff there at least once a week to see if and when they will allow boxes. Since this is a "private prison" they don't have a website with this information readily available, I even offer to design one for them, lol. Luckily, the staff is very friendly, compared to Alabama. I've gotten so many letters from Touvoris and he said the food is much better but the portions aren't enough. He also said the staff is very professional, polite and respectful. Nothing like the times I've visited with him in Alabama, they are some rude folks. I HTH!

You should contact the prison, usually their visitation lists will transfer with them. But just in case I'd call to make sure, HTH.

Thanks KM. I did talk to my friend and he let me know what I could send as well. Do you know if you can BRING stuff in when you go to visit? I feel like I should do something for him, but he is the type to say he doesn't need anything even when he does. I don't know what he needs though. To the one asking about visitation, you have to be on a list. It can take some time to get approved. All you have to do is ask your friend to add you. He will need some information from you though, like drivers license number, social, and date of birth.
