View Full Version : Phone Calls..PLEASE HELP!!!!
tomjosephswife 01-05-2008, 04:26 PM So I've gotten a lot of calls from him today. My only problem is that I missed the first 3 and I talked to him around 3:15 for literally 15 seconds. Then he just called back about 1 minute ago and I entered all my credit card information and then it hung up. I think it might have had something to do with the fact that my mother-in-law was pushing buttons? I don't get it though, I listened to the recording and everything and entered in all correct info, but it hung up?? Please help!!
south1 01-05-2008, 05:09 PM From what I understand everyone is having the same problem. Read the forum about phones. Everyone is complaining about the new phone company. I hope it gets better. It can be very hard when you are not able to talk to your loved one. Prayers are with you.

***Amy*** 01-06-2008, 12:12 PM Listen, the BEST way to GUARANTEE you have funds on the phone when he calls is this -- DONT WAIT FOR HIM TO CALL!! If anything goes wrong, you won't be able to accept his calls. INSTEAD, go and do it ahead of time. You can do it right now. TWO OPTIONS
Call GTL Advance Pay at 1-800-483-8314and listen to the options for advance pay. You can apply $25 or $50. They will deduct a fee of almost $5 from the $25 or almost $9 fr $50. YOU MUST SET THIS ACCOUNT UP BY CALLING ADVANCE PAY INITIALLY. Once you have done this AT LEAST ONE TIME, you can use OPTION 2, the best and most cost efficient way.
OPTION 2 - BEST THING FOR LOTS OF CALLS
Go to Walmart. At the front of store there is a business center. Go in and tell them to give you a Moneygram form for PAYING A PHONE BILL. Fill out the form USING YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR THE ACCOUNT NUMBER. Apply ANY amount...I suggest AT LEAST $60 for cost efficiency because you're going to pay $9 for a transfer fee. The money will be applied IMMEDIATELY. (WALMART WILL NEED A FOUR DIGIT CODE TO BE WRITTEN AT THE TOP OF THE FORM. THAT CODE IS: 3637 but they can look it up too.
If you have any problems, let me know and i will help.
britt_04_04 01-06-2008, 08:23 PM thanks for the info amy!
Blueyez94 01-10-2008, 09:26 AM Also, if you go to globel tel's website you can pay online thru western union, the money is applied within mimutes to your account.
***Amy*** 01-10-2008, 09:33 AM Blueyes...do you know how much the fee is for using the western union online service? I couldn't figure it out so I skipped it. I'd prefer to do it that way rather than make the trip to wally world !!!
road2lane 01-10-2008, 04:40 PM is global tell what they use for the alabama prisons? my fiance is in the county jail now and hasn't been sentenced yet but i asked him if it's going to be gtl like at the corrections center and he said years ago when he was in prison, it wasn't.. i'm just wondering.
Blueyez94 01-11-2008, 03:00 PM Amy, the fee they charge is $9 no matter what amount you put on the account...
roadtolane-yes the ADOC uses Globeltel...
road2lane 01-12-2008, 02:03 AM Thank You!!!!
***Amy*** 01-15-2008, 09:40 PM I've only been charged $4.50 fee for applying $25 (via telephone to Globaltel) and $9 fee for applying $50.
When I send the moneygram, it's $8.94 regardless of the amount.
Well, that was until the end of December. I've not paid a dime since then. That's when I started putting my money back in my wallet and telling him to get his honey buns someplace else....lol...
Suthrndreamgirl 01-15-2008, 11:36 PM I go with moneygram...$8.94 per transaction. I usually put $100 (sometimes more) on the account...totaling $108.94. Had I made payments equaling $100 to my GTL account via the telephone service available...with the highest payment option available at $50 + the $9 fee...I would end up paying $218. That's $10 difference. You add that $10 difference here & there...it really adds up. You just get more bang for your buck using moneygram in the long run. Not too mention a $50 payment doesn't go very far (for us anyway). At approx. $4.95 per 15 minute call. Seems like I was having to add money every other day or two.
pepper24 01-16-2008, 02:52 AM I had no idea about the moneygram thing!?!?! When R was in county they had GTL...so, I had a prepaid acct. then for my cell phone. I reactivated that acct. when the DOC changed over to them & he got my cell # approved!! I've just always called and added $$ to my acct, that way!!! I really should look into this moneygram thing!!!
Amy, I had to chuckle at what you said about him getting his honeybuns from somebody else!! *lol* You are a hoot, Girly!!
Suthrndreamgirl 01-16-2008, 09:52 AM Oh I'm always looking for the best way. Before, our calls were $20 per 15 minute call! I think I have tried EVERY means & way possible...until I've finally found the best route.
Summer83 01-17-2008, 06:54 PM Oh I'm always looking for the best way. Before, our calls were $20 per 15 minute call! I think I have tried EVERY means & way possible...until I've finally found the best route.
That is exactly what I was paying when my boyfriend was in a private prison. the company was called Telecoin and it cost us $69.95 for what they consider a "basic plan". Now that he got transfered to Marianna FCI, the calls are ONLY $3.20 per 15 minutes. In comparison to what we were paying before, it's a heck of a lot better!
