Chris's mom and I were talking the other day about how his mood changes very quickly from one extreme to the other.
I had mentioned to her that after alot of letters, and phone calls, I thought he may be bi polar. She was shocked, and relieved because she has felt the same way for a long time.
The problem is, which one of us should talk to him about this, and how do we approach it, without him immediatly going on the defensive.
Second, she said he probably wouldnt go for it anyway because he told her once the guys that are on meds are considered "weak". Isnt there anyway for him to get evaluated and get his meds without everybody knowing?
That place is stressful and hell as it is, and I was thinking every little bit of help he could get counts..Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated..

My x-husband was said to be bipolar and this is something that can unclear. Severe depression can show some of the same signs. I know first hand that medication isn't always the solution and enviroment and positve changes can help, but as long as a person is locked up thats not going to change. You and his mom need to decide if these mood swings started after he went in or not. Prison is a very depressing place. Either way maybe you should contact his counsler and see if he/she has noticed this and what can be done and how to approch it with him. I know that when inmates first some here they get a mental health evaluation. Maybe she can get that and see what all it said. This is such a complex issue and one that will be hard to bring up to him no matter what, but the counsler would be where I would start. Good luck to all of you
