View Full Version : Janine from Texas - G'morning-I am new here
Janine 08-03-2002, 07:44 AM My husband is in the Bastrop FCI in Texas. This is my first time to visit this site. He was sentenced to 9 years for a first time drug offender. He will gone 4 years in December. My husband had custody of his son due to bio mom having abused him as a baby. When he left the bio mom took me to court to take away my step son. The jury and judges of many hearings found me to be the better parent and I now raise their son and bio mom gets visitation. I have been raising him since he was only a year old, he is almost 9 now. With a lot of prayer and letters my husband has received 3 1/2 years off his sentence and we are expecting him home in 11-15 months. "What a long strange trip it's been" I was just looking for others to talk to about similar situations. As you know there aren't a lot of other people you come into contact with on a regular basis with husbands in prison, or else they just don't talk about it in passing. I would like to hear from some of you. Thanks Janine
danielle 08-03-2002, 08:24 AM Dear Janine,
Welcome to PTO - I am glad you are here. My husband is also in prison, but in Alabama, so I understand about the separation. Take care and I can't wait to see you around!

cherylr 08-11-2002, 12:08 PM Welcome. I live in SETX and my brother is in Alabama. I just joined in June and have found everyone here to be very supportive.
I agree with you, it is hard to find people who can relate. If this doesn't sound too weird, I work for a small company.....in my immediate work area there are 3 other people I work with who have family in prison. Two mothers and one wife are waiting for their loved ones to come home.
Before I found PTO, they were my support lines.

KelliKoz 08-11-2002, 09:36 PM Hi Janine,
My husband is in the FCI in Florence, Colorado on a first time drug offense also, he is in the 17th year of a 33 year sentence, but will be out in 3-4 due to the 65% rule. I'm glad your husband's sentence was reduced. I am also glad you retained custody of the son. I am a children's advocate and some people are not meant to parent children.
Welcome to PTO, you will get moral, emotional, all kinds of support.
Kelli
tifa_execdir 08-12-2002, 08:43 PM Hello, Janine. I'm not sure what part of the state you live in, but there may be a chapter of the Texas Inmate Families Association (TIFA) in your area.
For more info about our support & advocacy group, check out my recent post on PTO at http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3379 .
You are doing a good thing for yourself and your family by seeking out a way to communicate with other families who understand what you're going through.
Best wishes. --Shannon

2Rebekahs 08-20-2002, 10:46 PM Hello Janine,
I am one of the newest members, too. Just joined over the weekend. I am really enjoying everyone's posts, etc. I have been a "prisoner" for about 18 months now. It is certainly NO fun. My husband is in AR. & I live in TX. I drove 799 miles on the last trip. I get to visit about every 6 weeks, if I am lucky. Someone commented that we were prisoners, too. You can bet your boots we are.
Good luck & as everyone else has said, "WELCOME". I am hoping to get some good things from this web site.
Yours in F. L. & T.
Diana
