My husband just went in Monday 3 Dec 2007 and is in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center in Columbus, MS. He told me a lot of the security guards said that no inmates are being transfered to Parchman anymore due to an investigation going on there, is this true? He is suppose to be going to Rankin for classifaction the last week of this month or first week of January, he was put in for Burglary of a Dwelling and has 7 years to serve... Any one know any info on Parchman or where he may go to serve and is it possible to return to the County jail here?

Hi there,
There is no way to know where your husband will be sent, likely SMCI or Parchman but hard to tell for sure. Where he is sent is determined after classification, based on sentence, programs and available bunks.
There are ongoing investigations going on at Parchman but I have not heard taht they are interfering with transferring inmates in. They are not closed.
All my best.

No Parchman isn't closed, but there has been an ongoing investigation for some time about abuse, violation of prisoner rights, etc. According to my man who is in 32-B, things are improving. Maybe they aren't moving anyone new there at this time until they get things cleared up. My guy says he is due to be moved soon to a better tier where they have more privileges, so maybe they want to get all the moves done before they bring new folks in. That may be what those CO's were referring to.

I've heard that the parchman facility is going to close cause they're loosing the rights to the land. Their lease is up and the people (farmers and etc.) want it back. I've heard that from alot of people when
I'm on the bus to go see my fiancee. He's in 25 (pre-release).

This has been a rumor for 15 years! They have lifetime rights to the land
