View Full Version : Problems with GTL Tonight?
***Amy*** 12-02-2007, 07:17 PM So he just called me and I couldn't accept the call. The balance said there was $4 in the collect (prepaid) account. That's not right because last week when we hung up, I checked the balance and it was $41.00
I just applied $100 to it a couple weeks ago. Anybody else having a problem with GTL?
This sucks so bad because I could have taken the option to add more money to the account while he was on the line, but I just hung up. I was scared if they were having a problem, I'd lose even MORE money. Now I don't know what to do. I'm going to call GTL tomorrow, but he's going to be trying to call me all night and I'm BOYCOTTING GTL and it will seem to him that I'm boycotting him. Oh well
Just had to vent and see if you guys are having any problems with your calls tonight.

Blueyez94 12-03-2007, 09:40 AM I had some problems Sat. evening..When my hubby called it said we had $5 in our account but I know we had more...It did let me accept the call...
Suthrndreamgirl 12-03-2007, 10:57 AM For the past month or so...when me & my guy would talk....several calls in a row...they weren't deducting for the calls ("free calls"). The balance was staying the same. When I spoke to him Friday...our balance was like $60. He called back...our balance was $30. When he tried to call back later...it stated there was no $ on the account. "I was like What the ????" I added $25....still nothing. Our calls are typically $4 per 15 minute call. I finally spoke with someone Sat. from GTL. Appearently, all the calls for the past month or so had not been calculated correctly through the computer system (the reason for the "free calls" we had been getting)....& the sysytem was now updating...taking all the money from our account & still leaving a negative balance! I ended up paying $133 just to be able to clear my account...& that was even after adding the addition $25 payment. Then I had to add $ to talk with too. Sigh. I think it's BS. That's not our fault. Again last night when we were finally able to talk...the last 3 calls the balance stayed the same! So here we go again! I think they should have to eat the loss...because that's something out of our control. What are we suppose to do? Pay attention to your call balances...even if they're not deducting...it will catch up. I guess you could look at it as if your calls are on credit....you will end up having to pay the balance. They said this has been a major problem.
***Amy*** 12-03-2007, 09:27 PM Suthrn! Yes! That's exactly what is going on. I spent most of today trying to talk to someone from GTL and every time I called customer service (1-866-230-7761) a recording said "we are experiencing extremely high call volume and cannot accept your call at this time. Please try again later."
So yes, Suthrn, we had the same thing to happen. We had a couple calls that never deducted from the balance. However, we only talk once or twice a week, and that's just the one call, so even if those caught up to us, I'm still supposed to have $20 or so. He tried to call me so many times last night and I finally gave in today at lunch and went to Walmart and used Moneygram to send $40. I had to pay $9.50. You should really only do Moneygram if you are sending a lot more...but I was scared to use GTL on my credit card! Plus now I have a papertrail. I added the $40 and he was able to call tonight. It makes no sense that they're charging us EXTRA because THEY failed to bill for some phone calls.
I'm going to start a new thread. I'm about to take some action against GTL if you guys will help me out. I'll explain in a jiffy.
***Amy*** 12-03-2007, 09:28 PM Hey everybody .. give me some details as to the problems you're having with GTL. I'm about to address these formally, like suthrn suggested.
nad_25 12-05-2007, 01:50 PM Here's a quick time line of my avents.
Dec 1st, my husband attempted to call me and the recording said my account had insufficient funds, so I added $50 via the automated bill pay system but it was never credited to my account. So I contacted customer service to inquire and was told that transaction would be credited to my account at a later time as their system was down. I was also told that my account was negative $55. (How this is possible considering all my calls are prepaid in unknown to me. Apparently they are back charging people for calls that GTL failed to charge.) So, I made a $100 over the phone with the representative to get my account paid up, and also have extra money to be able to receive calls. I knew something was off, but I don't want to have interrupted phone service, so I let it be.
Yesterday I called them to inquire about the initial $50 payment made through the automated bill pay system, and was told that my account was not $55 negative, it was $101 negative, so I was not going to be credited for that payment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today, I went online to check my bank account and saw that an additional $50 was taken out by GTL. I was in contact with GTL and they told me that I authorized it and if I wanted to speak to my husband, I wouldn't complain. Then she told me to hold the line for a supervisor (which I've been through before) and I was on hold for nearly 20 minutes before being routed to yet another automated call back system.
I don't know what to do about this. I feel that this is a huge scam. I think that legally they need to produce written proof to be able to back charge this way. It's like going to the store and purchasing a sweater and then the store manager calls you and tells you that you ow him another $10 because he under charged you. Rediculous!
Also, if there technology is not sophisticated enough to track calls properly, how in the world is it sophisticated enough to know how many calls they didnt charge all these people for? I think they're making up numbers and personally I think a class action law suit is needed to get these people to provide proof for their reasons. What's stopping them from doing this again? Nothing. And we continue to pay so we don't loose connecton to our loved one. Every single rep. I have spoke to, has given me a diff. story. AND they are rude as can be.
adam's fiance 12-05-2007, 08:46 PM i had the same kind of problem almost this past weekend. i called friday and put 50.00 dollars on my account and which made it about 70 dollars well when my fiance called me friday night it said there was no money when i finally got in touch with them on monday she told me that it was because there was so many calls made in the past 2 months since octover that hadnt been paid that they took it out of that. i am like you i think its a big scam and its crap when you pay money and they take it out of your checking account and then they dont credit. i feel your pain--shea
Suthrndreamgirl 12-05-2007, 10:27 PM Ditto & Ditto. This isn't just happening in AL...it's with many other states using GTL. Check out the phone forum on the main board. We DO need to all come together with this.
***Amy*** 12-13-2007, 11:14 AM Over the holidays while I'm off work I'll start printing out every post that deals with these problems with GTL. Then when we come back from holidays, I'll go meet with the attorneys in my office and present these stories. I have already printed out the ADOC site info on GTL, the press releases talking about how wonderful GTL is, and the Tarrifs that GTL has violated, but anything you guys find along the lines of promises made, services offered by GTL that we're not getting, rates, etc. Anything will be helpful! Just PM me if anybody finds anything and I'll give you an email address to send it to.
loady 12-13-2007, 10:16 PM I total agree about gtl. I have always added money before all my calls. I put twentyfive on the bill and for three days the calls would not connect. well when it finally did connect it said i had no money and when i called gtl i found out they have me oweing $405.00 for calls. I know i do not owe this. I am fighting with them and all i can get is the calls did not update until Dec 1 but i know i only took three or four calls that were not taken off at first. I do not have the money to pay that. I know I did not take calls that were not paid for. He only calls once a week. i never had any trouble with t nex and wish i could go back to them. you know a prepaid account is not going to let that many calls go through free!!! we need to do something .
