I received this & it sounds like it may be a good idea. I thought I would pass it along.------Ken

have been thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to buy a small house in salinas valley soledad and
make it into a dormitory for folks visiting the prisons there, considering hotel space is so limited...
a place for women and kids to hang out with other women and kids. anyone interested in this idea?
how much would be a reasonable price you'd pay for a comfy place to sleep/shower with other visitors? just exploring the idea of women in community offering service to other
women in community...and the viability of this...

This sounds like a wonderful idea!

Mindboggling that no one ever thought of it before!

I think it's a great idea!! Hotels are very expensive for the most part. I visit every 2 weeks and spend about $50. staying at the Motel 6 in King City. It is very clean & only about 15 minutes from the prison. All others are in Salinas or King City are in the $80 range or higher. If the house could be bought right in Soledad or Gonzales, it would be convenient to the prison. Only one cautionary comment - there are a lot of visitors bringing drugs up into the facility. We all see it on a regular basis. I even had it happen to me when I extended myself to give someone a ride up and share a room. She had drugs on her and I didn't know it. Almost left her by the side of the road!! How & who will ensure that this does not happen on the premises? I for one do not want to be around it. I'm trying to get my fiance out of prison, not get me in!!:sleepy:

I think it would be perfect if you could get something like that up and running. I asume it would run 24hours a day and you would have to a shift change and enough staff to run it. Remember with all the crazy stuff going on in the world today you will have to keep in mind to make sure you and the familys that stay there will be safe. If you so happen to get anymore information please pass it a long.

Just for some of the reason's that have been posted, I can see why it isn't being done.

By charging a fee, the government will see it as a business, more red tape. Then the neighborhood to contend with and the "lowlife's" with kids looking for a freebie by staging an accident and your in court.

compassionnate thinking, can be dangerous!

Hi guys,

This is a great idea! There is a lot to worry about though, and fed-x is right...cash:)

We do need to make sure it is safe, though. No drugs, and none of that. I don't know how we can make sure of that, though.

I go every week to see my husband, and just like someone said, I don't want to get myself in trouble.

The only way to advertise it would be through word of mouth, too, because if you do advertise, then it does turn into a business.

I wonder if you could register it as a non-profit???
