Are regular visits allowed at all during Reception?

How many people can visit during a regular visit?
Do we need an appointment for regular visit?

What is the family visit like? A bungalo? A Cell? A cottage? I have no clue.
How many can visit during a Family Visit? Does it start on a Friday night and continue for 48 hours? or?

Thank you so very much for any information

Hope this helps...

Are regular visits allowed at all during Reception?Visits are allowed during reception, but you have to be an approved visitor. Your loved one has to send you a visiting application, once you recieve it fill it out completely and send it back. Sometimes it can take a while to be approved.

How many people can visit during a regular visit? In reception they can have up to 3 visitors, in a regular contact visit once they reach mainline they can have up to 5.

Do we need an appointment for regular visit? In Lancaster you have to have an appointment to visit an inmate in reception.

What is the family visit like? A bungalo? A Cell? A cottage? I have no clue.
How many can visit during a Family Visit? Does it start on a Friday night and continue for 48 hours? or?Family visits are a totally different approval process, once your loved one reaches a mainline facility, he can request a family visiting application from his counselor.

Thank you so very much for any information

Reception visits are only 30 minutes long and depending on the yard he is in, the appointment can only be made on a certain day. Visiting rules are very strict, follow everything to the 'T" Family visits, you need to be married a parent grandparent or the children.

Thank you soo very much everybody! The information you provided was awsome. Things are becoming so unfoggy lately due to everybody helping with these random questions.

I am very grateful to all of you. I'll try to find out more about the Family visits before the time comes as well.

Love and Blessings to you and your loved ones.

Hi! I am "new" to Lancaster but unfortunately not new to my honey being incarcerated. Anyway, let me know if you have found any good info on Lancaster. Mine has been there since August and is still in reception as of November. PM me if you need a Lancaster buddy and together we can find some good stuff!

Hello!

We're still awaiting approval for visitation to Reception. Can anybody contribute here who can tell me a little about their visiting experience at Lancaster? Reception or Mainline. I would like to understand things a bit better beforehand. Anything you can think of would be wonderful.

my husband is in lancaster a-yard. behind glass is an hour and i think u have to have an appointment. if its just a normal visit its from 9-3 get there at 8 if u want an all day visit. there starting to get a bit strickt about touching and stuff. me and my husband got in trouble for me putting my head on his shoulder. prtty things. 30 in ones or quarters. its basic if u want pictures its 2 dollars a ducut. quarters bring a couple extra bucks in quarters for pics cause u get them before they check u and let u go through the medal detector. basically just sit in a room at a little table and visit if its contact visit. vending machines with food. depends on the yard there in too. some are more strick then others. im not sure what else ur really looking to know. feel free to ask any questions or send a message if i wasnt clear. good luck and i hope when u get to go u have a great visit!

ToungeTied,

Thank you for all that information! I'm trying to imagine it. And your info really helped alot. I didn't know the visits were inside a room. I had a picture in my mind that it would be outside. Are there many others in the room too? We just want to hug our son freely and hold his hands and talk together. I know it's going to be so emotional. The vending machines sound very nice to have available. Thank you for the tip on the cash information.

Have you had a family visit at all? I probly have some wrong ideas about them. Are they cells? Small buildings or structures? Anything is a whole lot better than nothing. What are they like if you know?

We hope to be approved for the reception visitation soon. I'm so glad to get information about all this. I can know what is ahead for us now.

Thank you Thank you

If we get a Reception Visitation, we have to call for an appointment. Then we drive to Lancaster. What happens next?

When you visit, what do you do when you drive into the Facility? I read the manuals here, but haven't found detailed information on the proceedure that takes place.

when u drive in there is a line sometimes. if not u pull in make sure there is nothing in ur trunk. make sure that ur wearing the right color clothes.stay to the right lane its for visitors. the gaurd will call u up when they are ready for u. the check ur trunk. check ur id. they give u a slip. make sure u dont have any tools or random things less is better inside ur car. pull forward. park in visiting parking. (the first parking lot). fill out ur slip and u walk down a path by a big wood board that has dress code rules. u go down and u will see a building to ur right. go in there take ur slip to the counter give it to a gaurd. wait till they call u. in the mean time get ur picture ducuts from the machines. when they call u all jackets, jewlery, hair ties, clips, belts all come off. shoes also. they will ask u to show the bottom of feet and a bunch of other stuff. go through medal detector. and the gaurds can help u from there just ask. if it is a contact visit u can sit on a balcony like a picnic bench and its gated by fence all around u. nothing really great. depends on the visit ull have, if its behind glass there is a cornor in the visiting room where u sit and there is the phone and stuff and i think those are only an hour.
my husband is a lifer so we dont get family visits. but they are like trailers. like the barrecs at a school kind of like that. they acconidate u like a home inside from what i am told cause its an all weekend thing.
in visiting there is a bunch of little tables and chairs set up and yes everyone is in a room. each inmate and there visitors(s) at a table. u get assigned a table. im not sure what else to say anything else let me know glad to be of help. it was hard my first time. i did everything u could possibly wear wrong i wore. i had no idea what to expect. its pleasant though.

My fiance is also a lifer and he is in c yard. the description by tonguetied are very good. but i must tell you that make sure you have no cameras in your car. they will take them away and even threatened to throw them away. it happened to me already. what i tend to do is make sure that no camera or cellphone is visible. DO NOT put them in the glove compartment. they check that too. i have been going to lancaster since july and so far everything has been ok. make sure your shoes are not that flexible like soft soles. they do not allow them in. also make sure not to do nothing to fancy with your hair. they make you shake it to make sure nothing is in the hair. i know it sounds ridiculous but they do check. i hope this helps.

Thank you soo much for your descriptions. They are really great and so detailed. I have such a better idea of what it's going to be like now. I'm so glad you're here to help others out. And I'm so very very sorry for what you are both facing. God Bless you, inmates and your family's.

This is such a great thread. Thank you to all who are contributing their own experiences at Lancaster.

I wonder about the appointment making process. When we get through on the phone, is the appointment set usually setup for the following weekend or is it a few weeks waiting for your day to arrive for visiting?

Lancaster reception visits are only 30 minutes, they are no longer an hour, they are very strict there! Follow the dress code allow at least 1hour to 1 1/2 hours before your appointment for processing. Depending on the yard your son is in, that will determine what day you make an appointment C yard is on Thursdays for the Sat/Sun that follows A/B yard is on wednesdays, try to call early it is very difficult to get threw to make an appointment, again dont be late! If your appointments is at 10:00a and you arrive at the window at 10:10 you only have a 20minute visit left!

SierraFamily,

Thank you sooo much. This is some very important information you posted. I'm so grateful that while he was in county jail that we visited every single weekend. Had I looked into State Prison regulations earlier, we could have informed our son about the complications that might be involved in State Prison. Starting with visiting, to sign the application FIRST before he sends it.

Thank you again :)

I'm so happy you were approved! I didn't know friends of the inmates were able to apply to visit. I thought it was only parents, kids, spouses etc. This is good news :)

There is a thread or 2 about Lancaster that others have replied with alot of information. They have the experience of visiting there already. Maybe you can find it, and after your visit maybe you can add more information to the thread for others like myself to get more of an idea of how things work there too. I'll be doing the same as soon as we get a visitation privilage.

Scroll down to the very bottom of the main prison forums. "Other California State Prisons" is in that Link. There's a Lancaster Thread that a few of us are trying to maintain together and a few links on top of the page to find Lancaster Prison official Information :)

Sorry its the Long way to find it. Quite a few prisons are located there, we all need some attention back there, the more people to share information the better.

Yes, it was lovely to get his mail today. I was so excited that I went and took a letter to the post office...lol I'm a dork..haha couldn't wait til tomorrow. What was your mishap? Did he not sign the form? Because my boy didn't sign it either. I think they are supposed to sign it before they send it no? I was like grrrrrr are they not told? So I told him this in the letter and to send me another one just in case. I don't know. Still a process we are all learning I guess.

But yes...glad to get his mail...took it 6 days from when he wrote it....not bad. :D

ruh oh! Same mishap as we had. We assumed that his signature was going to take place AFTER the prison got our applications back. WRONG! Three weeks later we got them back. We had to start allllll over. He had no idea our applications were sent back. We called the prison told them of our plight and well lets just say I think they forgot to follow thru with the special favor to contact him to send us new ones. tick tick tick. So we wrote letters to him which take about 2 weeks to get into his hands. When he got word from us on December 3rd. He sent new applications out the same day. What a fiasco :)

You did the Best thing to write to him asap to send a new one with his signature. Wish we had thought of that first. ugh. Rather than sending the non signed ones off and waiting 3 weeks for your application to come back unsuccessful. Save yourself weeks and weeks and weeks of time.

I'm having a feeling we're going to be approved anyday now. wee!

wendy79
12-28-2007, 12:25 AM
So yes I did mention it in the letter for him to send me a signed one but I sent the other one anyways. Did you mail it seperately or did you mail it with the regular letter and let them take it out? Just wondering. But yeah had read plenty of the threads here saying that people had gotten them un-signed, a great heads up. I wonder why that fact is left out or even sent out that way, that sucks!

Let me know how long after you sent it that you got approved, I'm right behind you..hehe

We had to send the new applications directly to the Prison again. Not to the inmate. if thats what you're asking? my brain is thick sometimes. giggle. Yes I think they should make sure the inmate knows to sign them. Seems to be a reaccuring problem. ugh! One of my biggest worries is that the inmates just don't understand proceedures and paperwork that they're having to deal with in there. Sigh. We can't even figure it out with all this help on PTO :(

The deputy on the phone told me that they would never give our applications to the inmates for their own safety. That they would remove the filled out applications as soon as they found them in any mail sent to the inmate to sign. So that idea was out of the question immediately. He said they don't want personal information on the applications floating around the prison.

I beleive we sent the new signed applications in on December 5th.

Aww thank you Wendy and we wish the same for you too.

Ouchies! Well you did the right thing by finding out the application needs a signature first. hehe! Your just a teeny bit behind in the great "Please approve me"! application game :)

We sat and waited confidently dressed and ready to rip out the door for 3 weeks and our faces were like omg! What do we do now?

Does anyone have any suggestions on making an appointment for c yard. I've been approved since october and I'm never able to get thru to make and appointment! it's so frustrating! Also I'm under the impression that he is in reception, but he's been there since Aug. Does it usually take this long??? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I wonder if you might call the inmate locator phoneline and see what official information that they have on him? Tell them of your situation and they might be able to sort it out for you where he actually is? I hear the stay in reception is long, but in reception since August does seem very extended.

Hello gtlion!

Glad we're in the same thread now. giggle. I was in the other one and thank you for that information to call phone number you gave me.

Let's hope somebody drops in here and saves us from our questions soon. I wonder, maybe reception has Byard and Cyard? I was thinking Cyard might be mainline. I thought I had read something in the Lancaster cdc information that mainline no appointment needed. But what do I know without others helping us out here on PTO.

Our experience visiting went Great! It's all very organized. Smooth sailing and very professional every step of the way. Very little waiting for anything, if at all. Maybe the weather had something to do with it. We weren't dressed warm enough, that's for sure. Brrr!

There's a little outside walk between the visitation parking lot and the building where they do the security checks. Windy and Cold.

After Security checks, a comfortable bus picks you up and drops you off in front of your destination. After your visit, the bus picks you up and takes you back to check out.

Have you been able to schedule another visit? I tried calling in this morning, to get busy signals and other messages. I am calling the visiting number...hmmmm what to do?

So you got approved?? Yahooo!!!

I'm getting fustrated. The line is busy constantly.
What can we do? I'm open to trying anything at this point. There seems to be a problem with that line? I don't see many visitors when we're there. Been there 2 times in a row. It doesn't add up. Busy phones, not many visitors. um! Now I'm whining and I don't want to do that, so many blessings have happened. Gonna get past this little hump too :)

I pray he stays in Reception, but others are walking in without appointments for non-reception. Seems to be like 10 people sitting in chairs. Everybody moves thru fast.

But I should be getting approved by the end of this month so figured I would check early...btw I think i sent you a private message the other day...you must have sooooo many of them, that you missed mine:( ....hehe...popular..hehe!

Feel free to PM me about local details. I lived up by that prison for over 15 years, and now live just about 45 minutes from there.
It is located in a really civillized area, albeit, there is lots to get you into trouble, new gangs and drugs are all over up there.

hello everyone!!!! does anyone know if we are allowed to wear sandals (not flip flops) but just casual sandals??? also im curious to know....what colors are we allowed to wear??? this one girl had brown pants and they asked her to go change....how about pastel green....i know they dont allow forest green. i've been there a couple of times 2 visit my bf, but for some reason they always have something to say about my outfit :blah: i try to dress conservative and try to follow their dresscode but it always fails....i just dont know what to wear anymore  especially with summer  being around the corner...... i am not about to wear black on a hot sunny day.....

I know what you mean, I had the same problem. They were giving me a hard time for supposedly wearing pants that were too tight. BS! I'm not sure about the sandals, but color-wise they don't want you to wear anything that might even remotely look like an inmate, so green, brown and dark green are pretty much out of the question. I'd say better safe than sorry, you can wear pink, red, white, black, yellow, orange, .... Just make sure it doesn't look like camouflage or denim. Other than that you should be okay, I think. But maybe somebody else out here would happen to know about the sandals?

I believe you can not wear any type of shoes that have a soft sole. They once made me wear some casual shoes that were slip on but they were very thick. You know how they bend them when u get checked in. They just can not be able to bend them all the way.Hope this helps.

I really hate Lancaster because they just pick and choose who they want to mess with every weekend. You can wear tan pants, dark brown shirts but don't switch it around cuz then you look like the kitchen workers. You can not wear orange because they have orange suits for some of the prisoners. No blue of any kind. No gray except for those they choose to let get through but if your already having problems I'm sure you'll be like me and be one of the ones they don't let go through. No green and no camoflauge. Sandals are ok as long as they have a hard sole. I've been going for 9 months now and seen it all. make sure if you wear a tank top the straps are 2 inches wide. I think that about covers it all but really it just depends on who processes you. I always take an extra outfit just in case now cuz have you seen the clothes they give you to change into I don't want to see my man looking like I just crawled out of bed or the garbage can.

A lot of the stuff I see that they get on you for is color. So this is what colors I go by. Colors that I wear that are okay and have been ok everytime I've gone to visit.

Colors to wear: black, yellow, red, pink, purple, (any shades or red or purples) white is ok if it's not see-thru

Colors not to wear - brown, orange, green, blue, grey

As for shoes. I have wore heels or boots whenever I go, and don't get questioned for it.

and the biggie NO underwire bra's

Hi everyone, I'm new here. My bf was sent to Lancaster from Twin Towers in mid-February and he sent me the visiting form right away. He sent it signed and I sent it back the last week of February. I have a couple of questions, hopefully you guys can help!

How did you find out you were approved and how long did it take?
Does the prison send you a letter? Or do you have to call to find out? Or does the inmate have to tell you?

Thanks in advance for your help!:)

It will take from 3-4 weeks for you to get approved. Your boyfriend will get a pink notice(paper) that says you are approved. He then needs to write you to let you know. If you feel the day is getting close to your approval. You can call the visiting number and make an appointment. Depending on what yard he is in, will depend on what day you call in to make your appointment. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Hi, do I need to make an appointment? I'm visiting my dad at CSP-LA County, Lancaster. He's in D yard.

If he's in Reception Stage, for sures you would need to make an appointment first. There's certain days you can call for an appointment. Call the prison for that information though. Dial 0 and talk to the operator, she'll direct your call for somebody to help you with questions. If your application to visit was approved, they'll find you on the computer system and set you up with an appointment.

Visits are on Weekends and special Holidays.

I am currently on the Inmate Family Counsel at Corcoran 2. I have to say that it is very helpful and important to all of us to know someone that is a member or to try to become a member. I have personally have help change things for the better for the visitors as well as for the inmates at Corcoran. A member meets with (sometimes the Warden) higher up staff every other month.

Looking for a ride sometimes. I live in Canyon Country, off the 14 frwy. I have a car, runs hot and don't do well pulling hills so don't want to take a chance. I'm just looking for someone to drive up there with (will give money), as I can catch the metrolink back.

I do catch the metrolink there whenever I can, but you know how it is trying to get that appointment for the right time so that it will work with the metro schedule.

Hi ladies! I'm SO excited :D I FINALLY get to see my man tomorrow!!! He is still in reception at Cal St Lancaster so I had to make an appointment and I only get 1/2 hour through the glass, but at least I get to see his beautiful face ;)...
But I do have a couple of questions, if ya'll could help me out, I would really appreciate it! So, do all of those dress code restrictions apply?? Like, I can't wear blue jeans? What about an under wire bra?
Since it is not a contact visit, am I still not allowed to bring in my purse?
Any advice or tips that you all have about this visit would help me out SO much and I would be forever grateful to you ladies
Please help if you can! I am SO SO EXCITED, I cant wait to see him :yay:
Thank you!

All the dress code restrictions apply whether it's a window or contact visit. No blue jeans (and some prisons allow no denim at all), no underwire bras, no purse. Others can give you the specifics on Lancaster.

Yes the dress code restrictions still apply. just like cnk said. I will be visiting tomorrow also...black is the way to go (safe color). it's pretty simple. just go to the visiting processing center , fill out ya form, turn it in. they will call your name. anything else, holla!!!!!

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I got a letter from my husband yesterday, he informed me that I was approved. I have a couple of questions:

1. How do I know if I need to call to make an appointment? He's in Reception. Yard B.

2. What is the number to call to make an appointment?

3. What is a good time to set up the appointment?

If anyone has any other information please let me know. I don't know what to do. This is my first time doing this. Thank you!:)

Oh I'm sorry to hear your at lancaster too!! Visiting sucks! =[

You need to call to make an appointment and you can only call on Fridays. The earlier you call the better. You start calling at 8am and keep calling until you get thru. The phone number is 661 729 2000

If you have any questions please message me. I’ve only visited there once but I know the routine. My husband was just sent back so I will be going again.

Also, they have a very strict dress code. I learned the hard way lol

Join the thread that says Lancaster prison. Theres a lot of us!!

To me visiting doesnt suck, I visit B yard also. you call on friday starting at 8 am... but I always call around 10 and I get through in one shot and always get the time I want to visit, but do what is best for you..I have been visiting every since april and I haven't had a problem.. the Co' are very nice to me and I think Lancaster has been the best prison I visited...79 we should hook up so I can let them know on B yard.. you with me and to treat you good.

my boyfriend is in B yard at Lancaster too...I agree with braceface07, it is the best one that I have visited so far. It sucks that you can only talk for 1/2 hour, but that is nothin' new! The CO's are very nice and the visiting is way smoother than other places. Haven't been going since april, but I've been going for a month...it's pretty easy. Be careful what you wear too...let me know if you have any questions!

Yeah visiting is better there then other places but I still think it's horrible. The person after me didn't show up and they still wouldnt let us continue our visit. Now that's just rude! Those people just waisted a visit and we could have used it.

Anywho I'm going to try and go this weekend. Hopefully I get a good time. I'm not sure If he's still there. Havent received a letter.

So he's been medically cleared now how long will it take for him to mainline now? This was as of last week? Or will he stay in reception since he doesn't have alot of time left.

I didn't find them to be that strict at all. It is pretty much like all the other prisons that I have been to. Last Sunday was our first visit since he moved to Lancaster a few weeks ago. The food is worst than CSATF and they didn't have any water or real juice. So over all it was ok.

Try to make an appointment around 1pm when you take the metrolink. i was told that if you get the Metrolink early in the morning (from L.A. it leaves at 9am Saturday i believe) and get off in Palmdale from there take the #7 bus it leaves you at the corner of the prison. Just be sure you are outside waiting for the bus to take you back by 2pm so you can catch the train going back on time. I would give you the info on the "Friends Outside" but they are getting laid off from what i hear.

thank you cherished for the info, but my love has been to lancaster and is now at another prison. I did do the metrolink, the friends outside people do p/u. As you can see I posted this in May. I heard all of the friends outside at the prison are going to be laid off.

Sweetie any time that you don't have insurance that's never a good thing but I don't that think that it will affect you visiting your loved one;). Also I dont think that they look at your tags but once it expires take care of it because you don't want anything hindering you from visiting and I can tell you from experience that you dont want to get a traffic ticket and be sited for no insurance or tags because later on if you have to re-new your visit form and say if you have unpaid tickets they will run it and see that and they will disapprove you for visits until they are cleared. I hope you had a good visit sweetie and good luck in the future:D

There's a low cost (UNDER $400 a year) auto insurance program for California residents that's based on income and even offers installment plans. Here's some info:

What is the California Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program(CLCA)?
The primary goal of the California Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program (CLCA) is to provide an affordable auto insurance option to low-income good drivers.
California Law requires that all drivers be insured. However, too many low-income drivers remain uninsured because the costs of standard insurance premiums are beyond their financial reach.
The California Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program provides affordable liability only auto insurance that meets the state's financial responsibility laws.
The program is administered by the California Automobile Assigned Risk Plan and policies are written by California Licensed Insurance Companies.
The CLCA program is not subsidized by taxpayers. Rates are set and adjusted annually in each county so that the premiums collected are sufficient to cover losses and expenses in each county.
The California Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program is now available statewide. Click below to see the statewide premium rates by county:
CLCA Premium Rates by County (see chart): (http://www.insurance.ca.gov/0100-consumers/0060-information-guides/0010-automobile/lca/upload/Annual_Premium_Per_County_Form_Final-2.pdf)

Who is eligible for the California Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program?

To be eligible for the CLCA program: you must meet the following requirements:

Be able to meet low-income requirements (1 person = $26,000, 2 persons = $35,000, 4 persons = $53,000, 8 persons = $89,000)
Meet the good driver standard (no more than one at-fault property damage only accident or more than one point for moving violation in the past three years)
Applicant has not had an at fault accident involving bodily injury or death in the past 3 years.
Be at least 19 years old
Have been continuously licensed to drive for the past three years
Have a vehicle currently valued for $20,000 or less.
Other information

Installment plans are available for as little as 15%, with the balance payable in up to six payments.
Optional Uninsured Motorists and Medical Payments coverage are also available; for more information about these coverages call 1-866-60-Auto-1.
A 25% Surcharge is added to the base rate for unmarried, male drivers ages 19-24.
How do I sign up?
This program is administered by the California Automobile Assigned Risk Plan. To receive more information about how to sign up, please call the CLCA hotline at: 1-866-602-8861.

OMG!!!I was in the same situation as you in regards to the tags. My tags expired in Sept. Some officers do check. On my last visit the officer told me that i couldn't park the car inside because my car would be towed away due to the expired tags. Luckily i had just received them in the mail but just hadn't put them on. So he let me.You just might get lucky but to be honest it is too risky. By the way i never have been asked for insurance, so you don't have to worry about that.

Hi everyone! I have a quick question about visiting at Lancaster. I have visited at other prisons but never at Lancas. How is the visiting process? Long waits? How about dress code? Are they extra strick on clothing?? Do they have Friday visits? Oh and visiting times are 8-3 right? Thanks in advance!:)

Impatient1

Hi,
No visits on Fridays unfortunately, and visits are 9 to 3 I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also, visiting times depend on whether your inmate is in reception or mainlined. If he's in reception, then you'll have to call and make an appointment on the specified day to see him on the weekend. My husband is in reception on A yard and i have to call on Friday a.m. to get the appt. If he's mainlined, then you visit without an appointment, but I'm not familiar with any other details of that visiting, sorry.
As for clothing, this is what someone else wrote here on PTO: Dress like you're going to lunch at a nice restaurant with your boyfriend's mother. In other words, no skin, nothing tight, no spaghetti straps even if you have a sweater on over it (they made me change). Nothing even remotely low cut on top. Nothing sleeveless. Pretty much everyone I've seen wears black. It looks like we are all going to a funeral, seriously. And wear layers or be sure to check the weather report. It seems that Lancaster has two temps, super hot and very very cold!
Good Luck!

Visiting is from 8:30 to 3:00. I have visited many prisons in CA and at Lancaster it is so differnt. As you enter the prison you are greeted by a guard or guards and you are ask to open up your trunk and glove box for them to look into. You will do the same as you exit. I don't think they are hard on the dress code at all. I see ladies wearing tight leggings and skinny jeans. They do trip off shoes! They have to have hard soles.
Have a great visit!

It really depends on how long it takes to get approved. I got approved in about a month but i heard some people complain that it took longer with them.
