I just watched the channel 8 evening news out of Dallas and they, in conjunction with Dallas Morning News(?), are doing an expose of the lack of psyc care in the Dallas jails and the fraud (falsifying time sheets) just out and out neglect of patient/inmates (1-2 min. psyc evals). There is to be a piece in the above paper in the morning for those who care to access it.
This has the potential of blowing the lid off the proverbial can of worms. I've got my fingers crossed!

Things like this seem to rarely outrage people unless they have a loved one directly involved. I wish more people would pay attention to these issues.

I agree, most likely, in general, the segement wiil be shugged off as, there just inmates anyway. And fraud in the government system is being taken as, oh well that's expected when it's a such a low level.

But, that is yet to be seen, until it's aired/printed.

THAT MAY WELL BE TRUE, BUT ANY EXPOSURE IS BETTER THAN NO EXPOSURE-AND JUST MAYBE SOMEONE LIKE AN ATTORNEY SOMEWHERE (THEY ARE NOT ALL BAD) WILL SEE IT AS A WORTHY CAUSE AND WILL GET INVOLVED

In Dallas any news of fraud will cause some heads to roll.

JUst a while back they did a story of School cafeteria workers taking home left over bread. You would have thought they held up a bank.

I have to agree wtih you Sherri... while I agree that this won't singlehandedly change the psychiatric care of inmates... at least someone recognized it as even being a noteworthy issue.... and who knows.... Any lil' bit of information getting out to the greater public on what REALLY goes on within the system is good news.... People in the Dallas area may think they are just inmates... but at least those who thought "they are getting the treatment to rehabilitate them" may not be able to cling to that delusion anymore.... Who knows how many people have loved ones with psychiatric illnesses who know the truth about what a lack of appropriate treatment means in how an individual thinks and functions....

Part 2 is tonight, the write up at www.dallasmorningnews.com (towards bottom)(you can also access the news transcript)is very good. Tonight they are focusing in on the "dr.s" who claim to be working(time sheets) but are caught on camera leaving early, having jobs elsewhere. And more on the "record" keeping and treatment "BAC"(bare ass on concret) some inmates recieving this "treatment" for as long as 25 days at a time, lack of proper meds and etc. I can assure you, the fine taxpayers of Dallas county will be properly p.o'ed over this. There will be another article in the above paper tomarrow. One inmate, having been just assest 15 yrs TDC was shown stating he was glad to be going down, anything to get out of that place! Sickening!!

Shoot, I just saw this and the special report isn't on the Dallas News web site anymore. Did anyone by chance keep a copy of it?
