I have not gotten a call from North CTF

I went to see my son on Sunday 12/02 at first they had no visits for all Northern Mexicans and Whites on CTF North. Well I ended up leaving but came back to fill out a form to let him know I came, well when I was on my way back a woman informed me about the cancelled visits and told me they were rioting. When I got back they ended up cancelling all visits on all yards. The families that were already visiting had to leave in the middle of there visit. If anyone has heard anything more please let me know thank you...........a concered mom:(

I heard from my firend that it was a riot that took place in a dorm on the A yard and it involved whites and Northern hispanics..so i am sure no one will get a call for a couple of days sense they tend to lock everyone down do to domino affect but i am hoping i will hear from him soon my man is @ north on the B yard so i am hoping all is well my friend said she seen the ambulance out there i don't know if this is true or not just what i heard..

If you call the prison lockdown hotline it will tell you that currently on north A yard, tha northern hispanics and whites are on visitation lockdown. It also states that south and central are not on visiting lockdown. The following information can be checked by calling 1 800 374 8474

No that was updated sunday when that happend but B yard went off later that same day, and i heard that recording and it wont update until friday and from the information i got both yards went off A and B yards.

I also talked to his counsler and he told me that this lock down was going to be for a while and that he has no idea about visiting but usually that will also be affected and possibly no visits during this lock down! he told me not to worry cause they are locked down and no one is going out to yard to possibly have a much larger riot..i am praying for it to all get better:(

Thats good to know Bam cuz I have a friend who wants to visit SOUTH YARD this weekend and she didn't know if they were going to get visits. And you know thats a long drive not to get a visit. Glad you got a call. The not knowing is the most difficult part. Hope you other ladies get a call soon.

as far as i know everybody is on lockdown,but probably whites and nortenos will be affected longer with no visitations, the rest of the inmates did not get involved in the riot.

They just updated the visiting line for this weekend:
South & Central: normal visiting program
North: no visits for northeners or whites (both A and B yard)

Guess I'm not visiting this weekend after all. To everyone who can, enjoy your visits!!! And if you're going just on Sunday I recommend calling the visiting line again on Saturday afternoon/evening to be safe.

I called and called today........and actually got results! Thanks to Officer Garrett!!! She was so awesome, unfortunately.......my news wasn't as awesome. My fiance is now in the "hole":( Not only that, but we were planning on getting married next weekend. Ooops! Change of plans, damn this sucks! I hope everyone's loved ones are okay.

I hate it and i am here waiting and praying for his transffer he is going to san quentin level two, but seems like maybe the riot could be holding him back i don't know...i just know level two is like south at ctf and i know things would be better for us if he was home but next to that san quentin is our best option right now:(

Mrs. Juan......my suggestion to you is to be very persistant about it, don't give up. I tried calling Tommy's counselor, and had no luck, so I kept calling inmate records until I got the information I needed. I hope this helps!:thumbsup:

Reply to Prison Boys' 12/07 message and to others who might be concerning about Correctional Training Facility at Soledad: Yes, there was a "riot" per se (not really bad, but enough for them to shut things down). Whites and Hispanics. Apparently there's a "posturing" going on on the yards and they're trying to find out who's behind it. Visitations have been cancelled straight across the board (although I was recently told it might only be North yard); phone calls definitely. Mail is coming in and going out, but slowly as they're "scanning" for things that might give them information. A correspondence I received today stated it might last three months, but you know how the rumors ALWAYS get blown out of proportion. Just a reminder to always call the 800-374-8474 (then 1...2...2) visiting hotline for information before you try to visit. I have to fly 1400 miles one-way for a visit. Things have been so bad this past year I haven't seen my fellow in a year-and-a-half (many problems including surgeries, moves, then two lockdowns since he's arrived CTF). Don't know if this will affect holiday visitations, but you can always call directly to the visitation office at CTF (main number 831-678-3951, don't know the extension) and see if they'll give you information. They've been great to me, so it's always worth a try. I always wonder why people can't play nice in the sandbox? Don't they realize how it affects everyone else? But where they are, they probably don't care. Too sad, as it affects friends and family greatly. Anyway ... hope this helps.

This is a reply to Prison Boys' concerned email about the current CTF lockdown. I've been told that it's definitely caused by the Hispanics and Whites on the yards. North is shut down. No calls, I've been told no visits. Mail does go in and out, but slowly due to "scanning" for pertinent information. Correspondence I received this weekend indicated it may last three months which I'll believe when I see it. Rumors always get blown out of proportion. Best thing is to call CTF's visitation office there and talk directly to someone. And to always call the visiting hotline at 800-374-8474 (then 1 -- 2 -- 2) before visiting. I hope this doesn't affect holiday visits. I have to fly one-way 1400 miles and to come and then not get a visit, no matter the allowances for out-of-state people, would be horrible. Good luck!

I have tried and I have been calling and calling because I also need some important information about Juan due to our 1 1/2 year old son being very ill he has pneumonia in his left lung. And the doctors are in need of information and they are not helping me at all and not even letting the hospital get anything all they tell us is that they can't share that info due to them not knowing it is me. Which is crazy because I put my SSN on the visiting form and they asked for it and then they said okay but that still didn't help. Ladies I am in urgent need of this information and they aren't helping me at all I keep callin and callin and nothing.I have sent out tons of mail and I still haven't heard anything! What should I do please I need to do something quickly!:angry:

:( Oh wow girl, I'm sorry to hear about your son. Gosh, I almost want to call the prison for you! I think at times I may get a bit bitchy.......but it works. It drives me absolutely NUTS how much authority and power a stupid CDCR badge gives a person!!:blah: Honestly, I would just say: "look, I'm tired of getting tossed around like a rag doll. My son is extremely ill and the doctors are demanding information about Juan's health" and if you still don't get a response........then ask to speak to the supervisor (or whom ever) and do not hang up! I don't know where your son is but You can call records and find out if he is still at ctf and if his housing has changed. My brother was supposed to be Santa Claus at the party but I'm guessing they won't let him now since he's locked down :(. Hopefully someone else will fill in!

Do you have your brother's mailing address yet? If so, that will help you figure out which yard he is on. If it is PO Box 705 that is North. There should also be a 2-letter abbreviation (e.g. WA or SB) which will tell you his building. Let us know if you need help figuring out what the abbreviations mean.

If you don't have his address yet you can call the prison and ask for Records and they should be able to tell you.

My husband has just arrived there probably a week now, he's in shasta hall im not all that familiar with this but i got a letter from him yesterday which was actually written on monday he mentioned that they were still on lock down and that they were interviewing the guys, since he wasnt there when it originally jumped off they put him and his celly back in the cell and keep the interviewing.

my baby called me yesterday he is in north yard in shasta sorry ladies he is a southern hispanic....

My husband is on north and he called today and Tuesday - wasn't home but he left a message during the 2 sec collect call "name time" - like "i'm OK, love you".

It sounds like just the whites and northeners are still on lockdown since folks are getting phone calls. I'm happy for you guys,:) and sad for the rest of us:( . I know all the guys are saying they think this lockdown will be long but I'm sure hoping they're wrong. At least the no visits part. I miss my brother and can't wait to talk to him. Knowing him he's already filed a 602 for racial discrimination since he's being locked down on the basis of his skin color even though he wasn't anywhere near the trouble!

I heard that the COs illegally put an unclassified white in a cell with a classified Northern Hisp (who is white but on paper is a northerner) - and that started everything - then this tumbled over to the whites retaliating and attacking the northerners, etc in a dorm. I wouldn't doubt that putting the white in with the northerner was done on purpose to cause trouble. Unclassified inmates are never put with classified - that's a no brainer! It's even in the CDC rules and regs. So I always wonder if its a sabotage by the administration - especially near christmas. Anyone that visited hear any more specific info?? or can affirm any of this. And yes I know that "other" people read this site.

As sad as I am for myself not being able to visit, my heart breaks for the kids who were scheduled to go to the Christmas party and get to celebrate with dad. I hate this.

this sucks my man got transfered to ctf north last monday after the lockdown and he is a norhtern hispanic so i cannot visit him i wanted to see him before christmas so he would know that he is thought about out here on christmas and not forgotten...what kind of christmas cards can be sent and what is the quickest way to find out if the inmates are off lockdown?

It seems like someone is always on lockdown and we may never really know why. I would rather leave the blame / politics to them on the inside. It does'nt matter what holiday it is, it's always sad to me that you can't just pick up the phone and call or you can't just go and visit anytime. Christmas is not the same when any family memeber/ loved one is not with you. I hope the lockdown ends soon so we can all go back to somewhat normal! I have heard it will still be awhile. You can call the visit hotline or call the prison and jump through the hoops.

Good morning everyone. My husband is at CTF, Central and has not called in over 1 week, can anyone tell me if they have received calls from their loved one frm CTF on Christmas Eve or Christmas day? My nephew is in the North Facility. He called us all on Monday, so that would have been Christmas Eve. I am sure you'll get a call soon.

My loved one is also in North facility but he did call yesterday the 25th.
He did mentioned that they were not allowed to use the phones till night time cuz they were working on the plumbing and they didn't want people on the yard.. He also said that some of them are still on lockdown..due to the riot..

Good morning, thanks for the response. I just called the mail room, someone had posted the number and I spoke to the mail clerk. I told her his location and then asked if mail was being processed because I wasn't hearing anything back. She said that at CTF they are backed up by only a few days, and expected that to be cleared this week. She also told me that the mail is going out daily, which confirms what you said, YOU'RE receiving mail. I know he has the stamps, because I sent him 60 sheets so far, from the Post Office and she told me that those do get in, I was afraid they weren't. The only thing I can think of is paper, maybe he is out of paper. I'll wait a little while longer, I'll continue my 2 per day this week up through Sunday and then sit back and wait and see what happens. But at this point if they are continuing the lockdown and he's out of paper, this could be a problem. Sadie80 had posted the CTF Mail Policy (thank you Sadie80), and they cannot receive the stationary and writing paper from outside, they have to purchase that at the Canteen, so unless he can find paper and is out, I'm stuck waiting. That's the situation as far as I can assess it right now. Geez!

I just tried to put a thread through on the subject but don't know if it went through. If I'm not mistaken, Union Supply lets you order music. Not sure. I know one of the companies does music, I've sent my husband stuff through them.

I'm not sure what's going on with your mail--I'm so sorry! As for sending in paper, you're right that we can't. Hopefully his celly has some, or someone else can slip it under the door. Alternatively, you can write him some very short notes in pencil on regular pieces of paper--the guys then just erase what you wrote and recycle the paper. They're very creative that way! :D

While I've had good luck with mail getting in lately, I've been sending mostly cards and postcards, which always get in faster. Maybe you can send him a postcard today saying you're worried because you haven't heard from him, and tell him to write back right away. You can actually send one directly from the usps website--it'll mail out the next day. Postcards typically get in within a week or so, and sometimes faster. That's usually the best way to get a message in fast.

someone did tell me to send a post card too cause its not much to read and that those do get processed quicker but i havent tried it

With postcards there's nothing for them to open and search for contraband, so they are processed much faster for sure.

Thank you everyone, today I wrote him a letter telling him that if he had to use "toilet" paper to send me a message, do it! (smile).

Also today I called and the CTF-North is on moderate lockdown, I asked what that meant and the person told me they were giving each of the inmates TB tests. So I guess their doing that now, after the riots and checking everyone's status with TB.

Hello this is my first post. Is there a phone number for the mail room? My son was just tranferred there a few weeks ago. I ordered him a quarterly package and they said they sent it Dec 27th. From what I am reading everyone is saying he won't receive it. He arrived there without any supplies, they never gave him back his property when they transferred him. I wanted to call the mail room and ask some questions.

Yes,my son is at North. His dorm is North SA. I have figured out from all of you that that means Shasta building B yard. Am I correct? He is a white so he is still on lockdown. He doesn't know what is going on just what i have been writing him. He just arrived there Dec 14th. This is all new to him and me too.

Does the mail seem to be getting to him about 4 days after arrival? Can you tell? I've been writing the dates on my letters internally and then just before sealing it, I write a PS of when I mailed it. I want my honey to write back and tell me the date he has received which letter. I'm noticing about a 4 day lag for processing I think. I spoke to him today and he was fine, he's going to check all the mail he has received this past week and call me in the morning to tell me which one is the "latest". It seems everything I wrote two weeks ago, just arrived this past week. Guess that's not too bad. How's your son's mail doing?

My son seems to get his mail within about 7-10 days. I do alot of those postcards. When I write him a long letter with important details and include postage embossed enevelopes I express mail it. It cost $16.25 but it gets to him in three days. I don't know why that is ,but it works.

I got a letter yesterday and he didn't make it sound like there had been any movement or discussion about it ending anytime soon. I feel your pain, our last visit was Thanksgiving day and I miss him so much! I hate having to do all our communication through the mail, and the inevitable confusion since he gets our mail before we get his. So frustrating!!

I've got all my fingers and toes crossed this will end soon!!!!

Hi there, welcome to CTF! I wish I had better news for you, but right now the whites and northerners at CTF North are locked down, and have been since the first weekend in December. Nobody knows for sure how much longer, but all predictions are that this won't be over any time soon. While CTF normally allows visiting during lockdowns this time they aren't--we've been without visiting for about 6 weeks now. They also aren't allowed out to yard so no phone calls either. So if your husband is classified in either of those groups then what he told you is unfortunately true.

I suppose the only good news I can give you is that mail seems to be getting to them pretty quickly--about a week to a week and a half for letters. And they might be able to receive books in their cells soon.....maybe.

I'm so sorry to share this with you, and I definitely feel your pain since my loved one is part of this lockdown. Hang in there!

Hi my name is Kimberly and I am new to the PTO family as well as the prison life.. I was hoping that someone would be able to help me understand how this work? :confused: I received a letter 2 weeks ago from my husband and he was so excited to finally be getting out of NKSP reception and hitting the main land so he could finally get to use the phone, in his letter he informed me that he was transferring to SVSP but I recently found out that he was at CFT - North. When I called records they confirmed he was there and gave me his housing #, but I haven't received any phone calls or letters so I am now starting to get worried about him. Can someone please update me on what to expect and how long it will be before I will hear from him, I have been sending letters to him everyday so he knows that I am thinking about him every minute of everyday and that I am missing him more and more as the days just seem to get longer and lonelier.. :( My husband is housed in TD77U (whatever that means):confused: :o Also is CFT where he will be staying or will he be transferred over to SVSP, I don't understand why he has to see yet another counselor? and I don't understand why he is in the North facility I was told this facility was a level 3 and he is classified as a level 1?? This is all so confusing and not knowing is killing me inside!!

So my husband has been up for transfer a couple of times and i called his counselor and he told me they do not give any info out on the inmates and that he wasnt even supposed to be talking to me. I had been trying to get a hold of him but he never returned my calls, anyway he even told me he knew who i was talking bout but not once did he ask my husbands info. who would i talk to, to find anything out about him or his transfer and is it really true that the counselors are not supposed to talk to us?

I am not sure about the whole couciler thing but my husband just told me that his councler told him they are stopping transfers right now because of some California cdc budget crisis. I am not sure how much truth that has (as it does come from cdc counclers though.

I was reading through this thread and I noticed some people were thinking that their loved ones may be out of paper during this lockdown, well what I do when I write a letter to my love is I add another sheet in with it and just on the first like I write a short comment like "Oh, Billy says Hi!" and it goes thru to him and he just crosses that off and uses that to write me back. And with the quarterly packages I am not sure how true this is but my love heard that if you send food with it they are forced to give it to the inmate because it will expire, but they have 40 days to hold it. I am not sure about the quarterly package, but I know the paper works because I get letters from him with that. I hope this helps.

Can a new thread be started that is only about lockdown issues, fights, etc. so we can go directly to it and not have to read other things. The other things are important - but I have to search for "lockdown/incident" info.

No, they do not get to use the phones if they're locked down. The phones at North are outside on the yards, and where they're locked down they don't get yard time, so no access to the phones.

Yesterday I got a phone call at 2:42pm from Unknown Caller on my caller ID. This should have been him as nothing else registers that way on my phone. But I wasn't home and missed him by 2 minutes, I was picking up my mail.

My honey is classified as Other. I received two phone calls this morning from him and he is at North. Just wanted to let people know that some folks are able to get into the yard. He called this morning. They were going in at 11:00 and he's going to try to get out this afternoon to call me again. We'll see.

I am not sure. I think they are on constant lockdown. No phone calls, but mail still seem to be working.

If anyone has an update on CTF North lockdown it would be greatly appreciated. Today is March 28th, 2008.

I spoke to my guy today and he said all 3 races or classifications were on lockdown at North; Whites, Northern Hispanics and Southern Hispanics. All of those groups are on a lockdown. That's all he told me. I can't imagine what visiting is going to be like in that one room with 225 capacity when the lockdown is lifted.

The Southern Hispanics are not on lockdown. My son is a southern hispanic and on Monday when he called he said they were off lockdown.

On 4/4 there was a statewide lockdown... mostly for all hispanics.
We had a thread that was dedicated to this particular weekend..."Statewide Lockdown"

North A yard--"FD" stands for Fremont Dorm, and is one of the buildings on North A yard. Depending on how your man is classified he may or may not be off lockdown..sounds like the southerners came off, but northeners and whites at north are still locked down.

I am not sure at this time... it depends on what your man is classified at... and he's in North, SOuth, or Central Yards.

visiting was crazy this weekend, i think they went up to numbers 210 or something like that. they terminated like 100 people. it was crazy and frustrating. they really need to open up that second visiting room.

I know they were lockdowned for a day last week. but i dont think they are now but it depends on where he is housed.

I got a call from north about 10 a.m. yesterday (sunday) morning and everything was OK at that time.

Now wait a minute, I thought everyone was finally off lockdown. I didnt visit this weekend and only get one call a week, so I guess I'm behind.

again - I got a call from my husband (he's black) on north sunday a.m. (I missed his call Sat a.m.) and he said everything was fine - whites and hisp were off lockdown - so if anything happened it had to have happened after that??????

I get lots of letters from him and I know he would call me the minute he had access to a phone.

The whites on b yard have been allowed visits again for 3 weeks (this coming weekend will be the 3rd weekend), but they have not been allowed back to yard, so no phone calls. This means, assuming all stays the same, your son should be able to get your visit, but still can't call you.

It's hard to plan visits from so far away since things definitely can change at any time. But if you make sure and call the 800# visiting line before you leave to double check you should be safe to visit...at least for right now!

Well I was planning my first visit there te see my son. I can only pray it will be a short lock down but I get the feeling it won't be. We were going to drive 8 hours to visit the weekend of the 7th and 8th. I will keep checking and calling the visiting line. Thank for all of the up date information. it really helps so much. It makes me feel a little more connected to my sonand what is happening in his world. I write to him about this place and he is grateful that I have something to hlep me through.

Thirteen inmates from the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries after three separate riots broke out Friday afternoon.


The three melees, each involving 100 or more inmates, occurred during a five-hour span and were broken up by correctional officers.
One inmate flown to a San Jose-area trauma center had serious stab wounds, said correctional Lt. Gary Gilman. The other 12 were taken to Salinas-area hospitals. All of the inmates were taken back to prison after treatment, Gilman said.
The first riot started about 3 p.m. when several hundred inmates broke out in Lassen Hall, a Level III (high-medium security) general population housing unit at Unit V, north of the facility, Gilman said.
Less than an hour later, another riot started at Fremont Dorm, a Level II general population housing unit. The riot involved about 150 inmates, he said.
The last riot started at 7:46 p.m. in the dining hall and involved about 100 kitchen workers.
The prison opened in 1948 and houses 6,500 minimum- and medium-security inmates.

Yes, I would try and get a hold of his counselor. Odds are he's fine, but the not knowing is enough to drive you crazy. Keep trying that counselor until you get through, and let us know what you find out.
