Can anyone tell me is someone is in the SHU can they take both phone priviledges and visits away? Or can they only take one or the other. I am thinking of jumping in the car with my baby for a 7 hour drive since I have not heard from him in a week and I can not seem to get any answers when I call up to this place. I am so worried but do not want to drive that far and spend the money, etc. if I will still have no answers and not be able to see him. Please help someone??!!!! I need advice here. I know I am freaking out, I can not help it. He calls me at least every other day and 7 days with no word is scary. Thanks a bunch:angry:  :(

There is a good chance he could be in the SHU when they fall out of their normal routine. When my son went in the SHU, I called and asked for his counselor and asked if he could get a message to him to call us and he said he would. I eventually got it out of him that he was in the SHU. He called us two days later. He said the reason he hadn't called sooner was because he thought they were letting him out in a couple of days. Not the case.

I'm sure they can take your phone and visits away as punishment. I might consider waiting for a letter from him or calling the Warden to determine his status before you spend that amount of time and gas driving in there.

When I was in MGTN I saw visits with SHU inmates in the normal visiting room (wearing orange jumpsuit and handcuffs) and I also saw people (family) taken to the SHU for SHORT (about 15 minutes) visits.

I'd say call first.

You could call again and ask to speak to the chaplain. Explain your concerns and hopefully they can help you out.

When I was down Morgantown visiting my man I saw visitors being escorted down to the SHU to visit, and then sometimes they bring the inmate up and you have to visit at the table right in front of the CO'S desk. But then I have also seen visitors be turned away because their inmate was in the SHU and they had to go home. I hope everything works out for you guys.

Seems as though calling the facility for needed info can be difficult
