Does anyone know if you can use GTL and just have a cell phone... not a land-line? My man is in the Washington County jail in Arkansas right now.
I have checked out their website and I can't find the info. I am looking for. Does anyone receive collect calls (using GTL) from the jail on their cell phones???
Please advise! Any and all info. will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

Yes you can have the call come to your cell phone. I set up a pre-paid account with GTL, and have had no problems. Hope this helps...

What cell phone service/carrier do you have? I have Alltel and when I asked them if I could do that today they said no.

I'm (obviously) not in Arkansas - but have LOTS of experience with GTL - it doesn't matter who your cell provider is and ANY cell provider is going to tell you that you CAN'T get a collect call on it - cause technically, you can't! You CAN however set up a pre-paid account with GTL I've done it on 6 or 7 different cell phones for the last 5 years or so. Just call them - some people have been complaining about them but I personally have never had a problem with them and have found the staff there mostly helpful. They will ask you if it' s a cell phone - tell them yes and then they're gonna tell you something like "if the call is dropped by interference, your provider, etc., they're not responsible and won't refund any money".

877-650-4249...put that # in your cell phone...you are going to need it with GTL!! thats their customer service number..you can set up the account through them and make payments and ask any questions. they are usually pretty nice. once you dial the number press 1 for english..then wait and press 5...they are always really busy so it says you have to setup a call back...they actually do call you back in about an hour. but i have an alltel cellphone and my man has no problems calling it. also 800-489-4500 ext 4040 is the number for a supervisor...you gonna need that number too!

Your cell service will always tell you that. But, what GTL does is it "intercepts" the collect call at the point where your cell service would normally have that automated voice saying they can't accept collect calls... all you have to do is call the 800 # that was posted below (previously) and put a minimum of $25 on there using a Visa or Mastercard and GTL will be ready to go and accept his call next time he calls you. If you don't have a Visa or Mastercard you can always buy one of the Pre-paid Visa cards at Wal-Mart and put money on them there. GTL is AWESOME! I was told the same thing by my cell carrier and I am thrilled to death that I get to receive calls from my honey on my cell now!!! I only put $50 on my GTL account and I have gotten to talk to my man about 8 times for 10-14 minutes each time. I am THRILLED! Good luck to you. Hope this helps! :)

That just proves that GTL is not working right on my phone. I paid 50 on my account and only got to talk to him 4 times. It works perfectly on his mom's phone but not on mine! Go figure!

Well, I guess GTL isn't as good as I was thinking, either. Their payment system was "down" all this past weekend and lately I've been having to call a different # to make "manual" credit card payments. It's kind of a pain in the @ss... but then again I am thinking that **NOTHING** is going to run as smoothly as I would like while my man is away... it seems like to do ANYTHING you have to jump through 50 million hoops--- even phone calls! Oh well. I am happy just to be able to hear his voice every now and then... I am grateful for what I have!

If you want to receive calls from most (maybe all) county jails in Arkansas, and this definitely does include Washington County Detention Center and/or most (maybe all) DOC units, and this definitely does include McPherson Unit, then call this number:
800-483-8314
Follow the prompts and you have a credit/debit card, you can get a pre-paid account set up where you can receive calls:D . From WCDC, anyone locked up there can call your phone. From McPherson, the inmate must get your number approved before any calls can be made to it and this takes awhile sometimes because the number lists are approved every few months. Whether or not it is a cell phone never comes up. The calls last for fifteen minutes at both places. I'm not sure of the charge per call. It's four or five dollars. I live in Fayetteville and get calls from McPherson which is in Newport three and a half hours away so it's definitely not a local call but I'm not sure if that even matters.
Before you set up a pre-pay account, make sure that GTL is the provider at the unit where your loved one is. For this call 866-230-7761. They have an automatic call back system that will call you back when someone is available instead of being on hold forever:argh: .
We try to limit our calls to twice a week and a $25 payment to my pre-pay account last 2 or 3 weeks. Try writing letters. It seems like it is more special:heart: , especially to the person locked up. Just a suggestion:) .
Peace! I know what you're going through.

it makes a big difference how far you are and the area code. my man is also in washington county and it is a 479 area code and i'm in a 870 area code (south arkansas) and my calls are 13.96 a call!!!!! so i'll be glad when adc come and get him so he will be in a 870 area code hopefully
