I am trying to Western Union money into my boyfriend's account. When I try it online it says something about an error. I called this morning to do it over the phone but the lady said that he wasn't listed as in the system. He just tranferred to Donaldson on Thursday from Kilby. Would that be the problem? I called Donaldson to get an account number and they told me to call back tomorrow. But the point of Western Unioning it was to get it to him tomorrow. Isn't his AIS# his account number. Is this normal?

I'm not familiar with the Western Union program as I always send mine snail mail! But, I would imagine that definitely has something to do with it!! Could be he has to get his "lists" set up and approved before he can receive them! I would check back tomorrow and see if that's what it is! Good luck with it! Let us know what you find out!!

The western union is a new thing! They gave us a brochure at visitation this weekend. I'm not sure how to use it. But, like Pepper when you find out how let us know!

I just used the Western Union site to send $ to my loved ones trust fund. You just click on the link "send money to an inmates trust fund"...It will give you a drop down list of all the facilities that accept payments...Click on "Alabama Dept. of Correctons"...put in the amount you are sending...the state you are sending from...then the inmates AIS#...attention, your loved ones name...then enter your payment information...& send. There is a link whee you can have a live chat with a WU representative if you need help. You can also call 1-800-634-3422 to make payment by phone. Depending on the amount you send...determines what your transaction fee is. The less you send the less your fee is.

I've recently used Western Union. It is much quicker than sending a money order. The inmate account number is actually the [AIS# and the Last Name]. Type it in like it's one word I used all caps and no spaces in between and it worked perfectly. I don't know if it's case sensitive or not. Hope this helps.

I just used the Western Union link on this board right up there ^^^^ and sent money to Wes for Christmas. So I did everything you guys said...It ddidn't let me choose his prison, only thing I could choose was Alabama DOC, but I chose that and put his AIS number and his name like this: 023456SMITH as the account number. It was eight bucks or something. Anyway, I'll know Sunday when he calls if it went through because they get their print out tomorrow morning when it's time for store orders, and he'll be able to see th balance go up...or not...lol...but I did print my receipt.

Just letting you guys know it appears to work. I needed to send it fast because he orders tomorrow and then the store will be closed for holidays for the next two weeks or so....and I didn't know all that. So that's the only good reason to wire money...it's expensive. Otherwise send a money order for fifty cents plus a stamp...

Just wanted to report that I am hearing that money transferred to ADOC inmates is usually on their books within a matter of hours.

For once I can give a big thumbs up for an ADOC decision, this is certainly progress!

It's very reasonable to use too.... I believe it's a $3.95 fee for amounts under $50, $6.95 for $50-100, and $8.95 for $100 and somewhat over - not sure about much more than that and I didn't check it REAL thoroughly, but I did check it out for $10, $20, $50, and $100 payments and those were the fees it gave me. Very nice! :)

When You Are Doing Western Union You Need To
Use His Ais# And Then His Last Name Behind It.
Example: 123456 Jones
This Is The Way They Told Me To Do It And It Works For Me.
If That Doesn't Work Call The Facility He Is In And Ask Someone In Classification. I Find They Are The Most Helpful.
