View Full Version : Please Help Me...can I stop them from sending my son Out of State? az-tears 10-21-2003, 05:00 PM Tucson prison in arizona is moving my son to texas in 48 hours ! is there anyway I can stop this? He is all I have its to far for me to go visit.:fb: :fb: ati2d 10-21-2003, 09:20 PM Why is he being moved to Texas? Where was the crime committed? How can they move him across state lines? That may answer your question. az-tears 10-21-2003, 11:03 PM the crime was in Arizona , he has already been sentenced to 5yrs and has been at Tucson,AZ. for 5 months now! The warden called me so I could talk to my son before they transferred him and about another 100 inmates to Texas in 30 hours now! I have tried calling everyone , but everyone has left for the day! Warden says the prison is too over crowded and for the safety of the Co's and Inmates some must be moved! My son has a good job in their -no write ups- staying out of the political stuff inside, he always says he's just a visitor not a resident so he was going to keep his nose clean. I just dont understand how they can move him when it will be such a hardship on me and him thats all we have our letters and visit's because he cant call CenTexLyn 10-21-2003, 11:26 PM There are a number of states that have had to resort to contracting out the housing of offenders, and ironically enough, it is the ones that maintain a low profile and stayed out of trouble that are frequently at the top of the list for transfer- reason being that they are a low risk for both transport and housing in the other entity. Most agencies through the US do not make any housing decisions with family or visitation in mind...different reasons exist for that, but often times it has to do with too many inmates from particular areas with not enough beds in that area to accomodate everybody's request, so in order to avoid litigation on claims of discrimination, they simply don't assign for convenience. And before anyone lays into me on that, yes, I realize that the lack of regular family contact would seem to fly in the face of rehabilitative goals. I'm not saying I agree with the practices, but simply offering the rationale behind some of those decisions. As far as who you could possibly contact, my first suggestion would be your local congress-critter. They might be willing to make a call on behalf of a constituent...no promises that even that would work though. mamawen 10-22-2003, 11:01 AM Cen is right. Try contacting your local congresscitter...that's a good one. good luck and I'm so sorry this has happened to you. A FEW MONTHS LATER THEY TRANSFERED HIM CLOSER TO HOME. TomT 01-30-2005, 11:15 AM Hi! The state prisons are too full so more private prisons are being built. Even though he is bing moved to Texas, he is still awarded to the state of Arizona. We have about 150 inmates that move about once a moth to orther prisons. One reason is that most prisons are understaff, instead of 150 inmates to take care of, I have 200 at one time by myself. It's not easy to take care of 200 people by yourself but I do it. I know it's a hardship for you but not much you can do. I do feel sorry for you. TomT kim48 01-30-2005, 04:32 PM Just wanted to say I'm so sorry about your son's transfer. I wish you luck.
