Good Morning all - 2:30am here in CT! Can't sleep. I'm in research mode for the last month, and will continue to be till my guy is back home I guess.

I am BRAND NEW to this site, and this life. Unfortunately my man of 7 months got remanded from his parole (only had 1 month left to freedom), and now has 9 months to do in PA. He just got there a few days ago from NY, and I have not received a phone call other than a quick "I'm in PA" from an office while on speaker phone. He said he was waiting for a bed, and therefore had no access to phones.

I would appreciate any info that could be offered about this process, how long it may take, what this particular facility is like (I have NEVER been to visit anyone in prison before - so have no idea what to expect).

Are there any sites specific to each facility? Can I get specific info ahead of time about proceedures on visiting, things I can/can't send, what the phone situation is - how many minutes per number called, what's the cost, what are the times the phones are ON for them to call.

God I miss him so much already, and my mind spins with what things are like for him while he's there. I don't like being out of touch with him for so many days... I begin to worry about his safety. I know he's in a low security environment, but it's still not a vacation! Anything could happen, and that's what scares me.

My heart breaks for all of you who are facing YEARS - I have a few months, and it seems like an eternity to me.

Thank you for listening! I look forward to as much info as you all have about "Allenwood Low"

Need to sleep - my work deadlines don't stop - and I guess that's a good thing!!

:)

Check out the federal prison forum where there is info. on Allenwood specifically and about federal prisons in general. Also, going to the Fed. Bureau of Prisons website may also provide you with information.

...And, wecome to PTO!!!

Thank you again Elaine, but I was hoping for some more detailed info about visiting, what the facility is like. Not so concerned about where to stay since I will either stay with family in PA, or just come back to CT after my visit since it's not too far (it will be a long day, but not unreasonable in comparrison to other people's situations!)

I've been looking to see if I could ger a copy of the handbook on-line somewhere. I have seen a version available for purchase - not sure if each security level has their own version - and was also hoping to find something that may be in a PDF format on line, rather than buying the book which I think was over $50.

I'll keep looking, or I'll see if Allenwood Low will fax something over to me about what items can be brough to inmates, what can and can't be sent through the mail... stuff like that.

Thanks for the help!

is he in the camp or in the level one?

Hi Tee...

He is at the Allenwood Low Security - so I would guess Level 1(?). I just got in the visiting list and went to see him for the first time about 3 weeks ago. It's a pretty nice facility all considering. The people working there were all very helpful, and polite - to a first-timer like me. Holidays are tough, but I consider myself lucky, and I'm very grateful that he will be out by the summer!

It's a 4hr trip there from CT (going a little faster than the speed limit!), and exhausting after sitting in a hard plastic chair a little more than 6 hours, but it's better than not seeing him at all. and it's nice tp be able to have LONG conversations in person, rather than the limited phone conversations.

Peace...
