View Full Version : Library questions
trailrider731 10-29-2007, 06:08 AM hay could anyone tell me if each unit at Parchman has a library or how does one access the General Library, does it exist? and what is the limit on books when you have been transferred to Parchman??? My son has been transferred there, possibly temporary, and they took some of his books. MOST of them were what i call "learning books" i ordered for him a few new novels ,, ALL were allowed at MCCF. I think they told him after the fact, he could have requested them to be sent home. NOW what do they do with books they take from the inmates??????? One guard remark,,,, I wouldn't mind having these.

Mrs.Glamma 10-29-2007, 06:58 AM I would have to go back through some very old letters but I THINK Parchman had same system as SMCI where they have a list of book they can order from the facility library, up to 3 (maybe 2) I believe at a time. At SMCI there is a library in each area I believe as mention was made of better selection at current.
I am sorry his books were not sent to "property to be sent home.
trailrider731 10-29-2007, 07:03 AM hay thanx for the quick response, i was wondering because he has been there for three weeks now with no access to the library apparently. I'm not too much bothered by the books not coming home if they are donated to the library, it bothers me if they went home with a guard and were confiscated because of that. I'm wondering if they have a limit as to the books they "own"?
thanx again,

My friend who was moved from WCCF in July to Parchman was limited to just keeping 10 of his books. He had a lot and was able to get some of the other guys to claim some of his books and keep them for him. Don't know how much they're inforcing the 10 book limit now that the guys are settled at Parchman.
trailrider731 10-29-2007, 12:55 PM thanx Dulce, I suspect my son was over the limit then, and if he had known, he would have had some of the others transferred at the same time, claim some of them, they also took his long johns, and keep saying they might issue some. I expect the 10 book limit is mostly incoming inmates???? I've always told him of course I understand if he can't keep them all, just share, which he does a good bit anyway.
GOD BLESS,
Mrs.Glamma 10-29-2007, 07:09 PM Trailrider, the limit is for all inmates.
Jonathan 11-02-2007, 02:10 AM General Central Library with a limit of 3 books out at a time and no gurantee you will get any of them.
Unit 32 only gets to order once every other month.
A custody weekly
B custody bi monthly
You are allowed three books mailed to you at a time, and 10 on you at a time. You can give other inmates books of yours to read and pass around the zone after you finish ones bought for you.
Books confiscated for maxed limit go into the inmates personal property and can be accessed upon going home, OR can be sent home at your expense.
