My name is Lynn; I live in Boise, Id. and my family is another statistic in the insane Drug Laws.
My whole world and that of our children fell apart this past June 2, 2003 when my husband was sent to prison for a fixed 3 Yr. Sent. on a Non-Violent ,1st offense of any kind Drug charge.
Myself and a very kind woman I met while visiting, who's son is also in prison on a Mandatory Minimum Sent, are forming a chapter of Families Against Mandatory Minimums in Idaho.
I realized that if anything in my families, and those of others facing this same horrible injustice was to get any better, I would need to quit feeling sorry for myself and do something about it..
We had our 1st get together at a local park tonight and if anyone is interested feel free to PM to get details

Thankyou for allowing me to share this info with you all and I hope everyone has a good upcoming week :)

Have you been in touch with Kelly Winberg? She is the founder of Friends and Familys of Idaho Inmates. I have a web address if you want it. Her name is VERY known in the Idaho system and the board doesn't like hearing her name. Her son was in/still is in prison.

My husband also received a "minimum mandatory" sentence as a non-violent offender. As jreed says, still not as long as some, but ridiculous still. Especially when the S.A. told me he would prefer to send him to an intense drug treatment center where he could receive real help (alcohol is his problem), but that FL didn't offer anything like that. Secondly, he would've preferred to sentence him to what he scored out, but mandatory sentences wouldn't allow him to do that. He wasn't very happy about that and I don't think he's alone in that feeling. Mandatory sentencing takes away their ability to make "deals", thus making their job more difficult. This particular S.A. is known for being a "hard a__", so I tend to believe what he told me. There may be hope to change this particular "law" because we're not the only ones against it. May not help those of us that are already in the position, but it may help someone else down the line. At least that's my hope.

My guy has been in federal prison for seven years. He is serving a life sentence for conspiracy to sell crack cocaine. It is a very harsh and insane sentence.
