A friend at Solano told me they just got a memo stating no new orders for TVs will be accepted. Has anyone else heard this?

I have not heard about that. I will ask my boyfriend the next time he calls. If that is true, that is beyond ridiculous!!! One day the CO's decided to search my boyfriends cell. He and his cellie were told that they could only have two "applicances." My boyfriend kept his fan and typewriter. The CO's took his TV and "accidently" drop it. Yeah right!!! So now what happens when the CO's "accidently" drop another inmate's TV, and they are not taking no new orders for TV's? To me that sounds like they had nothing better to do with their time, so someone had the bright idea to write that memo. I am curious now to find out if that is true.

Me too. I was going to get one for my son for his birthday, but will have to wait and see.

That only applies to Level 2 inmates at Solano and it is true. Much discussion has been going on regarding this in the Solano Yahoo Group. Any L2 inmates who currently have TV's can keep them. No new TV's can be ordered and once the ones that men have no break or wear out - that's it.

Here's what the memo says:

The subject of the Memo is Televisions in Level II housing.

Current living conditions at the California State Prison- Solano (SoL), Level II (Facility III and IV), necessitate a restriction on televisions. A major factor for this change are the current living conditions in the 270-design buildings(stand-alone metal housing units), and the gymnasium. These structures have very few electrical outlets, and as such the inmate population accommodate themselves by using unauthorized extension cords, of which many are routed throughout the housing units. The overall safety and security of the institution is also compromised due to contraband items manufactured from metal stock, as well as other items fashioned into make-shift antennas. Further, the narrow six cubic feet lockers are unable to safely contain the televisions. For these reasons the following changes are in effect immediately: All newly arriving inmates housed on Level II will no longer be permitted to possess a television. Arriving inmates are those who are transferring from another CDCR institution, or form SOL Level III (Facility I and III). SOL inmates currently housed on Level II who already own a television will be permitted to maintain possession of the television. No new purchases of televisions will be allowed for inmates on either facility on Level II. A Level II inmate who is placed in Administrative Segregation and as a result of said placement is issued and found guilty of a Serious Rules Violation Report (CDC-115), for any reason, will be required dispose of his television per DOM section 54030.12.2.This will also be the process for an inmate who is deemed a program failure and placed on 'C" status. A Level II inmate whose television is inoperable will not be allowed to Have it repaired or replaced. This process will allow existing televisions on Level II to be removed through attrition. This policy will be strictly enforced. To mitigate the impact of this course of action, the Plant Operations Department will be upgrading the
community televisions in these buildings for viewing by the inmate population, as funds become available.

This Memo was signed by Warden Sisto. and cc: to Anthony P. Kane, Associate Director (GP/Level II/III, CCF(male), Camps (male), DAI

Thanks for the clarification. My son is level 3, but in the gym right now. He can't have one there either.
