Greetings to my PTO pals! :)

My question for the Arkansas group is this: "When someone goes away to prison, do you know when their time actually STARTS counting?"

What I mean by this is, the  of my life will be going away in a week or so to serve 8 months. :shake: From what I understand, first he will be going to the County jail for a little while and then Diagnostics and then somwhere else (I guess to be determined in Diagnostics). Does his time start "counting" towards his sentence of 8 months right when he first turns him self in :hmm: or do his days start counting towards his sentence once he ends up in the prison Diagnostics chooses for him?

Please help in answering my question. Thank you all...

His time will start counting when he turns himself in. Any time he serves in the county will count towards the 8 months even if it is only 1 day. And as soon as he gets to his unit (after diagnostics) he can get a time sheet that will show all the days that he has served towards his sentence. If you have anymore questions, just IM me..my man JUST went through this crap!!

hotchick is almost correct. The time you spend in the county jail either before or after your conviction can cout on the front or back of your sentence. Jail credit is the time you spend before your conviction after that you are a class IV inmated doing day for day. When youj reach diagnostics you are the a class II inmate. The fine folks who figure time cards can either figure your start date as the day you turn yourself in or the day you get to diagnostics. It is entirely up to them. ChrisnClay who is also on the forum can speak to this as well her husband worked in intake for a few years. Just know this they will do it their way and their way is messed up and very hard to figure out.

my son told me that if he writes to the judge, requesting the time he spent in county go to the front or back of his sentence than it will be counted. if he does not write it won't come off either end of his sentence. i don't know if this is true. he's in pope county waiting to go to pine bluff.

I think it will automatically go toward his sentence. At least it did for my son. And he did not write to the judge. I think it was at ADC's discretion.
Each day counts as one day off his sentence if he was convicted under the 70% law as my son was and I think from what I have gathered your son maybe was too. They do not earn good time under the 70% law. Course I could be wrong and this might not be the case for your son.

My son spent 3 months in the county jail before going to Pine Bluff. Things got much better once he got there. Jail was the worse. He was not in PC but being a big guy, he didn't have alot of trouble but there were close calls. He has over one year of his time served and has not had any serious trouble. We are so blessed.
