View Full Version : C-76??? How Is It There???? Pgril07 10-19-2007, 09:51 PM Hey does anyone have any info on this building? Is it bad, good, HORRIBLE? Im concerned about the safety OF THE INMATES and visiting there? Any info would REEEEALLY HELP!! :) Thanks in advance. nimuay 10-29-2007, 10:18 PM I've never dealt with Rikers, but I can tell you that its reputation has improved greatly over the past few years. Take a deep breath. . . good luck! chonnie2383 10-30-2007, 12:59 PM Nimuy is right it really has improved. I have not been to The Island in awhile, but when my husband was there he was in ARDC (c-76) for awhile. It was cool as far as visits go. As far as the inmates he said they were very lax. chichi8607 11-01-2007, 08:26 PM i jus found out dat my hubbyz in c-76... he says its aite and dat ppl aint 2 crazy there so far so i dnt think u gotta wrry 2 much:o i dnt kno bout visiting i still havent been there.. but hey if u need company psnvyd 12-03-2007, 01:54 AM I actually was at rikers island a little more than 3 weeks ago visiting a family member in C-95 (amkc) and that was the first time i was back at rikers island since 2001.....so in 6years i would say rikers island isnt the best place on earth but it is much much better than what it used to be 6 years - 9 years ago......MUCH BETTER!!! jenschop 03-15-2008, 08:36 PM My boyfriend is at C-76. He's been there for about 3 and a half months. Read my post titled, "Evil Ion Scanners" it talks about the psocess once you get there. The CO's are really not too nice at all. They kind of treat you like you're the criminal. But don't let that discourage you. As far as the safety there, it's pretty lax from what my boyfriend tells me. As long as you keep to yourself and do what you have to do, you'll be ok. Good Luck! Let me know if you have any questions, I'll answer them best I can. dotties76 04-03-2008, 09:17 AM Hi there My boyfriend has been in C-76 since the beginning of February. Its not too bad as far as inmate treatment. Of course, you always have some CO's on a power trip who are not as respectful as others, but for the most part its not too bad. As far as visiting, I visit twice a week. I have found the CO's to be pretty cool. If you are nice and respectful to them, they treat you the same. You have to figure they deal with alot of bullshit every day (I certainly see alot of it) and they come off as mean and intimidating at first, but if you follow their directions, and if you are nice to them, they will warm up to you. When do you visit? marie1083 05-22-2008, 09:44 AM Well it was my 1st visit at C76,EMTC,yesterday,and the facility was alot cleaner lookin,a little more stricter, and the visit at the gym isnt so bad ,except ,its not like C73 where your more closer and you could hold hands, kiss,be basically be awhole lot closer..C76 they dont mind if you touch and kiss , but the little @$$ table and them chairs separate you and its a little uncomfortable since you have to lean forward to hold hands...But overall its not so bad... roundtheway 06-12-2008, 03:17 PM C76 or EMTC is the building for inmates to finish their sentences if they have 1 year or less to serve. The word on Rikers Island is that C76 is a cake walk for inmates. Everyone there has something to lose. The inmates work all day because they are "state property". They have to work. So they eat sleep and work. There is no real time to get into trouble. A ticket in C76 will get your good time taken away and you may even go to the bing. Who wants to do that when you have like 2 months left. There is danger in all the facilities but for the most part, officers with 15+ years on the job work here because the danger level is very low compared to the other Rikers Island jails. And yes, they are on a power trip. They are your regular run of the mill disgruntled workers. Rikers has nothing to do with it. They would be miserable at the bank! Love2dasky 09-18-2008, 05:21 PM How is the visits on EMTC? what happens if i go to see him and he is out to work? how does that work? do i have to notify any1 b4 i get therE?help Love2dasky 09-18-2008, 07:33 PM Can the inmates take any courses classes? etc in emtc c76? help ... Love2dasky 09-18-2008, 10:47 PM i heard they get like $6 put into their account when they work how true is this? or is it more less? or nothing? thanks. nyc4life 10-14-2008, 11:55 PM My hubby is there. I will post info as I get it. He can't have any visits til next week though so I have to wait :blah: nyc4life 10-18-2008, 02:03 AM My hubby tells me that they can only receive white articles of clothing except for underwear which can be any color. You can send white long johns and a long sleeve thermal shirt too. These rules may vary depending on what part of the building your loved one is in though so it's best to wait till they have been placed. They will only accept Reebok Classics and you can only wear sneakers if you have a work assignment. Does anybody know what happens to the stuff they don't accept? Will Rikers ship it back? MsNY 10-21-2008, 12:20 PM Hi my husband just got sentenced and sent to C-76 CIFM, i wanted to know how many times can he get visits a week? and when does the week begin Sunday-saturday? Also they never gave him credit for the time served that he did before he got out on bail? i called to get it fixed and they said it will be taken care of which i'm sure it won't so how do i go about fixing this problem? i would appreciate anyones advise.....:confused: nyc4life 10-21-2008, 01:26 PM If he is sentenced then it's only 2 visits per week and 2 visitors per visit. The week begins Sunday but call to confirm. As far as crediting the time you have to talk to his attorney first. I'm not sure who you ask if the attorney can't help you. blaze. 11-15-2008, 07:57 PM just out of curiosity; when they are working...what exactly are they doing? cleaning? P11101 12-24-2008, 06:45 PM just out of curiosity; when they are working...what exactly are they doing? cleaning? there are various jobs, usually depending on how long you will be in the building. during my last 8 month skid bid, i was on a construction crew but we mainly worked in the old hdm building removing copper pipes and wires which i believe the COs actually took for themselves. other dudes i remember worked in the kitchen, in the clean up crews and also in gardening landscaping... if your in for short time, or a pain in the ass to the staff or just got unlucky, you would be a porter mopping floors. the best job i had was on the construction crew. i even talked my way into getting outside food from the COs, cigarettes (i dont smoke but i sure ran that house when i came back from work) and even on one occassion a 6 pack of very warm budweiser we found from a staff christmas party. anonymousD 12-31-2008, 05:54 AM I MUST SAY... THIS WEBSITE REALLY HELP ME OUT ALOT! I WAS SOO CONFUSED ABOUT GOIN 2 RIKERS N C-76 I HAD HEARD SO MANY HORROR STORIES ABOUT IT I CHANGED MY MIND SEVERAL TIMES B4 I ACTUALLY WENT... READING ALL THE OTHER POSTS AND SEEING THE ANSWERS TO ALL MY QUESTIONS WAS VERY RELIEVING IM SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS SITE! I WENT TO RIKERS PREPARED 2 DUKE IT OUT IN THERE (LOL) BUT I HAVE BEEN THERE ABOUT 5 OR 6 TIMES NOW AND I HAVENT HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE YET! I HAVENT BEEN CAUGHT BY THE RUSH OR RUDENESS OR ALL DAY WAITS. I MAKE SURE I GET THERE @ 8 AND IM OUT BY 11/11:30 AND EVERYONE IS ALWAYS NICE TO ME (I GUESS BEING THAT ITS EARLY). ONE TIME EVEN GOIN TO EMTC I WAS THE ONLY PERSON ON THE BUS AND ANOTHER TIME IT WAS ONLY FOUR OF US... I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM AT ALL GOING THERE... SO FAR SO GOOD! THANKS EVERYONE! hosea 02-03-2009, 01:25 PM hi my brother has been in CIFM, now called EMTC for a week. He keeps getting moved around. i went to visit him last weekend. The visiting conditions are better than I had expected. Just be sure to get there early and don't bring too much with you. honey86 10-22-2009, 10:52 AM I can honestly tell you all that cifm c-76 isn't as crazy a place as some people may try to make it out to be. Prison is prison however, so there will be some problems. I am the girlfriend of a prisoner serving time at emtc-eric m taylor center. My man fills me in daily on the goings on of the center because he knows I worry. Essentially that particular housing unit avoids all confrontation possible between themselves and c.o.s. The majority of the guys there are on the same page- all trying to hurry up and get the hell home. As far as visits are concerned-i have been 3 times already and all of them have been pleasant. I go on the weekend either saturday or a sunday very early in the morning. The earlier, the better I tell you because registration is smoother, and there isn't a long wait. If you are visiting your man there, I advise you not to bring anythingasides from your I'd, metrocard, pen, and house keys. Phones, ipods, etc you must lock up outside of the facility, and ALL jewlery must be taken off. That includes earrings, bracelets, nose rings, necklaces, everything! I'm telling you this speeds up the process like you wouldn't believe! You are able to touch your man kiss him (we tongue) there hasn't been a problem with this, hold hands, etc. The visiting area is an old basketball gym with dozens of multicolored chairs and tables set up for you all to sit across from one another. Like I said, the earlier the better because it starts getting packed later on with more wives, kids, babymammas, and loved ones-and then ur visit gets cut a little shorter to accommodate everyone else. There is this one particular skinny black c.o. There who mouths off to any visitor she can. I avoif her as much as possible-or at least am very pleasant when I see her. So far during my 3 times there, I've seen her make two girls cry, one lose her visit, and another re-do her entire paperwork. Hope this was helpful. I was at first terrified to visit my boo, but I can honestly say its a piece of cake. you will have to pull ur I.d. Out at least 5 times so make sure you have one! Inmate Services 10-27-2009, 04:23 PM Hi my husband just got sentenced and sent to C-76 CIFM, i wanted to know how many times can he get visits a week? and when does the week begin Sunday-saturday? Also they never gave him credit for the time served that he did before he got out on bail? i called to get it fixed and they said it will be taken care of which i'm sure it won't so how do i go about fixing this problem? i would appreciate anyones advise.....:confused: Last I remember, it goes by the first letter in his last name. The week starts Wednesdays. There are no visits on Mondays and Tuesdays. So for example, Wednesday might be a visiting day for inmates whose last names begin with letters A-L. Thursday would be M-Z. Friday is always A-Z. Tough to visit those days. Big crowds. Saturday would again be A-L and Sunday would be M-Z. The visiting hours are also different on different days. Some days might be 7a-2p and others can be 2p-9p. Something like that. Definately check with the facility before heading out. Hope this helps... |
