My honey is being transferred here tomm...How diffrent is this from North Kern State Prison?.....I am glad he is over his reception since now i get to talk to him on the phone!!!

where is soledad prison? and will i have to fill out a new visiting form now that he is in soledad? and how can i get his address?thank you

SVSP and Soledad CTF are located near Salinas CA. The visiting intake begins between 8:15 -8:30 but passes are issued at 6:30-7am. Many visitors come very easrly and its not unheard of to get in line off grounds the day before. There are always those of us who sleep in our cars over night and still don't get in until 9am. SVSP has issues with its employees which make it hard on us since we are tired, anxious and not willing to deal with the BS they dish out. Daily change are made to dress code and their computers are always going down which delays the processing even further. We stay in the main parking lot until passes are called for 20 at a time.

Hello everyone. My Fiancee first got to SVSP in September of last year. I've never visited anyone there so I am not familiar with that prisona t all but I've been hearing some very bad things about SVSP. My fiancee has been on lockdwn ever since he has gotten there. He hasn't been able to call home no mare than 2 times since he has been there. We write alot to eachother but I would love to get a phone call. Is that normal over there or what? Plus they have really been giving me a hard time about getting approved to go visit. And everytime I call up there, they are very rude. Is that normal there as well? Just wondering because I'm a bit worried about him since he will be there for a good while. We are supposed to be getting married over there as well but my dissaproval of visitation is holding us up. I've heard some really good things about this site and am very glad to know that this type of site is around. I was wondering if anyone had any info that they can share with me, like I said I'm very worried about him since he has been on lockdown for so long. Thank you.

Hello and welcome! As for what your fiance is telling you, that is just a rumor. There is a chance that the federal government could take over the CA prison system in the future, but no one knows for sure at this point in time. If so, it would be the federal courts, and not the FBI. There also has not been any new legislation passed that would reduce sentences. Again, there is a chance all of this will happen--the federal courts have already taken over some elements of the CA prison system (e.g. medical), and there are 3 federal judges very involved right now. One of the judges has given a June deadline for the state to have a plan in place for reducing overcrowding, but even that's not a guarantee of anything.

There are so many rumors at all times in prison, and even more so lately about federal takeovers and early releases. WHile many of us think a federal takeover would be a positive move, it's anyone's guess at this point.

Hello ladies, I'm 23 years old and I live in WI. I have been viewing your fourms for a short while and u all seem so nice and helpful. I have kinda a weird situation on my hands and would like your guys' imput.
I have been corresponding with a man from SVSP for a little over 2 months. I found him on a pen pal site. I never really inteded on actually writing anyone I was just browsing the net, but when I saw his pic it was like I was drawn to him. Not because of his looks...but cuz of the look in his eye.....a look if innocence, and a look of pain. So I thought it would be an admireble thing to write him. In his first letter to me he told me he was convicted of attempted murder, but that there was no evidence recovered from the seen, and that the victim testified on his behalf @ the trial saying that when he(the victim) was in the hospital and gave his statement to the police that he was high off all the medication and that he had never seen my friend a day in his life up until that day in court. So basically my friend was convicted because he was a "validated gang member", and the state argued that these are things gang members do and it's their responsibility to get people like him off the srteets. Is this even possible??? I know laws have to be very diffrent in Cali than from Milwaukee, but this dosen't seem right. How could a man sit in prison for 7 years just because he's in a gang? Am I to assume he is lying, or holding something back?Or have u guys heard of other cases' such as this?
I'm very confused to say the least. I'm really beginning to feel a connection with this man, I think about him often, and find myself writing him a lot. I even find myself planning to come and visit him. My sister is in law school @ Marquette University and I want to help him. I can't talk to any of my friends about him because 1. I have a b/f I live with, and 2. they would think I WAS CRAZY! :confused: :confused: :confused: Any thoughts, comments, advice???

CTF is an okay place--there are better, and there are worse. If you were already approved to visit at Delano then your approval should carry over to CTF.

I'm not sure of the best way to get to CTF from Lancaster, but if you look on a map CTF is in the city of Soledad right on the 101 freeway--Soledad is just south of Salinas, which is a fairly large city. There are a lot of people from southern CA here on PTO who visit in Soledad, so they can probably help you out with the best directions.

When someone first gets to CTF (or any prison, for that matter) they go through a brief orientation before they are permanently housed. He will not be able to make phone calls during this time, but it should only last a week or two. Once he is permanently housed he will be able to call you. This is assuming he is not locked down for some other reason, like existing lockdowns at the prison. You may need to set up an account with the company that runs the prison phones (used to be MCI, but is switching to a new company this month); they will contact you if he tries to call and you need an account first.

To get to CTF from Lancaster, you take the 5 north. I'm not sure the highway that you take from Lancaster to the 5. Take the 5 north to the 46 highway. Take it west. Drive very carefully, it is a dangerous road. I crashed on it 2 weeks ago. It is sixty something miles to Paso Robles. Then take the 101 north to the prison. It is also sixty something miles. There is a big sign that says Correctional Facility. Welcome. If you need any further info don't hesitate to ask.

It's not easy, you have to take it one day at a time. CTF is MUCH better then SVSP. Don't worry you'll be an old pro at this in no time. lol

My understanding is that inmates serving 50% time get that increased at fire camp, and only serve 35%. But that inmates serving 80% don't get any extra time off at fire camp. I'm pretty sure this is right, but I'm not 100% positive, so if anyone else knows for sure please let us know!

I am wishing you all a Happy and Blessed Birthday. I am new here and in Love with a Lifer. We are in California, and he is serving a 78 to life under the three strikes law. Our case was recently accepted by a prisoners rights attorney out of S.F., and we are hoping to one day get a date. His life is well worth the money we will be charged to be represented. I have developed a website with our story, I guess you have to have so many posts to be able to put it on a thread. Soon I will be able.
