My husband is on his wasy to Petersburg Low - I am in Savannah GA and have no idea where the institution is located. Can anyone give me directions from I-95. I have looked everywhere and have no idea.
Also, I need to know for peace of mind what Petersburg is like. He was at Butner previously and when released the PO didn't like his attitude and drummed up charges for revocation - judge said 18 months.
Thanks to anybody who answers.

My friend is in the Petersburg Med. facility. That one does not seem too bad. I think there are some people on here who have loved ones in the low. You might want to check out the federal form. If I can help let me know!

Welcome Apples777!!!
My loved one is also there and to keep it real, these people are a trip. You have to be on point going to ol' Petersburg Med which is to some one of the worst run federal prisons. Dress conservatively, nothing tight or see through or without sleeves or anything Khaki/beige colored (same as the inmates). Honestly, I keep a pair of sweats and a tee-shirt in the car for backup. You can't bring your purse/wallet inside, just a maximum amount of $40 dollars in a plastic baggie for the vending machines. No flipflops, shorts or skirts above the knee. They look for reasons to turn you away, so you just got to be prepared. You have to pass going through the metal detector so don't wear a bra with UNDERWIRE, it gets you everytime (might want to bring a sports bra, until you know which bras don't go off). No bobby pins or headbands in your hair either. Also you may be picked to go through the drug detection machine ordeal where they will give you a big stridex looking pad to rub up and down your clothes to be analyzed for the presence of drugs on your hands, clothing, and inside your pant pockets. If this machine goes off you will be denied entrance into the prison. You get two tries and then you will be asked to leave and can't return until 48 hours, if you come back and it goes off again you are banned for 30 days...and so on and so forth.
Many of us wear clothes fresh out of the wash (if you normally keep cash in your pants), and after we sign in we go and wash our hands, just to make sure any money residue has been removed. The machine is extemely faulty, many false positives but they use this as another ploy to make visitation difficult.
I'm not trying to scare you but I have dealing with these folks for almost 2 years. I've seen the new people come in and not know what to do, it's frustrating and some of the CO's won't tell you what's up until your holding up the line, you'll spend alot of time trying to figure out what's wrong and in the end waste your visitation time.
You will get to know who is who going there and who to watch out for. The ladies all have their stories :-). I just want you to be prepared, if your prepared then it won't be so bad.
Take care!
MJ
Ps. Visitation is Monday, Thursday and Friday from 5pm to 9pm and either a Saturday or Sunday depending on his inmate number from 8am to 3pm.
They get 10 visitation points a month. 1 point for a weekday visit and 3 points for a weekend visit.
