Hello, I'm trying to get directions to Luther Unit, in Navasota Tx., My son was transfered there since last week from Beto. The directions on Yahoo are very confusing, if some could please help. I'm going there to see him, I'll be coming from San Antonio. Thanks Mercedes

It looks to be a little more than halfway to Navasota from Hempstead (12 mi?) just outside of a little place called Courtney. If you are coming north from Hempstead on Highway 6 you could exit and go west at either CR324 or a little later at FM2 and you should have no trouble spotting the unit. From CR (county road) 324 it will be on your left. If you come in from FM2 it should be dead ahead when you reach its intersection with CR324 where the drive up to the unit looks to be.

Thank you, Robinsman. I'm still confused though. What road do I take to get to Hempstead? Like a major highway, such as I10? Any other info would be appriecated. Mercedes

Oh, geez. I was afraid that was the part you were wondering about. There isn't like just one good way to get there from San Antonio. It takes puting a number of roads together. I guess the most straightforward would be to go to Brookshire and then go north on Texas 359 (exit to US 90 to hit 359) until you hit 290 just east of Hempstead. Take that back west a bit until you hit Highway 6 and then take that north. That is not the shortest way but it involves the fewest number of road changes. After Brookshire it looks like Pattison is about the biggest little town that you will have to navigate (5 or 6 blocks) and 359 does a right hand turn just the other side of town. Miss it and you'll end up on FM1458 continuing back west. Also, as you near Hempstead, 359 crosses business 290 first so don't take that. Go on the the main freeway to not have to drive through Hempstead. Otherwise it looks to be just whole lot of nothin' to drive through but, then again, I haven't driven it. But it'll be ok to come back and blame me if you go that way and it sucks out loud. I'm used to it.

Thank you, Both for your replies. I tried google but for some reason it does not recognize the address that I have for Luther unit. I will go ahead and buy a map of Texas. They sure don't make it easy to find. Robinsman, No worries, thank you for your time and effort. Later Mercedes

No sweat. I was looking at google when I was checking on directions and the Luther drive address did not come up for me, either. But with the description of "10 miles southwest of Navasota off Highway 6 on FM2" I used the hybrid of the map and aerial photo and simply scrolled down to HWY6@FM2 looking for something that looked like a prison which is VERY easy to spot and there it is.
Try this. Go to Google maps and search for "residence drive, courtney, texas". Once it gets there click on the hybrid button (top right corner) to overlay the photo and you will see the unit directly below where it is pointing to residence drive. The drive to the unit is where FM 2 and CR-324 join.

Thanks again, Robinsman. I think I'll be able to find it now. Mercedes
