Any helpful information would be extremely appreciated. thanks paul robbreid 10-05-2007, 03:22 PM Beaver Creek is a camp in the heart of cottage country. It is low low low security and for prison, it doesn't get much better than this. It is located at the south end of Muskoka Airport, and was a training facility for the Dutch Air Force during World War II. There are less than 200 inmates, in fact usually aroung 140. It is for inmates who have served most of their lengthy sentence, who are deemed low security, of for low risk, short term offenders. There are no cells, just apartments, and bedrooms, all single rooms, and the inmate has his own keys for his apartment, and his bedroom. Food is purchased from a grocery store, and inmates prepare their own meals. Inmates can stay up all night, or go to bed whenever they want. There is also very few staff, and no fence what-so-ever. If you have any specific questions, just ask. plabute 10-06-2007, 06:33 AM i think i m headed there. I was in dui accident where i hit a pedestrian. I think I have to go to millhaven first. If there's anything else you think I should know please let me know. Any preparation I can do that would help me would also be helpful. eg... bringing something. calling cards and anything else that would be helpful. thanks again. paul plabute 10-06-2007, 06:38 AM more info. My lawyer has recommended that I agree to 2 years+1day. in your opinion is this wise. My lawyer said i would problably be looking at 18 months provincial. Do you think i'm making the right decision. I ve also heard parole is granted at 6 months. where provincial is at 2 thirds. is this correct. thank you robbreid 10-07-2007, 04:22 AM As your address is in the USA, are you an American, dual citizen, or Canadian??? Provincial time, which would be a sentence of less than two years, is pretty much dorm living with a bunch of little kids. Federal time, is a cake walk, it doesn't get better than this, especially if you are serving a minimum amount of time. Your sentence only begins the day you are sentenced, depending where in Ontario your court date is, you'll be trasferred to the local pretrial centre, then within a week, or sooner, you'll be transferred to Mihaven, the reception centre for all of Ontario. You'll spend 8-10 weeks at Milhaven, and be shipped to camp. THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!! At the present time, DUI is a very serious conviction in Ontario. There was a time it was a JOKE. I know many people who get shipped to low medium facilities, (a camp with a fence around it), and have a hard time getting early release. I can tell you 100% that they are going to recommend a drug/alchol program for you. The problem is you will not be in custody long enough to enter and complete the program for you day parole date. IMPORTANT;;;;; on arrival at your mother insitition, basically where you will serve your time, for example Beaver Creek. A parole officer will interview you within your first 3 days. They most likely will not be your actual parole officer, they just interview you. Think of them as a low life used car salesperson. Their JOB, though it should be illegal, is to get you to waive your parole dates, they will tell you, you will not complete your programs by your parole date. They will say, by waiving it, you can complete your program, then re-apply for parole, thereby almost guaranteed parole approval. What they are not telling you, when you arrive with a short sentence, there is a great amount of paperwork they must complete, submit, and have in the Federal Parole office, 30 days prior to your hearing. By waiving your parole, your waiving their workload. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE, EVER WAIVE YOUR PAROLE DATE, NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- With that said, as a first time offender, you most likely will go to camp. It is not 100 percent. In camp, there are no fences, you can easily obtain alcohol, guys buy it from the street, and other inmates make it. So you will be considered a high risk in the area of re-offending as a drunk driver. That means you are a risk in a camp. If you have family, a job, and a fairly normal law abiding life, most likely camp. If your family is in crisis, you have no employment, and an unstable life, you probably won't go to camp. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- As for parole, a first time offender generally serves a minimum or 1/6 of the sentence or 6 months, which ever is greater. So on two years, generally you are release to a halfway house, via a paper decision by the parole board. If you start your time in camp, then parole is for sure. The parole board however, have the option if holding a hearing. They hold hearings once a month at every Federal Institution. If you are not Canadian, that will certainly complicate the matter. You will be deported, but they can make you serve from 1/6 to 2/3 of your sentence. It will be up to the parole board. Early release, is generally for day-parole purposes, where you live in a halfway house, still considered to be a level one institution, for at least 6 months. Again, if you make it to camp right from the start, you are most likely to get the earliest release available. plabute 10-07-2007, 05:45 AM i'm canadian. How long does it take to complete this program.??? I haven't had a drink since my accident. I really don't think i need this program but it will obviously help with my release. What's millhaven like?. My lawyer told me 2 weeks approx. maybe 4. at millhaven. not 10 weeks. Your a great help. Anymore info would be appreciated. thanks again. paul dancinggal 10-07-2007, 10:26 AM For a provincial sentence, parole eligibility is still at the 1/3 mark with an early release date at the 2/3 mark. I have heard of cases where they ask for more time to bump them up to the 2 years plus a day so they can get into a federal facility rather than a provincial centre. Provincial facilities don't have the same amount of programs and jobs available which can make the time go by very slowly and not get you the help you might need. Good luck! plabute 10-08-2007, 05:49 AM i ve heard that in the provincial system guys waive their parole hearing at one third because it's uncommon to get it, or very hard, one or the other not sure. I just don't want to do more time than i have to. I was told that if i get 18 months provincial, I'll end up serving a year of reformatory time in the provincial system. Any response would be appreciated. thanks paul dancinggal 10-10-2007, 08:02 AM I haven't heard that but that doesn't mean much. This is my first time going through all this too. My guy is coming up for parole the beginning of December on a provincial sentence. I have an officer coming to the house to do an inspection and to talk to me tomorrow. I will add this onto the list of questions I have for her. plabute 10-10-2007, 09:56 AM how long has he been in. what was his sentence. Is he at 1 third or 2 thirds. Any other important information would be appreciated. thanks paul dancinggal 10-10-2007, 10:29 AM He got a 10 month sentence for driving under suspension and has been in since the end of August. December 2nd is his parole eligible date at the 1/3 point. From our little chat on the phone last week, the p.o. said she saw no reason why he shouldn't get paroled out but she has to come out to the house and verify everything. dancinggal 10-10-2007, 03:14 PM I got a call from the p.o. this afternoon. She rescheduled the home interview until next week. I have to call his lawyer tomorrow afternoon anyway so I will see what I can find out for you from him. plabute 10-10-2007, 06:36 PM i can't believe he would get 10 months for driving under suspension. keep me posted. thanks I really appreciate your information. shawnie79 01-02-2008, 07:41 PM Okay i have written in here before but my bf was going to millhaven at that point and I was clueless about everything ..but since then i have gathered a good graps of whats going on ..now my new question is does anyone know the exact address of beavercreek ...not the po box ..im trying to find hotels or motels close by so i can spend a weekend out in gravenhurst. i dont check this much so if someone could please email me at shawnie@hotmail.com and let me know PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ...just caption the email "beavercreek" so i dont think its junkmail ...please and thank you!!!! dalton99 01-04-2008, 10:33 AM It's 2000 Beaver creek drive. In future should anyone have any questions, regarding Beaver Creek, or Fenbrook, Gravenhurst Public Library have a Branch inside Fenbrook. The staff member who works in the Prison, works for the library, not the prison. They are generally very imformative and have lots of information. For those unaware, Beaver Creek and Fenbrook are side by side, and located on the south end of the runway at Muskoka Airport. Gravenhurst is 15 minutes away SE, and Muskoka is 15 minutes away north. If you download Google Earth for free, just punch in Muskoka Airport and you will see the institution.
