I once had a MAJOR problem with another website, after posting a pic of myself and my CHILD! And NO, it was not a site about prisons and such.

So, I made myself a rule NEVER again to post my photo on any website.

Are any others of you nervous about this? ANYONE out there can have access to your photo, not just members here.

(Hmmm... maybe I'm just too danged ugly to post a photo!)

As far as I know, there have been no abuses in regards to this but some people are nervous about posting pictures of themselves and their loved ones online and chose not to do so. I'm sure the "powers that be" would not be happy knowing about my relationship to this community but it isn't going to stop me. They can look at my mug all day.. ;)

Yeah, but maybe your mug is cuter than mine.

(But I bet I have a cuter bum!)

But seriously Dave, I once had a photo up with my son in the photo, and some madwoman in California started emailing HIM porn and such. She even convinced him to give out his home address, then sent him some "sex-related objects", which I FOUND in the mailbox! He was only 13 at the time!!!

I marched straight to the Police, and they said "California's not our jurisdiction, Ma'am!" So I marched home, and yanked the plug out of the wall, and told my son, "From now on you use library computers for the Internet!"

That was all 6 years ago, but I'm still nervous...

Love,
Mom

Menolly I agree w/you. I had posted my pic of my fiancee, but I felt really weird about it the whole time it was up. I asked David if he could take it down & he was kind enough to do so.
I haven't posted a pic of me here because I am a little afraid to. Any of the members of PTO that I have become friends w/I sent them a pic of me.

Maybe 1 day I will get up enough courage to post a pic of myself & my man, but right now I don't feel right doing so.

Whew, I'm not the only one paranoid.

I also agree with you about sending photos privately to people at PTO that you really have reason to trust. I've sent a couple of those out already...

But, I don't know if I'll ever post one publicly.

Once a Mom gets a wake up call like I got 6 years ago, the chill never leaves your spine!

I understand you TOTALLY there!! I had something similar to that happen to me about 4 years ago. So now I am really hesitant before I post a pic of me.
I was even hesitant at first to post my introduction on PTO thinking it IS public & for everyone who wanted to can view my experiences w/my man & about me. In reading the posts from all these wonderful people made me want to become a member now like 600 posts later from me...I am HOOKED...hee hee!!

Well DJ;

I'm so glad you're hooked!

I guess it was easier for Fed X to "hook " me, because, even though I may choose to hide my face, I simply CAN'T shut my mouth!

(Ask Him, He'll tellya!)

Oh and Dave... this brings up the point about posting group photos in get-togethers, such as in North Carolina, and Texas in March...

Thoughts anyone?

How about for those of us that don't want our pics posted online we have 1 set of group pics & such taken. For the others that don't mind have a second set taken to be posted.
Something tells me that there are going to be TONS of pics!!

Maybe???

I guess two "guidelines" might be in order.

A) Before every pic is snapped we clarify "This one is for putting up on the site" and those with reservations can choose to drop out, or duck a little behind someone else..

B) Before ANY photos get put onto the site, secure permission of everyone in the photo.

A 19 y.o. male in Modesto, CA has been arrested for trying to get a 13 y.o. girl to meet him off line. When he ask what her breast size was, she told her Mom and the police were called. The Modesto police has officers asigned to monitor local teen site's on the internet.

Appartently, just talking about having sex/sexual contact with an under aged online is a crime.

This was on our local ABCTV News a couple of nights ago, with his picture. It has also been reported that some "cops" will pose as under age like 15/16y.o. girls, make contact with an 18 or older guy, agree to meet some place and then arrest the guy for attemp, when he shows up.

Menolly, you should have noticfied the police in the California town. And went over the head of the officer you talked too. They should have helped, if nothing else, made the CA contact.

You just can't be too careful, I remember when I was over there reading about a young girl who was missing presumed dead and they thought she had arranged to meet some guy she'd met on some sex chat line. She was only about 14. The internet is the best and worse of everything.

Bray;

Yeah, maybe I should have pursued it further, through the California cops.

But you have to understand my psychology. I'm not one to sit still while people 5,000 miles away MIGHT solve a problem for me.

Besides it was so much more satisfying to storm into the house and YANK the cord out of the wall! We never heard from her again! (Dya' think it might have been the nasty email I sent her telling her to stay the **** away from my child?)

Oh Dear...And I was planning on posting a pic of Vic and I, this next week. He's still not to sure what PTO is all about, but he said that he would trust my judgement and it would be O.K. with him...Now I don't know what to do...Can I post it for, like say a week and then maybe Dave would be kind enough to take it off? I think I remember reading a post of his that these requests take a lot of time...and I wouldn't want to incovenience him in any way...
Feedback???

~~~much more satisfying to storm into the house and YANK the cord~~~
Oh my, do we have a WILD CAT amoung us? LMAO Your toooo much girl!! Love your expressions!
These underage trips are not just "MALES"! In fact, there are those my age (women) that run those "boy toys" in the front door and when done....out the back door! One after the other and it wouldn't surprise me, if some were under 18.
I think it is up to each individual if they feel cofortable posting pics or not- Pamela, I have posted pics but I know there are several others who have chosen not to.I think the problem Fed-X was talking about is when people post piccs and then remove them, the posts made commenting on the pics after don't make sense in the thread anymore. I respect each person's personal reference whether to post pics or not.
Pamela;
I'm sorry if I am making you nervous. I was checking if I was the only one just being paranoid. I was NOT trying to spread paranoia around!
My concern springs from the fact that I DO have a child.
I'm sure you can assess the amount of trust you and Vic feel, and "risk" you can afford to take. As far as I know, there's never been a problem from THIS site.
At the other site where I had the problem, I posted the photo, all delighted and proud... then promptly forgot it was there. I spent the next YEAR yakking away, never realizing how many personal details about my family that I was revealing bit by bit. (E.g: Child's birthdate, the town we lived in, the work I do, etc.)
A determined person with an agenda of their own, can put together a lot!
So, since then, I've lulled myself into a view that "As long as they don't know what I look like..."
And I pick and choose carefully who gets photos...
Bray;
Not a wild cat.
A MAMA BEAR, as is EVERY Mom!
As for my expressions, what can I say?
I call a spade a shovel!
